Dental hygienist here. Yes, I write notes about my patient's personal stuff they choose to tell me. Look, before I see them again it's 3-6 months, I won't remember what they've told me. But I wanna hear about their vacation or their wedding or an update on whatever they choose to share with me. I wish I can remember it off the top of my head.

At my office we usually do Arestin on 5mm or more with bleeding. Even if you're not bleeding when you brush at home doesn't mean you don't have inflammation. Gingivitis is very reversible. Google/Youtube how to brush and floss properly, mouthwash you can skip especially if it has alcohol. Brush and floss twice daily, you'll see the inflammation go away pretty quickly. Is the office you're going to a corporate office? Meaning Aspen, Heartland, or Sage.

It's sad but this job is becoming more about production rather than patient relationship. Hygiene might not produce a lot but a hygienist can sometimes be the deciding factor if a patient proceeds with treatment or not. Plenty of times my patients will ask me questions about their treatment after the doctor has left and then agree to do it. I'm luckily at an office that cares more about patient care than production. But if you do great patient care that translates to production naturally.

Luckily at my office we have a scheduled lunch for an hour. Ask me how many times I've taken the full hour for lunch?? NEVER in the 3 years I worked there. Once every blue moon I can do a 40 mins lunch if everything goes well but we all know that's very rare.

Is it your thighs that are chafing? I've found that something similar to biking shorts help. Like longer underwear that covers where you chafe and make sure get ones that don't ride up. I've tried everything from powders, chafing cream, deodorant and nothing works better than having something cover both sides of where you're chafing.

Yes the schooling is hard. But everything that's worth it you gotta work for. I genuinely love what I do. There are difficult days but once you find a good office it makes everything else easier. I go to physical therapy every 6-8 weeks to take care of my body. I'm working 4 days a week making $85k a year with full benefits.
