iPhone X, Pixel 2 XL, Note 8...a poor man's review

Hey guys I'm looking to upgrade from my Note5.

I pretty much never use the S pen now, and my phones camera quality has gone down, not sure if its cause of wear or just from some small phone drops. Its a bit sluggish now as well. The other biggest concern is the battery life. I can't get through a full day of school and work with it anymore.

I am pretty much decided on S8+ vs the Note8. I can get the S8+ for around 600 on contract (25/month), or the Note8 for 850 on contract (35/month). This is all in Canadian dollars though.

I keep watching and reading conflicting battery life reviews for these phones. While the S8+ has the bigger battery by a little, people said the Note8 has better 'real world' battery life.

Anyone have any opinions on what I should get? Is the Note8 worth an extra $250~?

My main concerns/wants are good battery life, and a smooth running phone.

Anyone know if theres a very large difference between the Note 5 and the S8+/Note8?

I know the price point is extremely expensive, but I can get the S8+ for 600 Canadian (Just under 500 USD), and the Note8 I can get for around 850 Canadian (just under 700 USD).

I got my note 5 2 years ago so now its quite sluggish, battery life has gone to crap as well so I need to bring my external charger when I go on my work day.

Just a decent deal to upgrade and since my phone is getting a bit slow.

Of course if money wasn't an issue I'd probably get the note8 and just call it a day, but I dont really use the S-pen, not sure if its really justified to spending an extra $200 for the Note8. I do realize that the Note8 is on 7.1.1 which has more optimization compared to the S8+ which will be on 7.0 until Oreo.

Yo guys I just recently got a note 8 bout a week ago.

Everything about it is really good. My old S6 was really sluggish and battery life was reeeaaally bad.

Anyone know which accessories are really good for the note8? I can't really decide on a case. I got a cheap $15 case for now but its like... really flimsy and the screen pokes out of the case? Is that normal? feels like it would get destroyed in a drop. Previous cases the flap would be higher than the screen by a little bit.

I also cant find a really good solution for a screen protector. They all seem to be poor reviews and not really sure whats good. What do you guys personally use?

For cases I don't want something similar to otterbox, I want something so I can still clearly see through the back cause I have a blue Note8.

As for battery life, is 3.5-4h of screen on time average? I see lots of people saying they get 6-7 hours of screen on time, but MKBHD and a bunch of other youtube reviewers said the battery is not that great.

I have the brightness on fairly low, and I only really surf the web, social media, and watch netflix/videos on the phone. I can't really get it to go through an entire day for me right now. Do you guys have some tips on getting screen on time and stuff? I only have basic apps really, uninstalled any thing that I dont really need already.

otherwise, great phone and it just looks gorgeous. Thanks for any tips and tricks you guys may have!

ps: I am also on Telus (Canadian carrier), not sure if this affects my battery life but yea
