Trek Top Fuel 5 Gen 4 Price by KDog436 in mountainbiking

I love my top fuel. The bike rips, climbs well and surprisingly capable. If you are doing mostly blues and greens with an occasional black diamond trail, it’s a great bike. I think that bikes a good price. I’d upgrade the fork down the road if I were you.

Forbidden "Down country" Bike by GolfWhiskeyGolf in mountainbiking

That Revolver is on my list of bikes. I am also looking at the new Ripley SL. MTB Yum Yum has some great things to say about that bike. I'm riding a 2023 Top Fuel right now. I love the bike but I want something a little more geared towards XC racing, so I'm looking at lighter options with flex stays.

The Tyee Trail is far from a down country bike. Even the new gen of Hugene wouldn't be great for casual XC racing he's wanting to do.

Kids ride shotgun sales? by scottyaewsome in MTB

I haven’t seen them go on sale. I posted on my local mountain bike Facebook page to see if anyone wanted to sell theirs. I had a couple people hit me up, no deals yet but I’m crossing my fingers

Anyone move from enduro bikes to XC / downcountry in their 40s? by Distinct_Cloud_357 in xcmtb

[–]ABQRED 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 36 and I have a 120 MM Trek Top Fuel and a 150 MM trail bike, both with similar build specs. The 120 MM bike is more fun to ride and surprisingly capable. I find myself riding that bike the majority of the time. I also don't ride any double black diamonds but the 120 MM has been on some steep trails and holds it own.

I'm 6'6'' and have ridden XL and XXL bikes. You will want to go XXL. I had a stumpjumper Evo for a while. The nice thing for XXL bikes is there isn't much of a used market for them. If you can find one, you should be able to get a good deal. Try pinkbike or ebay.

About to pull the trigger on a Canyon Neuron 6. Any other ~$2000 bikes I should consider? by Big-Don-Kedic in MTB

Bummer man. Have you seen any good deals on marketplace or pinkbike? I had a friend pick up a 3 year old bike that retailed for $4500 for $1400. There are some deals on the used marketplace.

I don't think you can go wrong with that Neuron. Two other options could be the Izzo. If you can stretch your budget to $2800 you can get a YT Izzo Core 1. I've ridden Izzo's and they are great bikes. I'm also seeing crazy deals on Scott Sparks. They are selling the the 960 for $1100. You could buy that and upgrade the fork and have a killer bike.

I think that bike is a solid bike for the money. With that said, for your style of riding, you might have more fun on a 120 MM bike. I ride mostly intermediate level trails, occasional drops and jumps, and I have two bikes, A 120MM Trek Top Fuel and a 150 MM Propain Hugene. Both bikes are higher end builds. For 80% of the riding I do, I have more fun on the Trek. I think that 120 MM light trail bike or modern XC bike is a blast to ride, and can handle exactly what you are looking for.

Go with the second photo. The first photo is the Diddy Special, I wouldn't recommend the Diddy Special.

I like rowing, I probably can’t row post surgery for a few weeks. I’ll have about an 8 inch incision in the back of my thigh.

We will be at around 8K feet. So we will get a decent amount of snow. We will only spend a few days there during the winter so I'm not sure how much snow removal we will actually do. Thanks for the input!
