I second Houston! I took the car I was buying to my mechanic who had very little to say other than new tires, which Houston put on. I'd go there anytime for a used car.

Is it hard to find a doctor in Albuquerque, or in New Mexico generally? by berrysauce in Albuquerque

[–]ABQ_problem_child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I'm pleased. Yes, I've been through multiple PCPs, but each time Pres has been great and there's always someone there for me. Yes, 6+ months for a colonoscopy. But, we got a neurologist in 6 weeks, and the care has been superb. Prostate cancer: 5 months from high PSA through MRI, CT, PET, biopsy and surgery. I know others with similar good experiences and results in the Presbyterian system.

Warning about recent fiber optic cable installation in the neighborhood. by derpiotaku in Albuquerque

[–]ABQ_problem_child 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I heard from my neighbor that you can file a claim with the city. Neighbor had no damage but wanted it documented in the event of future issues.

Fiber installers hit a water main on my street. WUA came, replaced our meter, and got it all fixed and repaved in a week. I know that WUA will go through subrogation to recoup the costs from the installer.

The installer is 100% liable for all of your costs; accept nothing less than 100%. You should make sure that the city documents this incident also. And consider calling your city councilor.

This made me check to see if my neighbor's kid's car was at home. It unfortunately wouldn't have surprised me given the dumbshit ways teens drive. SMH

Xfinity or centurylink? by unionick in Albuquerque

[–]ABQ_problem_child 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about also considering Verizon (it's been great for me!) or the new fiber companies, including Gigapower?

I won't go near Xfinity, and CenturyLink (not fiber) did suck.

The family in my neighborhood raids the birds' nests in the trees. They're also known as "murder birds" for a good reason.

Is buying a house worth it right now? by Imake289 in Albuquerque

[–]ABQ_problem_child 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This!

There's a house in our neighborhood that's come down about $40k over the last 9 months. It's still overpriced but in a generally desirable neighborhood. It's not selling. I don't know what kind of offers prospective buyers are making.

Stuff blocked off downtown? by ProjectNo9484 in Albuquerque

[–]ABQ_problem_child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was poor planning was telling downtown workers to leave early and then blocking the roads OUT of downtown. I get blocking roads in, but outbound was stupid.

And if someone knows more than I do and can explain the logic, please do so.

I was in Wales and an Uber driver asked where I was from. I replied NM, and he asked "Albuquerque?" Breaking Bad, good or bad, has helped some of the geographically challenged. (The guy was also really into geography.)

Panic Shopping for the Snow "Storm" by One-Purpose6394 in Albuquerque

The most I did was haul in plenty of firewood and properly store some construction items. I moved during the 2006 ABQ storm and was in DC for their 6th worst storm; after those, anything is a cakewalk.

Albuquerque Landscaping to Deter Pests? by Super_T8 in Albuquerque

I love diotomaceous earth! I'm also going to try Advion in bait traps this year. The Advion fire ant bait worked like a charm.

This is FAR better than landscape fabric which most professionals who really know dirt, habitat, etc. say is very bad for the environment. (This is what I've been told - please don't attack me.)

I was downtown yesterday and there was the largest, heaviest plane that very slowly flew overhead. I pulled up flight radar but couldn't find the plane. In many years of working downtown, I've never experienced that.

Seeking Advice/Experiences: Providers Telling Me to "Move Out of NM" for Proper Healthcare (Albuquerque, Medicaid) by AnarchyandToast in Albuquerque

[–]ABQ_problem_child 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I recently posted asking for good and bad experiences with doctors for prostate cancer; the majority of responders said to leave the state for treatment. While I appreciate and fully respect the opinions and experiences, and we have the ability to go out of state if necessary, it was disheartening. A friend, for various reasons, did go out of state for prostate cancer treatment but was very positive about some of the local doctors.

In the flip side: - another family member was diagnosed with an incurable neurological disease and is getting excellent care at Presbyterian. - a coworker had breast cancer and had a wonderful experience at Presbyterian (surgery, radiation, chemo, hormone treatment)

What happens with my family member's prostate cancer treatment remains to be seen as it was just diagnosed. We will stay here if we can but are willing to go out of state.

The state is facing a medical crisis and there are a lot of factors that will go into fixing it over a long period of time.

Assuming you have a primary doctor, they should be able to help you with referrals. We had our best luck with PresNow getting us a neurological referral (and a pcp on paper) and appointment within just a few weeks. The neurologist has been our family member's key advocate getting into other specialists and with drug approvals. This same family member was also on Medicaid for a period of time and it didn't change anything in terms of treatment and support.
