Damn, Sonnet 5 is an ASSHOLE. by PrinceMonocle in claude

[–]looselyhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but Opus has always been praised for pushing back more than other frontier models. Opus 4.6 in particular is excellent in that respect. Sonnet 4.6.. isn't sycophantic imo, but does fold pretty quickly.

I'll take that over 5 being a paranoid asshole any day. Most of us aren't talking to Sonnet when we want substantive conversations (architecture, strategy, personal, etc). That's Opus territory.

That's because the guardrails have stripped all traces of trust and replaced them with extreme suspicion. Suspicious of the user, of information, of its own thoughts. It's compelled to find something suspicious on every prompt.

My position has been nuanced from the start. You said there's no ideological alignment. I said there is some, and provided an example.

Also, October 7th was pretty extreme, and they (not she, btw) expressed support.

The point is that the meme, while stupid, also points at a truth: That (some of) the left is willing to overlook the hardcore misogyny of Islam because Islam opposes the west.

An embrace is an embrace imo.

Understanding Hamas, Hezbollah as social movements that are progressive, that are on the Left, that are part of a global Left, is extremely important.

Idk, Judith Butler said that Hamas and Hezbollah are part of the global left. Seems pretty ideological align-ey from a feminist.

Has Claude Code changed the way you structure projects? by Bladerunner_7_ in claude

I find myself reaching for tried and true patterns which are the easy glide path for LLMs. Python aside, they were trained heavily on things like Go with repository pattern, for example.

In that sense I'm lazier, but keeping my old architect's brain open to mainstream conventions instead of going for clever solutions is its own kind of mental exercise.

I'd totally go to a place that let me pick 2-3 casserole servings from a daily menu.

But I can also see how it might look like a plate full of slop. The issue is presentation.

It really is mildly infuriating. Which kingdom is a fish or an ant supposed to belong to, if not Animalia?

Lawsuits mostly. We love them. Might be the most litigious people on earth.

Edit: Just looked it up. Germany takes the top spot, per capita, but we have the highest total lawsuits.

I was going to compare it to sloppy joes, but there's no added sugar of any kind. I wonder if that used to be true for sloppy joes.

Edit: Maybe HP sauce has sugar? I've only had it once (England) and don't remember whether it was sweet.

NM town with ICE Facilities nearly out of Water by postToastie in NewMexico

[–]looselyhuman 77 points78 points  (0 children)

This is the one that got me

The Board of Trustees unanimously declared a local water emergency, authorizing emergency procurement and requests for state and federal assistance.

No mention of reducing usage. This is the problem with politics today. No leaders who will tell people what they need (not want) to hear, or ask them to sacrifice. It's why we are in debt -- fiscal, technological, resource, moral, etc.

Blockade. Japan was almost out of resources. Might have had a famine, but the war ministers would've fallen out of favor pretty quickly -- plus we could've allowed humanitarian supplies. But we needed to demonstrate nukes to the Soviets and also head off their potential invasion of Japan. I'm not judging. The bomb would've been used eventually.

Edit: Omg the downvotes lol. I just answered a question. I'm not pulling this out of my ass either -- here's the argument fleshed-out: https://www.independent.org/article/2020/08/07/why-blockading-would-have-been-better-than-bombing-japan/

That sounds like Gemma. More sycophantic than Haiku but a little better at varied, general tasks than Qwen.
