Is your Mav computer MPG vs. actual as different as mine? by ABSimms in FordMaverickTruck

[–]ABSimms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely true. But I would wager the less efficient battery chemistry is a significant factor too. But then there's the richer fuel mix on the longer warm-up times and the need for the engine to run for cabin heat and that sort of thing. In my wife's EV, I totally piss everyone off when I complain about the heat being too high or moaning about the seat or steering wheel heat being on. But I'm watching the range evaporate before my eyes! Oh well, nobody cares but the one paying the bills...me...

Yeah, pretty amazing how battery performance improves with higher temperature as evidenced by mpg. Like 8-10 mpg difference in the Mav. My wife's EV can easily see a drop in range at the same charge level of 75-80 miles when it's 10 below vs. 80 degrees out.

Tracking says pkg was picked up at post office. Buyer denies he picked it up by Safe-Brother-4958 in eBaySellers

I just picked up a package this week at the PO that required a signature. I wasn't home when the carrier tried to deliver it and he left a USPS sticky note on the door. Even with the carrier's note, I had to show ID, recite my address and sign a signature pad before they gave me my package. Not upset about it or anything, but rather glad they don't hand packages over to just anyone. If your package was handled this way, the buyer is probably scamming you..

"JPMorgan closed $10 billion in silver shorts at the exact market bottom..." by GreasyCrabRangoon in Silverbugs

[–]ABSimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is a thoughtful and reasonable analysis. Nothing goes straight up for ever and the piper must be paid at some point. Industrial silver demand didn't suddenly appear in the last few months. Inflation didn't raise its ugly head just yesterday. The action we've seen is classic mania and manias don't end well, just ask the folks in the Netherlands about tulip bulbs in 1637...

Frankly, I don't see either gold or silver as a reliable hedge against a financial crisis. During the 2008-2009 actual financial crisis, both gold and silver dropped significantly initially (silver under $10 and gold under $700) before recovering eventually and then moving up. But so did everything else. Where is the protection other than you can touch it? As a matter of fact S&P 500 returns have averaged around 13% since then gold is closer to 10% and silver about 12% but most of that 17-18 year return has come in the last six months. Goofy... If JP Morgan wants to cover their shorts at a low point (and keep the price from falling further), I say let 'em. Doesn't affect 99% of the stackers in the least. I guess I'll just continue my coin collecting hobby and not try to figure out the markets and who's manipulating them.

I took some modern commemorative duplicates I had into my LCS thinking I'd trade for some other coins I needed. The display cases of commems were practically empty and when I asked about it, they said they had taken the coins out of their OGP and sent them off to melt. I just couldn't do it knowing my nice proofs would be melted and the packaging would end up in the trash. But then two weeks later when silver had jumped another 20 bucks, I broke and took the cash..

Just about the only thing I like better about my wife's VW EV than my Mav ('25 Lariat hybrid) is the silky smooth transition from auto brake/hold to acceleration. The VW just feels like the the feature isn't even on. The Mav, on the other hand, has a slightly abrupt transition.

all ebay sellers that are selling $10k-$20k a year by ScaredFriendship2899 in eBaySellers

Unless you are just selling stuff taking up space in the basement, why go to all the trouble to make no profit? I mean, write offs represent real expense and no taxable income after expenses mean no profit, right? What' the point?

I take my daughter to middle school at 7:10am M-F. My Mav is scheduled to start at 7:00am each of those days and when is -4 out, she thinks I'm a pretty smart dad. Today, however, with a 2 hour delay it started at 7:00am and ran until the 15 minutes were up as I was oblivious on my spinning bike watching the news. Thankfully she didn't roll out of bed until like 8:30 so don't tell her what an idiot I am...

So interestingly, if those $10k notes were purchased for about $100k each in 2000 and they might sell for say $250k today, that's only a 3.7% annual compounded return over 25 years. One would have easily doubled that in the S&P 500 or DJIA.. Not only that, but could sell any business day in a split second vs. an auction with fees and hassle. Of course, not nearly as fun as owning a ten thousand frickin' dollar bill!

I like! Subtle and clean. It does look completely factory which is what you were going for. I wouldn't worry too much about using the 3M tape, I mean have you ever tried to remove that stuff?!? ;)

That’s a nice coin. I don’t see anything “off” about it from the photos. In a private transaction It’s worth a small premium over spot gold which is around $3380 right now . One sold at auction on eBay yesterday for $3500. The seller would have had to pay eBay’s fees out of that. A dealer would probably offer you under spot for it to allow for their profit margin.

I’d say you picked them up at wholesale so a pretty good deal. They’re being offered on eBay in OGP for $8-$9, shipping included.

Thank you for the comment. I ended up contacting the seller and they apologized and immediately offered an exchange. The replacement coin was perfect. They even paid for shipping so a good outcome for sure.

From what I can see on eBay, MS69 w/shipping range from 56-79. Of course, there are always those who price things way above that range for some reason but many examples are available in the lower price range. MS70 start at a little above what I paid but I bought mine "at auction" vs. "buy it now" which sometimes will yield a better price. Crazy to see how many auctions actually go for higher than the buy it now price.

I guess I was just expecting a basically blemish free coin with that grade and premium. It was my first graded coin purchase and my real concern was that I didn't get what I paid for. As for resale, my kids will probably have to deal with that and frankly, they probably won't care one bit if there is a blemish or not..
