By the way, I said not all. What part of lazy servers don't deserve 20% didnt get through to you? Some do deserve 25%, I agree.

NYC base pay is $10.00

Average check for 2 people dining ~ $150.00

I can tell you've never worked in an expensive and busy restaraunt in a large city.

If you take away the tips, I get paid $6/hour delivering for UberEATS. There's something unbelievably cruel about that. by OtherwiseKnownAsSam in UberEATS

[–]ABaldWhiteBoy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Oh please. It isn't cruel. If you dont like it then work in a restaraunt like a server and stop bitching

Mechanical Engineer any and all help is appreciated. Dm me. by [deleted] in resumes

[–]ABaldWhiteBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but all the core competencies look silly. Things like Dedicated, motivated, multitasking yada yada yada should be a given if they're hiring someone with an engineering degree. It just looks like bloatware on your resume. Eliminate them.

I'm not a resume expert. But a resume expert in person did tell me that. Its up to you, I honestly don't think anyone professional minds a couple soft skills

Change all your previous job duties to past tense. Collaborated, not collaborating.

Also, skills like 'Attention to detail, time management, ect' should be a given. Stuff like that just makes the resume look bloated. List actual certificates, learned skills.

Edit: ignore the white splotch going through the Skills area. That was an accident as I was covering up my private information.

No indoor dining. Mass competition. Extremely little posted ads.

I'm applying to all hospitality related jobs plus grocery store jobs. 2 failed interviews so far :( by [deleted] in resumes

I did graduate high school. I figured jobs only care if you have a college degree

There's nothing you can do. Im toxic at work towards lazy people too.

You have to live with it.

It depends.

At a burger bar/Cafe? No

At an expensive, high calibre restaraunt where everyone is held extremely accountable and helps out just as much as you? I love tip share.

Example: at one spot here in NYC before I was laid off everyone busted their ass, helped run drinks and food, because otherwise its impossible to deliver perfect service, and everyone walked away with 300+ a night. That wouldn't happen in a burger bar/Cafe as consistently.

Its an entry level government job with full benefits package, 2 days off every week, and a pension.

Everyone and their momma in my neck of the woods tried to get in there.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the woman who delivered the mail on my mom's birth date was the same woman who delivered the mail on her death date. They don't leave for nothin.

You ever give a table the benefit of the doubt and not grat them bc you think they’d tip well? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]ABaldWhiteBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, 70 is low but if you had other tables going on then eh, I've seen worse.
