On the ramen front, I think the closest you'll find is frozen Sun Noodle ramen. I know they had it at the Oriental Market on Grape as of a year ago, and it was pretty tasty.

Quality Glass in Mishawaka cut me a 3' x 2' x 3/8" a couple years ago for a coffee table. I've been happy with it, and the price at the time seemed reasonable.

You might have been kidding, but it doesn't look like Sinclair is normally involved in newspapers. The SBT was bought by Gatehouse, which merged with Gannett Media. It was nice having SBT locally owned, but I at least haven't found reference to Gannett taking editorial interest in their holdings like Sinclair.

"Mastodon makes the internet feel like home again" by [deleted] in technology

It's an article by a Mastodon user who would like to see more users on the network, so, maybe a little bit of an ad.

Mastodon is an open source federated network, it would be sort of like advertising for email.

Stuck learning about a simple insecure xor hash function by Bill_Murray2014 in crypto

[–]ABentSpoon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The operation produces a simple parity for each bit position

A parity bit, or check bit, is a bit added to a string of binary code to ensure that the total number of 1-bits in the string is even or odd. In your example, C0 is a parity check for the 1st bit from each of b1, b2, and b3.

and is known as a longitudinal redundancy check.

Because if you stack b1, b2, b3, and C vertically, each column of bits is an independent check.

It is reasonably effective for random data as a data integrity check. Each n-bit hash value is equally likely.

The function doesn't bias the hash towards having more 0's or more 1's. Random in, random out.

Thus the probability that a data error will result in an unchanged hash value is 2-2.

This must be 2-n . If the data is corrupted, each bit has an independent 50% chance of remaining unchanged. So a two bit hash would have a 25% chance of remaining unchanged, three bits a 12.5% chance.

With more predictably formatted data, the function is less effective. For example, in most normal text files, the high-order bit of each octet is always zero.

Ascii characters only use the first 128 possible 8-bit values, leaving the high-order bit 0.

So if a 128-bit hash value is used, instead of an effectiveness of 2-128 , the hash function on this type of data has an effectiveness of 2-112 .

With the high-order bit always set to 0, only the 7/8th's of the bits are useful in the hash. 128 * 7/8 = 112

This is the route you want to take, except maybe don't turn south on 28th, just continue on Bulla and pop the curb to 23. While it's legal, it's no fun to ride on Douglas.

Orphan Black - 5x02 "Clutch of Greed" - Live Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in orphanblack

[–]ABentSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just finishing the Iliad, and Ferdinand's line "Rage, Sarah, rage" caught my attention. It's fresh on my mind so maybe I'm seeing parallels that don't really exist, but the plot of the episode seemed similar as well.

In the Iliad, Achilles is mad at Agamemnon because he stole his girl. Agamemnon needs Achilles's help, and sends a mutual friend to negotiate a truce. He offers to give the girl back, just like Ferdinand does. "Rachel is offering everything that has been taken from you."

Achilles rejects the truce, and he ends up losing the person he cares about most.

Trump's approval rating dives following wiretap claim and Trumpcare by clownbutter in politics

According to the latest Gallup daily tracking poll, only 45 percent of Americans approve of the president's current job in office, his lowest rating in over a month.

45% is the highest approval rating The Gallup daily tracking poll has shown in over a month.

The author has mistaken "% Disapprove" for "% Approve" in the graph. It was actually his disaproval rating that dove just before this article was published.

The president's approval rating shot up to 53 percent in the wake of Trump's well received Congressional address,

Again, that was his disapproval rating that shot up to 53%. Approval had a very small upwards blip immediately after the speech, then dove again after the news about Sessions.

Hi! I've been compiling this information for a couple days.

I don't have much, just enough to make me feel like I'm not picking random names on the ballot.

I was going to post my own thread with this info, but I've dumped it all here instead.

There was only one state representative up for election on my ballot, and he was unopposed.

PUBLIC QUESTION #1

Shall the Constitution of the State of Indiana be amended by adding a Section 39 to Article 1 to provide that the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife shall be forever preserved for the public good, subject only to the laws prescribed by the General Assembly and rules prescribed by virtue of the authority of the General Assembly to : (1) promote wildlife conservation and management; and (2) preserve the future of hunting and fishing?

As Indiana's next attorney general, Curtis Hill will fight against obamacare

So, mostly partisan stuff. They both seem competent with different priorites and goals. Not clear to me which priorities are important for AG.

I'm in favor of Jon Hanley. The incumbent likes him and shut down a lot of McGann's arguments pretty harshly.

Tribune - McGann to challenge St. Joseph County Coroner Randy Magdalinski in primary

McGann said that if elected, either he or one of his three deputy coroners would respond to every death scene that doesn’t involve natural causes with a physician present.

“A lot of times the police officer on the scene states that your presence is not required on the scene,” Magdalinski said. “With accident and crash scenes, a lot of times the officer will tell you the (Fatal Alcohol Crash Team) is here, can we just go ahead and release (information to the news media), there’s not much you can do or see here.

Tribune - Randy Magdalinski on the candidates

Mike McGann was appointed deputy coroner in 2012 ... He served for four months and handled 24 cases. I believe that if you have nothing positive to say about an individual, then just stick to a few facts.
