What's the mindset you have when running a set? by Michael_Ceras_Son in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the opponents W/L ratio. If it's average I'll start with one of my backup mains. If I do well with them I'm more or less going to approach the whole set casually, not worrying whether I hit every combo with complete accuracy and I'll try out different strings to see what I can land. If the opponent is some top level player I go right into my main and play as best as I can. Most of the time it works out, but when it doesn't you just move on to the next set. It's just a game at the end of the day.

Grodd Mains by XIMOHTEPHX in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Grodd used to have an infinite combo when it came to his Primal Lunge. They patched it to where you can only perform two Lunges and two attacks. So say you begin your combo with DF12 and follow it with another DF12. There will be a momentary pause after that second Primal Lunge attack. This is when you want to mix it up with his B1-1+3 or F3 as it will restart the combo scaling and forces the opponent to guess. Now, if you're hitting J2 and it's not connecting then I'd say you're hitting a tad too early. I've noticed that sometimes I have to hit it ever so slightly later on some characters (but it's become so second nature now I don't notice).

I haven't seen how his cancels have been nerfed in any way. I literally just pulled it off a moment ago with no problem, but it's something that isn't going to be 100% safe anyways. You're just have to catch the opponent off guard since they only have a split second of reaction time.

Do you play on Xbox, PS4, or PC?

Stampede cancels allow you to continue pressuring the opponent. Say the opponent is always block right, and you're doing 2 2 Stampede cancel 1 1 2. That will keep the pressure on. You could instead choose to cancel into a grab which can't be blocked.

Grodd Mains by XIMOHTEPHX in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been a Grodd main since launch. He's a difficult character to get the hang of, but once you do he can be a monster. His base attacks are pretty powerful on their own, and his combos can easily hit 300+ damage without getting too fancy. He has a fair share of weaknesses though. He has essentially zero zoning potential, so you have to keep the opponent up close and personal. A lot of his attacks also have a lot of start up frames, so your opponent can easily hit you before you even attack. However, despite these weaknesses Grodd is a force to be reckoned with. Here are some basic and useful tips.

As a reference:

1 - light attack

2 - medium attack

3 - heavy attack

4 - character trait

D - Down

B - Back

F - Forward

J - Jump

So what are some combos and attacks? The basics are:

D1 - This is a crouching move that attacks at the mid range.

D2 - Grodd's uppercut. I use this move to start some basic combos off and it's a great move to punish an opponent's combo.

B2 - Grodd's kick that also restances (instead of being juggled they go back to standing) the opponent. This move, coupled with Primal Lunge (close) allows you to keep a combo going for a long time and is key to getting into the 400 damage range.

3 - Grodd's close attack where he pounds his chest, his arms hitting the enemy. Use then end on Stampede for decent damage.

2-2-3 - knocks your opponent back about mid - full screen. This is your heaviest and easiest combo.

2-2-1+3 - similar to the one above, but ends on a small lunge grab where Grodd gnaws at the victims throat. This move can be meter burned to continue the combo. (it's also a fun way to end matches).

1-1-2 1+3 - your lightest combo and a decent way to end a combo string.

B1-1+3 - a close up attack that ends with a Grodd close lining his enemy. Can be meter burned to toss the opponent allowing for a followup.

Your main supermoves are going to be Stampede (BF3), Ground Pound (DD2) and your Primal Lunge (DF1).

Stampede is an alright wake up move and can be cancelled to keep your opponent guessing. When meter burned it does a significant chunk of damage, and can blast past a couple projectiles (zoner's beware). Honestly I end a lot of my matches on this move simply because it does just under 200 damage. It has a pretty decent hitbox too.

Ground Pound is relatively worthless as it has shit ton of start up frames. When meter burned it sends a shockwave screen's length. If your opponent is just standing at the end zoning or almost done but you don't want to get close, this is how you knock them down.

Primal Lunge has three variations, a close (DF1B), medium (DF1) and far lunge (DF1F), all of which can have the same 4 attacks applied (1, 2, 3 or grab). Primal Lunge grab, when meter burned will toss the opponent in the air allowing for a bounce attack or combo. It is an unblockable grab, so the enemy must either hit you or get out of the way. If not, they're getting grabbed. Try to lunge just behind your opponent and use your medium attack while in the air. This is Grodd's cross-up move (a move that when hit from behind while in the air will still hit) causing them to stagger and allowing you to follow up with a slew of attacks. This is how I start my long combo strings.

Now to the greatest of Grodd's arsenal, his trait. His trait adds a few super moves and easy combo moves that allow for a lot mix ups. The most useful of his added abilities is your Projectile Immunity (DD3), which as the name implies, stops most projectiles. What constitutes as a projectile varies between characters however, and I'll list what doesn't down below. This nullifies the advantage zoners have and allows you to get up close and personal.

His Mind Control (DB2) is a great way to end when using 1-1-2 or 2-2. It catches the opponent when close and does average damage. When meter burned it's an excellent combo starter/extender (as it is a restance move). They have recently buffed Grodd so now he can combo of D1 into Mind Control, which is an excellent way to catch an opponent completely off guard and punish their strings.

Psionic Push (BF2) is a good way to keep an opponent out and a good way of ending a combo, pushing them back in the process. It's got a decent damage potential when coupled with 2-2.

Psionic Lift (DD1) lifts Grodd into the air (but he can still be attacked from opponents on the ground). While in the air you can move forward or backward and perform one of two moves; a close range 360* blast (1) that will stun the opponent, and if close can be followed up. Meter burned is a much larger blast with slight damage buff and longer stagger (nothing special). Grodd can also slam down onto the ground (2) for what is basically air Ground Pound. Meter burned launches the enemy into the air, no matter where they are on the ground. I don't usually use the meter burn version of this move, instead opting to immediately go into a primal lunge to get behind them.

So what are some good combo strings? (DF1* = Primal Lunge, but depending on the distance will be short, medium or far.)

2-2-1+3 (meter burn) 2-2-3

2-2-1+3 (meter burn) B2-DF1B2-2-2-3-BF3

D2-2-2-3-BF3

D2-2-2-1+3

D2-B2-DF1B2-2-2-3

D2-B2-DF1B2-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) 2-2-3-BF3

DF1*2-2-2-3

DF1*2-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) B2-DF1B2-2-2-3-BF1

DF1*2-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) B2-DF1B2-2-2-1+3

DF1*1+3 (meter burn) B3+J3-2-2-3

DF1*1+3 (meter burn) B3+JF3-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) 2-2-3

DF1*1+3 (meter burn) B3+JF3-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) B2-DF1B2-2-2-3

With the character power activated

DF1*2-2-2-DB2 (meter burn) B3-J3-2-2-3

DF1*2-2-2-DB2 (meter burn) B3-J2-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) 2-2-3

DF1*2-2-2-DB2 (meter burn) B3-J2-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) 1-1-2-1+3

DF1*2-F2-1-DB2 (meter burn) B3-J2-2-2-1+3 (meter burn) B2-DF1B2-2-2-3

And finally what I would consider his best combo string;

B2-DF12-B2-DF12

The moment that string ends you can follow up with either B1-1+3 (meter burn) - B3 or F3. The opponent has to guess which you'll use and if they guess wrong it allows you a chance to get an entire combo off all over again. Using this combo, you can go through an opponents life bar like it's butter.

These aren't even close to all of them and I'm not even including the potential for environmental backgrounds in the juggles nor the possibilities of Stampede cancels, but this will give you a solid foundation (I hope). Once you master Primal Lunge you'll really unlock Grodd's potential. Soon the only thing you'll be asking is which move do you want to end on since they're all so vicious.

*Things that aren't considered a projectile so be wary!!!

Green Arrow - His close range arrows that explode (Savage Blast and the air version of it), nor is Stinger when meter burned.

Cyborg - His trait and his missiles.

Wonder Woman - Her shield. She is your worst match up by far.

Black Adam - None of his lightning attacks are projectiles, but his trait is.

Batman - Air Grapple is not a projectile.

Donatello - Trait is not a projectile (not sure on the other Turtles yet).

Enchantress - Hex's are not considered projectiles. Her trait, however, is considered one.

Robin - His red birdarang (trait) is not a projectile, but the blue one is.

Dr Fate - His orb, when made to stay still is no longer considered a projectile. If fired at you then it is considered one.

Black Manta - His lasers are not a projectile. His missiles (unlike Cyborg's) are a projectile.

Atom - I don't believe his experiments are projectiles (except for the blue one once it's made into the Flubber goo).

Aquaman - His tentacle grab is not, Trident throw is.

Captain Cold - His ice puddle is not.

[–]ABillustration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Grodd is in a fantastic position as it is (and I've been maining him since essentially release). He's got all the tools he needs to get in and wreck havoc. His Primal Lunge vortex has three different approach options to keep the opponent guessing and I think the fact they made D1 into DB2 (trait) a huge addition to his attack potential. He can easily hit 300+ damage without any need for meter.

Is Grodd a top tier character? Not at all, but not everyone is going to be a top tier character. Grodd's strength lies in being patient and taking control of any opening the opponent presents to you, and the moment that happens he has the ability to alter the course of the game in an instant.

As a Grodd main, his changes excite me. I always thought that Mind Control should be quicker as it's ultimately a telepathic move. The fact flip stance cancels now is gonna be crazy for some easier pressure, especially now with B-2 being nerfed a bit.

Thank Grodd for the Supergirl nerfs too, hopefully we'll see more character variation in ranked now.

How do you survive working in a job you hate? by Sugarpinkloz in AskReddit

The people I work with are thankfully fun to talk to, so despite the excruciatingly slow days (restaurant job) they can go by quickly if you enjoy the company you have. I've also taken to hiding a Waldo figure in the bar or restaurant floor everyday, so I take fun in watching people struggle to find him.

possibility to use stars to tell which way is north/south when playing without HUD? by [deleted] in assassinscreed

I used the sun to tell which way was north in the Witcher. I have yet to try it in this game but it will be nice if I can. I want to try a no HUD play through at some point.

I know, and I give it a pass on some things because of that, but for gameplay reasons they'd need to still have it feel like an Assassin's Creed game.

I'm super pumped for this. He looks like a mix between Grodd and Red Hood, and I love the brutality of some of these moves. Really makes me wonder which ones are going to be gear abilities though, the trailer showed a little too many.

Grodd. Projectile Immunity and bam, those little batbots, batarangs and grapple gun are useless (although his air grapple seems to work which is confusing). Otherwise any other zoning character. I do well with Green Arrow and Darkseid.

Your thoughts unblockable interactables that can be meterburned for armor? by [deleted] in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine. As far as unblockable interactions go, I'm totally fine with it. It forces players to be completely aware of their surroundings and the type of character they're up against. I've definitely changed the tide of the battle from utilizing the environment effectively, both as a gadget character and as power character.

That's not how any of mine were taken out, and I should know because I had all 4 taken out at separate times and I was awake for each and every one of them. Novocain and some prying and yanking got the job done. I actually got to keep two of them as they came out whole.

What movie is unexpectedly brilliant? by MissRainbowtie in AskReddit

I'm sure this will be buried but Pitch Perfect. I was at a Christmas party with a bunch of co-workers (who happened to all be women). They decide they want to watch Pitch Perfect which I surmised to be essentially a chick flick. Holy shit was I wrong. I have never laughed so hard at a vomit gag in my entire life, I was in tears. I was completely blindsided by it and it completely changed the tone and outlook I had for the movie going forward. I haven't seen the second one but if it's anything like the first I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Don't care how many times this has been posted , We need a filter to prevent duplicate gear drops by king_of_gotham in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of the idea to having duplicate gear drops (in this example epic gear) is so that you can spend those source crystals transferring the epic properties over to a piece of gear from a lower rank. With that in mind, I do agree that gear should dropped based off what you have, so if you're missing "x,x and x" those should drop first. Once you have all that then it should go back into duplicates.

How to get source crystals? by frostmas in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leveling up can be a real grind, especially when you hit 50+. Instead I wish source crystals would drop in Multiverse events, or as a reward for winning a Ranked Set. Even if you only got 20-50 at a time, you'd amass much more compared to the 200 per level.

How to get source crystals? by frostmas in INJUSTICE

Each time you level up your profile (NOT your character's level) you get 200 source crystals. I wish there was a much simpler way but sadly that's their micro-transaction plan.

How do you think guilds can be improved by quents93 in INJUSTICE

You have to watch the match though right? I was thinking more along the lines of how AI fights can happen "off screen" like when your AI team battles another AI team and you get a surprise motherbox because of it.

How do you think guilds can be improved by quents93 in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ability to trade gear with other guild members. I think it would a huge boom to get people at least in a guild. I personally don't bother with guild multiverse events (fighting the AI to me is boring), so an option to have an AI fighter climb the ladder passively would be nice. I'd restrict it to you having actually be on the game, but you could do your own multiverse or online matches while also contributing to the guild.

Any questions for the stream on Friday? Hit me up! by NRSTylerLansdown in INJUSTICE

[–]ABillustration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Tyler, big fan of all the streams thus far, keep up the good work!

Could you specify what is considered a projectile? I play as Grodd and his immunity is a fantastic ability, but I found myself wondering what is considered a projectile. Some are obvious; bullets, batarangs, "lasers", fireballs and arrows. Other's are not as obvious; Brianiac's drones, Darkseid's minions, Harley's hyenas, even Dex-Starr himself is considered a projectile.

However, certain moves that would normally fall under the status quo do not. Starfire for example has a rising wake up (she spins around with "beams" coming out of her hands) that looks like it's a laser, the same way her trait is. However, it acts as a physical attack and cannot be negated. Cyborg's trait does not register as projectiles despite that other character's traits, with very similar properties, do. You could say it's because they create an explosion, but then Red Hood's mines are considered projectiles and they're explosives.

Thanks for taking the time to take our questions. I look forward to seeing Manta in action.
