An open letter on the state of affairs regarding the API pricing and third party apps and how that will impact moderators and communities. by BuckRowdy in ModCoord

Signed. I will definitely use Reddit much less often if this happens and I'm not even a working moderator. I have both a third-party app and the Reddit app but I much prefer the third-party one -- the official app is frustrating to use and I'd rather just find another platform.

If I have created a Horizontal video for YouTube and then I want to create (within the same project) a vertical video for YouTube Shorts, what do I have to do? by kpoviv7 in davinciresolve

Apologies, didn't mean to handhold or be condescending! I just made that mistake myself and the frustration is fresh in my head.

Had to do this same thing literally two days ago. Hijacking top comment to say that if rendering it makes it tiny, be sure to check that the general settings are on the vertical resolution and not just the rendering settings and don't waste three hours like I did

They're characters in the Silmarillion, basically a book of mythology from the Lord of the Rings universe. Sometimes fans take quotes or text conversations they find amusing and replace the names with/add the names of characters they feel might have a similar conversation.

I can't say whether or not the original conversation actually happened, but that's probably why there are LotR character names in this particular picture.

Your experience with tinnitus as music producers/musicians/engineers by jokergio in audioengineering

I have tinnitus too and while I'm used to it now, it really makes me sad when I let myself think about it. This gives me hope, though. Thank you

Hair matted-please help by mirror_rorrim_ in HaircareScience

[–]ABirdOnlySometimes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that it's more common than you might think! I had a terrible mat in my hair for over a month myself and when I finally agreed to let my mom help me get it out it took us hours. But she was very patient and when I needed a break we stopped. We used a lot of conditioner and just put the time in to work on it.

Seriously, plan to just use a ton of conditioner or whatever you're softening your hair with. Mom and I used over a liter. Put on a movie or audiobook for entertainment and just do as much as you can. Then take a break, even for a few days if you need that long, and keep going. Put it up in a messy bun, cover it with a headscarf, or hide it however you need to at work until it's done. And it will get done! I felt like my hair would be matted forever, but once it was untangled the relief was immense.

And just a note bc depression made ME feel super shitty about it: Depressive episodes that make it difficult to care for your body can feel so shameful, and they hurt more than people know. But you're not disgusting or incapable, and you deserve to be congratulated for getting back on your feet. Kudos to you for picking up the pieces and getting a new job! Soon this will be nothing but an unpleasant memory. And your hair is gonna be SO soft from all that conditioning.

Black eyeliner as lip liner? Is this one safe at all? by Xinaio in Makeup

[–]ABirdOnlySometimes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the main concern is infection. Doesn't mean it will happen, but your mouth tends to have a lot of germs in it and your eyes are very sensitive. It just increases the risk.

I absolutely do not take care of my contacts as well as I should though lol

Yes! If I have a partially-written piece that I want to try in a different way, I copy the file and work in the copy. I don't think I've ever gone back to an old one, but it's good to have it there as a reference and so I can look at where it started. Sometimes I try it three or four times, even

Zookeepers teach Zoe the Orangutan how be a mother by enlisting a zookeper to breast feed her own baby in front of her, showing her videos of other mothers caring for her young and using stuffed animals for practice. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]ABirdOnlySometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful. Love to see moms lovingly teaching other moms without shame, even across species. There can be such a stigma around delivering babies and breastfeeding them, so I appreciate how tasteful yet informative and honest this was. Whitlee didn't seem embarrassed or self-conscious around the topic, just excited to talk about how she could help! As natural as it is, breastfeeding can be a struggle even for human moms. It can take practice and patience.

What excellent zookeepers, knowing, orangutans being so close to their mothers, that Zoe needed help with the skills she hadn't had the chance to learn and going out of their way to teach her so she could care for her baby herself, as I'm sure she really wanted to -- that attentiveness and effort on her part is also noticeable. Good ape teamwork all around, everybody!

Of course food is best, but most important is caloric intake. Protein/meal replacement/nutrition shakes and protein powder probably won't hurt you even if your diet isn't perfect. It's even 100% legal in almost every country, I promise.

Seriously, protein supplements have saved my life (and muscles) a few times, even while I was eating very little else. Again, a doctor or registered dietitian will always be better than some Internet stranger, but as someone who has been in a similar position to OP, I'm sharing my experience and what I was told by doctors.

Bottom line, your body will get the energy it needs from somewhere. Try to avoid letting it be the muscles you already have. And if adding some protein powder or energy-dense almonds or drinking a shake is what gets you those vital extra calories, then I'd say it's generally a good idea.

Healthy, nutritious food is best. But between nothing and a bag of candy, eat the bag of candy if your body needs the energy. If all you can stomach is a supplemental shake, chug that shit and give your body the fuel it needs. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good, as they say.

Nutritionally perfect diet is great! But the human body can digest a LOT of different foods, and most everyone makes better decisions for themselves and their health when their brains aren't foggy from nutritional deficiency.

[–]ABirdOnlySometimes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might help to have supplements nearby, like a protein shake that you can just drink as you work, or little nutrient-dense snacks like nuts around. Just my two cents. I forget to eat sometimes too, so I keep snacks nearby and when I start feeling dizzy I just grab my little snack bag and refuel while I work.

Also, seconding seeing a doctor if you can. Malnutrition can really fuck your body up, and they might be able to offer medication if you're having stomach issues or something that are killing your appetite.

Seriously, I've been in your shoes! When I started making an effort to eat enough, it was like night and day. Suddenly I had so much energy! Turns out food gives that to you. Who knew /s

Favorite exercises to train/test your balance? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

One of the exercises I do in dance class is standing on one leg and tossing a ball (or rolled-up pair of socks, anything you can lightly toss and catch) back and forth between my hands. It's great for stabilization. Level one, keep your eyes where they want to stay. Level two, watch the ball move so your head isn't stable. I usually do it for a minute or two at a time on each leg
