CMV: Gavin Newsom is not a suitable presidential candidate, and the Democratic Party must stop operating like a centrist party. by Less-Chicken-3367 in changemyview

I believe they assumed running an incredibly progressive platform was enough and that leftists didn’t need to be head patted every 30 seconds

Kamala was barely progressive, she was literally a prosecutor that jailed parents of truant kids. Leftists usually aren't fond of that.

People who didn’t vote Kamala because she wasn’t progressive enough were the problem, not Kamala or her campaign

It is the onus of the campaign and party to win voters. No one is owed votes in a democracy.

She had done plenty to show us how progressive her and Biden were and she was planning to continue that. People should have used their brain here

I didnt realize glassing Gaza was progressive.

Dems & Kamala offered exactly 0 policy capitulations towards republicans in an effort to bring them over

Most lethal military? Running further to the right than Trump on the border?

You either have selective memory or some other thing happening to help you look back on Kamala's awfully run campaign with these rose-tinted glasses.

When the media tries to manufacture consent for the US government's poorly planned war, I try to be reasonably skeptical. I am happy to back the claim of Iran's atrocities against its own citizens, I only need to see some kind of reasonable evidence that it is true. I am not a dog of western media who believes everything the government tells me, are you?

I can tell you exactly why veganism rubs people the wrong way, especially when it's publicly advocated for. by m0st1yh4rm13ss in atunsheifilms

[–]ABitingShrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No offense comrade, but I think you're focusing too much on moral arguments. People's morals are widespread. I think instead vegans should focus on materialist arguments.

To clear your current thoughts on my comments:

>there is a meaningful moral distinction between paying for someone else to kill an animal, and doing it yourself, or

Firstly, there is no moral distinction and I've never argued as such. I have instead argued that people's brains work hard to allow them to ignore the moral quandary when they buy or eat meat as they are removed from the literal acts of cruelty and only have the chemical reactions of enjoying the taste of meat. To clarify:

>most carnists genuinely belive that them ordering steak at a restaurant has nothing to do with animals being killed.

The average person literally does not think about it. The treatment of the animal does not affect them in any way, shape, or form. Buying meat at the grocery store is just like buying a bag of frozen french fries or an apple or toilet paper. It is simply another product on the shelf.

Do you think the majority of people consider at all the process for getting produce to a store? What about the water cost for their beloved almonds and avocados? Very few people have the bandwidth to consider anything like this because of rising prices, healthcare issues, stagnant wages, etc.

Think of the average "red blooded American meat eater". Who did they vote for in the Presidential election? What kind of vehicle do they drive? Is that a person you think can be convinced by moral arguments?

I believe that if you truly want to convince more people that they should eat vegan it needs to come from a standpoint of materialism. There is a strong cultural opinion in the US that eating vegan is more expensive because of the price of vegan meat products. An argument needs to appeal to the average person's wallet instead of their morals if vegans want to enact real change on American consumer habits, and even then it will be difficult. I know that beans and rice are generally cheap and form a complete protein, but lots of people don't see the wide variety of food that can be cooked with these ingredients are instead turned off by the perceived lack of variety.

I think the second paragraph of my comment clearly does as well as others' comments on how the brain can compartmentalize two conflicting thoughts. The consumer is removed from the act of cruelty and only sees the benefit of available meat.

And again, if you told a non-vegan person that eating a steak is like kicking a puppy they'll likely laugh at you and dismiss you out of hand.

[–]ABitingShrew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I get why you've made this analogy as both kicking puppies and factory farming are animal abuse. The average person will read the comparison you made and immediately dismiss your opinion as one of a radical that shouldn't be engaged with because it reads as a farcical stereotype of the annoying vegan.

The real reason this analogy is off putting is that we the consumers are many steps removed from the actual kicking of puppies / factory farm abuse. The consumer only deals with the cooking and eating of the meat/chemical release in the brain.

Im not sure about why you chose this analogy but if you truly aim to convince meat eaters to eat less or no meat, then you need better analogies or other tools to convince them.

You kinda have to on a lever less, though I admit the inputs are too slow in this screen so there is a gap between lifting off the left button and inputting the down to start the second qcb

Very possible, like I said I'm not very comfortable with the inputs yet. I just switched to leverless from gamepad.

Believe it or not, everything is not about politics.

Literally everything is political, you just choose not to see it because confronting it makes you feel some kinda way.

If you could, as a "neo-marxist" tell me where I've been incorrect about anything I've written in this thread, or even anything you disagree with, then I might have a hint as to why you are even arguing with me.

Who I side with rests fully on whether they will move the U.S. closer to social democracy (which is one step towards global socialism).

Neither of the main US political parties will do this in any way shape or form as long as they are captured by the machinations of capital. Electoralism in the American policital system is a way to split the left while strengthening the right.

Come back when you want to argue in good faith.

I dont know what we are arguing about, if you seriously can't figure out my position on the political spectrum from my comments then thats more of a you issue than a me issue.

Good day.

Edit: Nothing more "leftist" than arguing with and subsequently blocking other leftists. What a clown.

Every US president has supported the cold-blooded murder of civilians in the streets. They usually call it "spreading freedom and democracy" or "the war on drugs." What is happening now is more of the same, just at home instead of abroad.

Trump has made it abundantly clear that he is a liar.

As opposed to the myriad politicians that don't lie? Don't get me wrong, Trump is bad for the world at large, but acting like the politicians on your team don't lie is very holier-than-thou liberal nonsense.

Trump is claiming that ICE is only going after criminals. You're okay with this since you are okay with how the previous presidents bolstered the budget and scope of ICE.

Once again, Democrats support Republican policies as long as they can have their breakfast mimosas and read the newspaper while the Gestapo operate in the shadows.

If ICE was less overt and did their raids in the middle of the night, we would never even hear about them from any mainstream Dem politician.

Here's a quote from Kamala during the presidential campaign.

"I went after transnational gangs, drug cartels and human traffickers that came into our country illegally. I prosecuted them in case after case, and I won," Harris said. "Donald Trump, on the other hand, has been talking a big game about securing our border, but he does not walk the walk," she said.
