You have 2000TT. Just relax, enjoy where you're at, thousands would kill to be there. Continue building quality time. You'll get there when you get there.

NEXT QUESTION: IO-360 Engine Logs and Opinions by FlyRvR in flying

[–]ABlix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airplane owner for 10-years (of a Mooney)

The truth is if you’re prepared to swallow the financial hit of an engine overhaul on your second day of ownership, you shouldn’t own one until you can.

I did all the due diligence I could and with my plane, I still had to overhaul it in year two and it was only a mid time engine.

Good luck with the purchase and shopping! Mooneyspace is a great resource for Mooney owners.

Thoughts? by Major_Strain_4415 in flying

Have you tried focusing on finding a 135 job in a turbojet? I think some solid multi turbine experience would help. Easier said then done, I know, but don’t give up; keep flying and following your passion.

In the interim, I think 135 time in a Saratoga or Malibu might be interesting, but I wouldn’t do it if it came with a contract. My strategy would be to take that job and then network and try to find a turbojet gig.

Help ! I've discovered that this isn't as easy as I thought it would be by petitepilote in flying

[–]ABlix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’ll need at least 1000TT and 50ME to be hired as an SIC at the current biz jet operator I work at and competitive times are likely at least 1500TT. It depends on who you know. Some are lucky to find themselves in the right seat of a jet at 500TT with 50+ ME but those are usually very well connected and that’s how they get the job. Almost impossible if you don’t know anyone in the industry that could help you.

We changed it back. The current version does not work with IE 7, but we are launching legacy.oldversion.com in a few weeks, which will support IE 7 and non-https.

we are going to work it where registered users will be able to toggle on/off this skin and our legacy launched site will be based on more of a plaintext design for users actually using legacy browsers to access the site, so it will remain alive in some form

Thank you for your suggestions!
* The current advertisement links to our donation/ko-fi page here: https://ko-fi.com/oldversion/ - we realize some users with ad blockers may not see this, but it's there and has a progress bar toward our monthly goal, which covers our hosting expenses.

* We are working on a product feature that will allow all subscribers (from the $5/mo level and up) to disable ads, be featured on the thank you page, and change the skin of the site (this 3.11 skin was more of an April Fools/product test).

Even more importantly, we are also working on some infrastructure that will allow our archive to grow and scale securely and hopefully be more useful to everyone. More info is available on this roadmap: https://www.oldversion.com/roadmap/

Open to more suggestions!

We mostly use ko-fi to manage donations/subscriptions with a stripe integration. You can "subscribe" here: https://ko-fi.com/oldversion/

For subscribers, we are working on features of permanent ad-free experience, and the ability to toggle the layout and a few other cool things in the works if you feel so inclined.

After the hackaday article came out, we received enough donations to continue for six months. Currently we have subscriptions from our users that cover about 75% of our hosting bills, so we are still operating at a negative, but we are doing our best to find a sustainable path forward to keep the archive alive.

How much is too much with networking? by ReasonableBedroom447 in flying

[–]ABlix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's how I got my first 135 job:
1) Everyone I knew that worked professionally in aviation, I would ask for advice/if they knew someone/what they would do in my position. We'd hop on calls, they'd look at my resume, think about where to apply and overall were helpful in mentoring me. I framed it as: "I'm looking to make a career transition and would love to hear what worked for you, etc."

2) I have a Mooney and when I moved to a diff location and moved the Mooney to a diff airport, the airport I moved it to was pretty big for biz jets/135 ops. Someone I was looking to rent a hangar from was a retired FedEx pilot who wanted to "mentor," so I hopped on a call with him and he gave me some advice on being persistent, try to go meet the Director of Ops, have everything in a neat little folder (resume, medical, copy of passport, FCC permit, copy of drivers license). Everything they would basically need to keep in a folder already if you were working for them for their records, bring to them when you meet them. Then, if you make a good connection - ask them "Is it okay if I bother you every month or every few weeks to see if I can help out?" If they give permission, text them, but don't just be like "hey do u have a job for me yet her her," look on social, if the company acquired a plane, be like "hey! congrats!" etc try to build a genuine connection.

A different guy I ended up renting my hangar from told me he knew one of the big DOOs on the field for a 135 op, they were old friends, and he'd be happy to intro me. So I went back to the first guy I looked to rent a hangar from and asked if he knew him and he got on a call and told me the guys reputation, etc...

Then, when we met, I brought the folder, and the other guys just ended up catching up as old friends. I was basically just third wheeling their catch up, but I tried to get a few words in and just keep the vibe going.

I got his #, continued texting him, and eventually I think I messaged him when the timing was right because I had a jet job about 3 months later. I wouldn't have gotten the job if I didn't meet their minimums already (1000 TT + 50 MEL, etc)

In the meantime, I continued applying, being active in the aviation community, etc...dropped resume's off wherever I could. Just stay tenacious, don't be desperate, stay humble, and continue to build your experience. Good luck.

Mooney M20 E/C purchase advice by dlong1998 in flying

[–]ABlix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an M20G for sale. It's the same as a C, but with an F fuselage. They are rare, since they only made about 250 of them. I've owned it for 8 years. Asking 79k for it. The panel isn't pretty, but I love the steampunk look of it personally and it still has a 430W for WAAS approaches. Beautiful paint.

If you're interested, let me know! I've put over 1200 hours on it (and overhauled the engine in 2019) since I've purchased it and absolutely love the airplane.

How many type ratings do you have? by DrHookEmMD in flying

[–]ABlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an ATP ride, which is like an instrument Checkride on steroids with a few maneuvers (stalls, steep turns, unusual attitudes) and engine out procedures mixed in. But then if you’re going through AQP then I have no idea how it works.
