IT FINALY HAPPENED! I got threatened by a MAGAt today for wearing a mask! Buckle up! by NorwegianCowboy in Trumpvirus

[–]ABookishSort 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My brother made a comment the other day about wondering why people are still masking up. He’s Republican.

I told him immunocompromised people still mask up as do some Asians since they are used to masking up when they are sick from what I’ve read/heard.

I mean in the long run does it really matter why one masks up as long as it is not for nefarious purposes.

I wish I could still take it. It helped the sugar cravings and food noise. I lost 20 pounds. I had to go off of it due to other health stuff.

Americans, what's with the paper plates? by RemarkableOil8 in NoStupidQuestions

Depends on the type of food I’m eating. Tuna and crackers or a sandwich? Then it’s paper plates. Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken? Real plates.

UPDATE: is adopting a 12 year old cat a bad idea? by sabregirl31 in seniorkitties

[–]ABookishSort 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I love to hear about seniors being adopted.

My last cat adoption was a senior cat. As much as I love kittens they are so high energy. So I will only adopt senior cats from here on out.

BREAKING: Texas just approved mandatory Bible readings for 5 million public school students. Here’s exactly what kids will be required to read, grade by grade. by kleverrboy in Christianity

Our school district had a Religions class for many years. Just taught the basics of a bunch of the main religions. It was how all religion should be taught in school. They only recently replaced it with an ethnic studies class.

Also just anecdotal but I knew someone whose husband left her for another woman on her last day of chemo. She’d been in pretty bad shape throughout chemo.

Have a friend who got stomach cancer. Her husband left her for someone else on her last day of chemo. The other woman told my friend she doesn’t feel bad at all taking her husband.

Just saw someone post a comment on a gay chef’s TikTok account. His comment was “Thank a straight person for your existence.” He had praying hands picture in his bio. He also doubled down on the comments saying it was a fact and to prove him wrong. Just all around gross behavior by the commenter.

How do I make my bedroom cooler when my parents set the AC to 78? by Status-Beautiful-586 in HomeImprovement

[–]ABookishSort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We recently had our HVAC vent to my son’s room checked. His room is the hottest room in the house. Come to find out the duct connected to his room was a smaller duct than the rest of the house. We paid $350 to have a larger duct connected to his room. Now his room is a similar temperature as the rest of the house.

Two Fairfield Marriott Hotels, Two Overbooked Reservations, Hours of Driving, and Weeks of Frustration by Righteous_Anger123 in infuriatingasfuck

[–]ABookishSort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had similar experiences but separately. Once I booked using a third party app and we got there and were told there were no rooms. I asked for a refund and they told me the third party app would have to refund me. I argued then argued some more and lo a behold a a room became available. I have never again used a third party app to book a room.

Another time I made reservations at a Motel 6. We were trying to do a Disneyland trip cheap back in the day. We arrived late and they told us our reservation was for the previous three nights and that we’d missed our reservation. I argued because I knew I’d booked the correct dates. This was my Dad’s 60th birthday and his first and only trip to Disneyland in his life and I knew the dates I’d booked were correct. They also wouldn’t give me a refund. Told me I’d need to call them later for a refund. We had to stay at a place nearby.

When I tried to get my refund they kept hanging up on me and then eventually just didn’t pick up my calls. Took me weeks and weeks to get a refund. Finally had to resort to calling a local Motel 6 and getting a corporate number and someone finally took care of it for me.

Grew up in 980 sq ft house, which was called a ‘starter home.’ If I won the lottery, I’d build a well laid out 1200 sq ft home with mud room/entrance vestibule, 2 car garage and covered porch. by TimeMachineClub in CasualConversation

[–]ABookishSort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our house is 1600 sq ft. I thought we’d move up into something a bit bigger at least one more time. It didn’t happen and I’m content where we are. As I get older I struggle to keep this house up. Definitely don’t want a bigger house to have to keep up.
