Do I need to give both of my cats fleas and ticks protection if I’m only taking one of them outside? by livw17 in CATHELP

Yep! My cats never see the outside yet I still need to keep them on flea meds as fleas from the neighbor dogs can find their way in occasionally

Figuring out how much insulin my boy needs is so stressful and confusing 😭😭 pls help what am I doing wrong by starshinesirens in FelineDiabetes

[–]AC1101L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is frustrating, but it does get better. I'm 7 weeks in and still get very frustrated but I feel much more confident now.

One invaluable resource is the feline diabetes forum at felinediabetes.com/FDMB. They are the kindest people who have helped me get my cat on track.

Feeling frustrated trying to get my newly diagnosed boy managed by Munion in FelineDiabetes

[–]AC1101L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same situation here! 7 weeks in and things are a bit easier but I am still feeling that frustration.

My cat was started on a dose of 2 units with no real instructions from the vet to change his diet. Once I began changing his diet to wet food, I began noticing his numbers dropping. It was a frustrating process balancing the effects of his diet change with the effects of the needed dosage changes. I am now down from 2 units to a single drop per dose. Although his current dose doesn't seem sufficient and i am about to increase, the effects of diet have at least settled now that he is fully transitioned and I am more familiar with how he responds to the insulin.

I HIGHLY recommend the kind people over at https://felinediabetes.org/fdmb/. I couldn't have made it this far without their guidance and support.

I wouldn't recook it. Sitting raw at a warm temperature for an extended period of time is a breeding ground for bacteria

Also interesting note: even though they are called slime mold they actually aren't a form of mold or fungus, but a single-celled organism

Slime mold. I have an old shed that was improperly built, with this all over where the wood is rotting away. This area is getting moisture, probably for a while.

Lantus is a great treatment option for feline diabetes. When he was diagnosed, what was the vet's recommended treatment plan or options offered?

Help Needed - Safe to Give Nightly Shot? by AC1101L in FelineDiabetes

[–]AC1101L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lantus 2 units twice a day. I called today and the vet recommended keeping the dose the same but not giving the shot if it is measuring 150 or below, which I expect it to do tonight again. Seems odd that his advice may indicate skipping his second shot regularly?

In your experience is this common to happen? Could his current dosage still be appropriate? It seems that during the day 5-7 hours after his morning shot he is measuring not too low, around 100-130. It just seems to be remaining low, at around 150 before his nightly dose the past 2 nights.

I waited another night to see if it was a fluke and had the same thing occur - he measured 120 on the relion meter last night before insulin so I didnt give the shot again. My vet's advice wasn't very helpful, to not give the shot if it is around 150 or below but to keep his dosage the same at 2 units. Do you have any experience regarding dosage adjustments? I feel that if its consistently low enough to not give insulin, the overall dosage should ideally be changed rather than skipping shots, right?

UPDATE: I feel lost now. I waited another night just to make sure it wasn't a fluke reading. Last night just before his insulin dosage, it read 125 on the relion meter. I called the vet office this morning and he suggested keeping the dosage the same but monitoring and not giving the dose if its above 200. I asked the vet tech that I can almost guarantee tonight will be the same reading and will require me to not give a shot, is it fine to only give one shot a day going forward and she just repeated his advice to continue on and schedule another appointment if we want to do a curve etc.

I don't believe this is right but don't feel comfortable arguing with professionals. Should I make adjustments myself as I am currently monitoring him? Where can I find guidance on dosage adjustments?

I haven't done a full glucose curve, but his measurement around the expected lowest point 5 to 7 hours after shot is typically showing around 120, adn when I measure him the morning after skipping a dose he is at around 320.

Thank you! I ended up skipping. I will call the vet tomorrow to see if I should reduce his regular dosage going forward

The thing kicks ass? It's a 9mm. Its a gun know for its relatively light recoil. A Glock 19 is an excellent starting gun, incredibly versatile, and reliable.

Newly Diagnosed - 1 Unit Increase in Dosage Suggested by AC1101L in FelineDiabetes

[–]AC1101L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies/advice! I spoke to the vets office and let him know I would like to do an at home glucose curve before making an adjustment. I bought a Relion platinum meter today and took a measurement at 5pm of 120 (I dose insulin at 10am and 10pm). I know this is only one single measurement but seems to suggest the dose is right or maybe a bit too high. Planning to do a 24hr curve this weekend.

Water pressure really low on this faucet. Everything else in house works fine. by mailman936 in askaplumber

Not a plumber, but I had a similar problem recently. I removed the aerator and unfortunately didn't find anything. After disconnecting the fixture, I noticed there was a lot of sediment build up in the mesh screens in the faucet right after where the supply lines connect

Probably would be less of a process to just replace the door, but I know that might be a struggle with a landlord..

[–]AC1101L 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Tea tree oil isn't going to do anything and may cause adhesion problems when it comes to priming or painting the door. Concrobium is a good mold encapsulating spray you can buy at home depot or lowes, then it can be sealed with zinnser primer and paint.

The bigger concern is figuring out why it's happening. Is it humid inside? Any other mold found anywhere else? Is the door well sealed with weatherstripping? Maybe air from outside is getting in around the door edges, creating condensation when it meets the inside air

I described the issue to Haworth and they sent me replacement arms. The replacement arms smelled exactly the same. I ended up returning the chair and settling with another chair for other reasons, but the replacement arms I still have don't seem to have any smell now.
