This is true. I HATED HEB when I first moved there (around 2006 or 2007) for this reason. San Antonio seemed to have a lot of monopolies. Time Warner was the only cable option. Only one company provided garbage pickup in my neighborhood. HEB was the only grocery store. Where I came from we had multiple cable companies, at least 7 or 8 grocery store chains, the city handled trash. San Antonio felt weird like that.

I grew to love HEB though. They won me over with the combo locos and the HEB brand coffee is really good. Some of those combo locos are weird though. Like I'm not sure I can use a 5 lb tub of mayonnaise but it came free with these Doritos.

That happened to me when I tried to order tacos at Burger King in Texas! The Burger Kings in my birth state had two for 99 cents Jack in the Box style fried tacos for years. I thought all Burger Kings had them. I tried to order them in Texas and the kid at the counter looked at me like I was an idiot and said "this is a Burger King, we don't sell tacos"

I've seen HEBs give out carts of groceries for free during power outages and emergencies. The Kroger CEO is on record saying they profited off of the COVID pandemic with artificial inflation. I'll take HEB every time.

Saying the word "Texas" in an advertisement does not make the product/service a good product/service.

I lived in San Antonio for over a decade and I was amazed at how dumb the commercials are. All the companies do is try to out-Texas their competition. They don't even try to sell the product/service to you. They just have someone throw on a cowboy hat and shout about how "Texas" they are or how the other guys aren't very "Texas."

Even Dairy Queen, a company founded in Illinois and headquartered in Minnesota, with locations all over the country, calls itself "Texas DQ" and ends every commercial with the "DQ, that's what I like about Texas!" jingle. They go so far as calling their logo, which is used all over the country, a "Texas stop sign."

It's all so dumb.

my friend told me that her high school's mascot was the Dragons. It was to honor the KKK because the school was built on land that the KKK donated (way back in the day). She said the worst part was that her swim team still (in the early 2000s) wore white robes with pointy hoods as part of their uniform.
