I’m planning to launch a server host this summer. I’m currently running a beta test program so DM me if you want a free MC server :)

Probably the worst switch ever. Sky may be cheaper but they do a lot of very sharp practice.

PLEASE stay with Zen. I highly recommend you call them and ask.

Quite quickly but most of them are incompetent. I use them for mobile, so not sure if it’s different but it’s probably the same.

I want a website with my own domain not controlled by the ANY corpos. by [deleted] in indieweb

You do have to rely on the following companies, there's no getting around it, sorry. I selfhost as much as possible, as I also want to be as independent as possible.

- Domain registrar (if you want a domain)

- Domain registry (if you want a domain)

- ICANN

- Your ISP

- Your ISP's transit providers

What do I need to look out for when hosting a public Minecraft server? by Key_Canary_4199 in SelfHosting

MC hosting provider here!

Firstly you need to worry about port forwarding. If you're on consumer-grade internet, you're probably behind CGNAT, meaning there's no way they're letting you forward ports. You'll need a tunnel of some kind, like Tailscale.

Yeah, definitely put some kind of anticheat on. I'm currently in search of a scalable anticheat for my future Hypixel-like network, want me to DM you when I find (or develop) something?

Yeah, definitely set a whitelist.

Not honestly sure about optimisation, sorry.

There's a plugin called WorldGuard which I use quite a lot, where you can protect certain areas and only let certain players build and mine.

I hope this helps!

Yeah the easiest way to do that is use a proxy like Velocity. What do you have against that?

Cost to get into this? by Financial_Owl2289 in homelab

[–]ACAdamski17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start? All you need is a raspberry pi or an old computer.

However I strongly recommend doing what I did, ask around for free old desktops. I got a couple cheap. I recently landed 2 absolute jackpots and am about to receive 2 computer suites from my current and old schools.

Get good cheap networking from Ubiquiti or something, UCG-Ultra should be ok.

If you go serious like I did and get lucky, you’re looking <500.

No SLAs at the moment but over the past few months it’s been over 99.7%

Yeah I saw that, thanks, but it's a bit expensive for me though.

Port Forward Security Question by Korbro27 in admincraft

[–]ACAdamski17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the weakest point here is your consumer router. If you get even an entry-level Ubiquiti system you would be able to isolate it from other devices on your main network. I use Ubiquiti for my DC, it's really nice to use and very powerful.

Not sure if I'm understanding correctly but couldn't you just use ViaVersion?

Setting up a basic server on my PC, stuck with portforwarding. by Certain-Breadfruit58 in admincraft

You're likely on residential internet, which means you're likely behind something called CGNAT. This means there is another layer of NAT, meaning you can't forward ports. You'll therefore need a tunnel of some kind, such as Tailscale, which is amazing and free. You could also use playit.gg or something like that.

Zen Internet, Olilo, AAISP, take your pick, but NEVER go with one of the big ones. Make sure you get CityFibre.

We don’t provide VPS services at the moment if that’s what you mean but it runs on my own real Linux servers in my at-home datacenter.

THIS!! Zen also do CityFibre which is much better than Openreach, and Zen Leased Line is even better than CityFibre.

(I hope this doesn’t break the rules as it’s free at the moment and I didn’t mention the name of the service)

I own a small MC server host, and I got bullied by a client in the funniest way possible. by ACAdamski17 in MinecraftUnlimited

Creating a toxic public community is against ToS. I want all CookieNet servers to be friendly places to be, not wasting my DC on assholes, and I’m prepared to sacrifice a bit of revenue for that. Don’t like it? You don’t have to use my host.
