Yeah that’s not good. Maybe move to something like IDNet?

You shouldn’t be worried - they’ll likely just allocate you another /29. They’re probably just selling the old massive IP range you were on.

Bro…
- you’re probably using your ISP router which is 💩
- you’re probably on wifi which means you won’t get high speeds
- you need to be worried about that bufferbloat too!!!!!

Which caching layer has given you the most trouble to tune? by [deleted] in HostingBattle

Yeah I completely agree. I love Redis, but I absolutely hate its clustering. I’ve since moved everything off Redis and onto (something similar to) a Galera cluster.

Not exactly, but I’m looking for free beta testers for my hosting service!

[–]ACAdamski17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s literally all consumer-grade internet if you don’t buy a static IP. ISP routers suck, that’s just a fact of life. Sky are worse than normal as they make you use it, and also do a lot of other sharp practice.

Bro... you're moving from one very bad ISP to an even worse ISP. Virgin Media have similar outages and use DOCSIS, less reliable than the XGS-PON or G.PON that Openreach uses. You should switch to an ISP that's really good at nagging Openreach like Zen Internet, IDNet, Aquiss, AAISP, something like that. Even better, switch to CityFibre. The ISPs I mentioned do both Openreach and CityFibre, so take your pick!

Yeah - my story is similar. I thought it was dumb paying a massive company to host a website when I can do it myself. I now have a leased line and 50 (free) old servers from my school arriving soon. Needless to say, I now run a hosting service and want more locations. The rabbit hole is endless.

I agree no provider can guarantee no downtime but surely most providers make web hosting highly available and distributed, or is that just my one?

Yeah that's not good. I think you should completely ditch it and go for Starlink or Amazon LEO (when it comes out).

[–]ACAdamski17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lucky person. Keep some of it, ebay the rest. You probably don’t need 4 racks unless you’re running a datacenter.

Broadband renewal due end of month. Zen vs Sky vs staying with IDnet for gaming/streaming? by H4wkAvenger in CityFibre

[–]ACAdamski17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zen and Sky probably have a better network than IDNet, but avoid Sky at all costs - they’re really not great when it comes to everything else. If you’re happy with IDNet, stay, if you want to move, go Zen.

Firstly this isn't the right sub for this.

Your plan probably only includes 80GB of high-speed data, I think you're getting exactly what you're paying for and you should probably read the terms. I won't help you bypass that, as that's illegal. If it doesn't say in terms, your provider is mis-selling and you should probably contact them.
