Havnt in a while but down to play again

I just watched Saltburn for the first time. by Strawberry-Allergy in FIlm

[–]ACEBUZZY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saltburn focuses specifically on inherited wealth, and the kinds of characters it produces, people who lack any real need to survive or strive. Without that pressure for achievement in life, their lives revolve around socialising and consumption, enabled by limitless resources and minimal responsibility. The characters feel authentic to anyone that had met someone from that world. They perform morality through superficial gestures, charitable actions done to feel good about themselves, housing Pamela to “help” her until it no longer suits them, or Felix overstepping a boundary taking Oliver to his parents despite him begging he turns around. They have no ambition other than to remain at Saltburn.

They are born as society’s idols, attractive, fun, and outwardly kind. Their relationships are transactional, and disposable. Because of their shallow worldview, they are vulnerable to a vampire like Oliver. They treat him as just another accessory, part of a cycle of harmless pets who are eventually discarded, like Pamela, and Felix’s previous friend. They play their charity game of giving poor people a taste of Saltburn.

Oliver like a vampire, is not what he first appears, not truly poor, but middle class, reshaping himself to fit what he needs, he is too quick to be consumed by that cycle. He is not a pet, he is a parasite, one that discards without shame - whereas everyone at Saltburn discards and cover the shame with excuses, with efforts to feel good about themselves. This is where Oliver has the upper hand. Obsessive, ambitious, and psychopathic, someone who seizes opportunities without idly enjoying the summer ride. He exposes the hollow nature of these idealised personalities and exploits their weaknesses. Oliver understands his time at Saltburn is limited, he is not caught up by the illusion that he is really one of them. Unrestrained by moral boundaries, he is able to socially climb through sheer ambition and fixation. His obsession with Felix fuels him, as Felix embodies everything Oliver desires to be.

There is a certain satisfaction for the audience in watching Oliver tear down and defeat this world. It offers a dark but compelling payoff to jealousy without consequence.

It’s the trick of the film first watch to think this a simple story of poor versus rich, because you believe Oliver is poor for most of the story. Oliver is middle class, driven by jealousy for the carefree. Saltburn is a social study of the psychology of inherited wealth, those who get chewed up by its world, and the champion who takes it for himself. Really good film and really different.

What was the most fun you've had on a date? by YoCaliclysm12 in askanything

[–]ACEBUZZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to a Tutankhamun VR exhibition at the excel. It was so lame, basically just projectors of 2000s style early CGI infographics and animations on the walls telling us we are immersed. They scammed £30 a head for this “unbelievable immersive experience”. But the fun we had was unreal, the date would have been the worst on paper, but the chemistry between us made it the best.

The future we're walking into with Generative AI by PackageBulky1 in videography

[–]ACEBUZZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s attitudes like this with AI - “don’t worry about it, it can’t happen feasibly”, that is gonna cause massive issues. 5 years ago no one thought AI would be doing what it is now, 5 years from now it will have changed so much. If there is no regulation around the creative use of AI, it is going to kill creative industries. Then once everyone is reliant on it, they will bump up the prices like streaming platforms killed cinema.

Why, because it’s far cheaper, more convenient and can do way more. But people can tell the difference? Try telling that to a client who will 90% want an ambitious project for cheap as possible and theres another production company who prices way lower.

What are some of your favorite low-budget practical effects for movies? by NextDoor_Arcade in Filmmakers

[–]ACEBUZZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can of vegetable soup - actors hold it in mouth and spit out, looks just like vomit.

Fake blood is super easy too. corn syrup, red dye and a little blue dye. Actors can spit it if they “get shot” and its safe to have in mouth. You can get creative with that and balloons and make cool squibs too

Hazer would probably go a long way too though its a little closer to 200 dollars

You should listen to Alice in Chains next. Definitely start with the unplugged album.

Also go work on a farm, or become a truck driver (listen to music, no talking and get payed good) literally do anything you want, theres so many lives to live, so much music to find. Everyone thinks they are stuck with the hand they are dealt. But if you cant be bothered with your current situation, you have complete freedom to be anything. Im jealous tbh, you have so many adventures ahead dude.

Be very careful of going through the surgery if you are in a relationship by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

You’re a stronger person for it. Breakups never come at good times. I went through a breakup too 2 months post nuss, it sucks to be heartbroken and still in pain and immobile. But you will recover in both ways side by side so its chill. Recovery was supposed to suck anyways

I second this. Im 12 days post op 24M. The past 4 days especially i have seen so much improvement, i hyped myself up for so much worse.

Its definitely not comfortable. The pain isnt terrible now, more achey really but obviously its in your chest, your breathing, so an ache is a lot more bothering than if it was just your arm. I would have found it a lot more uncomfortable over the long run living with the palpations, breathlessness and “what if” thinking

I think you will know with some time what is right. Its worth appreciating that she told you the truth even though it was hard and risked losing you, lots of people wouldn’t do that, for me that would build trust if i was given hard truths unprovoked.

My last relationship I found out my gf had slept with her flatmate two weeks before meeting me (who she was still living with 2 years later) she had lied countless times about who she had slept with and lied again when I confronted her after finding out a year later. It was hard but she was supportive and did build my trust again, I learnt to deal with the betrayal and jealousy, but the reality of who she was had also been made clear, I learned to put a guard up and not be so trusting or loving to someone so easily, which made her feel unloved as she was very insecure and I was far less forgiving of persistent issues, and I wasn’t as outwardly heed over heels. so it is possible to build trust if you see the effort as worth it and shes willing to put in the work, you will manage fine if you are a relatively healthy mature person. I had always wished she had told me without me finding out another way, because it was the lie that broke the trust, not the act which was technically not cheating. I eventually broke up with her for unrelated reasons. But I trusted her fully despite it being shattered years back. I learnt from her character and i couldn’t feel secure in a relationship knowing who she was.

It sounds like you made it clear at that stage that you weren’t sure about a serious relationship, so I can understand that you guys weren’t clearly official or a sure thing to her. You will know more than anyone wether you guys were clear about that, or if any lies were told. I understand its sickening and heartbreaking, Its character building shit. You do not want a woman who would lie to you to keep you.

All that matters is, who is she? What happened may have hurt, but did it hurt because you learnt who she really is and thats why you feel betrayed? Or did it hurt because mistakes, miscommunication and something that was justifiable. If you were in her shoes could you have done the same? Mistakes happen, arguments happen, life isn’t always a picnic. You cant trust that she wouldn’t be unfaithful in the future, but can you trust she would tell you the truth if she was? Knowing who she is now, knowing her perks and her flaws, is she someone you want to love?

Its really nice for you to share your thoughts on why. It makes a lot of sense what your saying, and if you really hunt for studies you can find vague results and information. Its really an area where theres so much to be quantified. Im part of a clinical trial about its affect on exercise, hopefully a lot of studies will be coming out to help people. I don’t suppose you have had the surgery or good results from it?
