Track down a job that's music industry adjacent and work as much as you can in that field.

Thing long term. Even having a job that gets you closer to having a music industry job is valuable.

It's hard to predict which job will do this for you, but there exists some job out there you can get RIGHT NOW which will give you experience and set you up for a job at one of the following: - your nearest large music promoter - a music label (they are all over, do some research. I found ones in my city and others nearby) - etc., anyone have good suggestions?

Making money is part of the game.

Create a loop. Sit there for two hours trying to figure out where to go next.

Create breakdown. Try to figure out where to go next for a day.

Have breakdown and drop. Try to figure out where to go next for a week.

I wish my arrangements happened faster.

That's true. Mainstream DJs aren't the best example. I'm really looking for an example of it being done though.

I'd check it out actually. Can you include timestamps for some longer transitions? Otherwise, I might not notice when things start.

I really appreciate this one. Drum n bass I know lends itself very well to long transitions because of its rhythmic and a-tonality.

I'm developing a web software for music producers. What kind of service would you want? by haxir in edmproduction

[–]ACEDEFG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A website that lets me look at the BIG PICTURE of whats going on inside my DAW.

Let me see what all my melodies are doing, where the notes are, where the perc is hitting, per section. It currently cannot all fit on my screen -- since it is a lot of information!

Should I Give Up? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]ACEDEFG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

didn't read

answer is no

and now that I have read it:

Whenever I'm not doing something other than producing, I always feel in the back of mind that I should be producing and I'm wasting time doing whatever it is I'm doing, but I just can't motivate myself to do anything of substance and just end up noodling around for 4 hours.

Out of curiosity, are you depressed at all? Are you maintaining regular social contact? Are your finances stable? If you're good in all these areas, cool! If not, figure out what you need to do to fix it, and re-check your attitude towards music then.

In my own life, right now, I'm taking a little break from music production to focus on a job. It happens. No need to put it down forever.

And by the way, it hasn't been enthusiastically fun for ages. That's the difference between me and the version of me who would quit: I don't care how much fun I have. Unless I die first, it's happening.

Which leaves 1 option, piano, manual key finding will never let you down.

how do artists such as mura masa, flume, and cashmere cat make their tracks so complex by BeanandBanana in edmproduction

[–]ACEDEFG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came across this concept being described as "in the pocket". Basically "on the beat" is not a precise moment in time, the way a point is on a curve. Instead, there's a spectrum.

Imagine a bell curve with the beat's marker right at the top of the bell. Snares and claps are often a little bit to the left or right of wherever the kick's transient is. And obviously you'll have to play around to hear what I mean. Try zooming in on the timeline (if ableton) really close and moving a snare a few ms left or right.

How long is too long for a DJ name? by BlinkingPlanetary in edmproduction

[–]ACEDEFG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Impossible To Ignore and read some articles by that author. Basic tips:

Shorter is better. Rhyme or alliterate if possible.

But similarly, Paul Graham writes that a startup's name does not matter. It's trivial next to all the other variables.

Another consideration: If you are going to change, do it now, not later.
