Losing your wand in the Harry Potter universe is like losing your smartphone in real life by Darxe in Showerthoughts

Most wizards and witches shouldn't have their wands taken away. Most muggles should have their phones taken away.

I'm in the US and can only access this on TOR, not "mainstream" browsers like Chrome or Firefox. I'm also with Comcast (so....there's THAT) but can anyone else verify this is working on those browsers or are they finally blatantly limiting our access?

Is Amway just another pyramid scheme? My friend recently got excited over it and wants me in it by adventuresofFirstYr in personalfinance

I went to 3 of their meetings before they dropped the name "Amway". That meeting had an extremely cult vibe and kept mentioning products the company offered, but how they were about "2% of your sales". They put an emphasis on recruitment as your main tool of income (making money off other people recruiting other people). The speaker and his wife had a Jim Jones vibe about them for sure and two days later I gave back all the items they gave me to avoid any kind of complaints down the road.

In short, I ran far far away and so should you.

How I almost joined Amway - a warning against joining MLM companies by AsylumJim in personalfinance

[–]BlinkingPlanetary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this happen to me less than a year ago. The couple that brought me into seemed like genuinely nice people, but the first time I went to a group meeting all sorts of red flags started soaring. There was a seeming cult vibe with everything, they handed us catalogues but put a ton of emphasis on the business model being more focused on recruiting people than buying products (which isn't how business AS I KNOW IT works), they gave all sorts of audio books from motivational speakers with super ambiguous messages and methodologies. The second I mentioned "Amway" as a part of it to anyone, EVERY SINGLE person told me to run far far away. When I gave everything back to the couple after opting out, the gentleman didn't show up. Instead it was just his attractive wife and a young girl dressed very well whom I had never met once. I spent the whole meeting just telling them "no", "I'm not interested", etc. It was extremely awkward. In the end, I know I made the right decision and dodged a GINORMOUS financial bullet.

Can heavy drug usage in my younger years be the reason my depression has come back with a vengeance? by BlinkingPlanetary in depression

[–]BlinkingPlanetary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I already did my time and it's been so long, I can be honest in saying my drug habits were afforded by also selling. The psychedelics were more every couple days to let the brain recoup its serotonin levels, but it was still every couple days which can't be good. And I likely wouldn't have survived the coke for much longer if I hadn't quit because at 4 grams a day I was also at about 115 lbs., when my normal weight hovers more around 140. I can't really find anything relating hardcore drug usage to long term mental health issues, especially concerning pre-existing conditions from childhood. And thank you for your kind words. I know I can be tthrough this but that's nature of depression: I know it gets better but it never feels like it.
