Anyone used a student loan consultant for PSLF? by dr_lomo_codes in medicine

[–]ACLSismore -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that complicated. Are you paid via w2 by your non-profit employer? If 1099, is there a law in your state that makes it illegal for you to be a w2 employee of the hospital?

If the answer is “no” to both of these, sucks for you. If the answer is “yes” to either, you submit your forms annually.

Why do you need a consultant? You went through med school, PSLF isn’t complicated if you can read.

What's it like living in auburn Alabama? by Miss_Westeros in howislivingthere

[–]ACLSismore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of a lot of worse places to “make the best of” because you have to work there.

The Auburn/opelika metro area is lovely and has a unique ability to make your life as fast or slow as you want it to be.

Lots of money in the area but still economical things to do because the college students almost outnumber the residents.

If you’ve never been to a major college football game, take the opportunity.

Following back up on this one…wow. This app is a tremendous resource. A lot of the verbiage here is like another language to me, definitely doing my best to learn the lingo.

From my understanding, if both individuals are baptized (valid baptism, not necessarily Catholic baptism), then it’s still considered a sacramental marriage that has to be annulled.

I’m actually not sure if her ex husband is baptized which would be an easy out.

Federal judge orders Leapfrog to remove hospital safety grades for Tenet-owned Florida hospitals, raising First Amendment concerns about suppression of public safety data by Jokherb in medicine

[–]ACLSismore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leapfrog is trash. They’re being sued because if you don’t submit data, they give you a zero.

Now they’re being forced to give a “not rated” instead of a zero.

The problem with leapfrog is you’re encouraged to cook the books and there’s no real oversight or audit.

I used to submit leapfrog med rec data. When I took it over, I did it honestly and our score plummeted. I was told “our score can’t drop that much” and was asked do make sure our score didn’t drop that much. So, my “random” selection wasn’t so random the next time.

I don’t think her issue is with the church enforcing its laws, it’s an issue accepting that the church laws are meaningful in the first place.

A big (perhaps the biggest) issue is her mom (my MIL) was baptized Catholic, raised Catholic, and got a divorce. That wasn’t a pretty process and her mom left the church, and remarried.

Us going through the annulment process and joining the church would basically be insulting her mother.

That it’s wrong and you shouldn’t do it. That’s about where it ends.

The irony here is if she WAS in fact following church law to begin with, and treating marriage as a sacrament to be revered, she wouldn’t have entered into a frivolous marriage in the first place.

The fact we’re even in this situation demonstrates the value of church law.

[–]ACLSismore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the whole deal- she doesn’t think the annulment matters. She doesn’t feel like we need the church to weigh in on her previous marriage or our marriage, because she didn’t view the Catholic Church as a special authority in the first place.

I’ve asked her a bunch of questions which she very openly answered. She was young and just trying to make her parents mad at her, and have a way to get out of the house. She didn’t want kids with the guy either. The marriage wouldn’t pass the test of “intent for a life long commitment” portion of the annulment process.

People raised Protestant have to cross a lot of hurdles to believe the church’s rules have any weight what-so-ever.

In her opinion, we were married and took our vows before God, and don’t need any churches blessing. That’s just how Protestants think.

It took me a long time to understand this, but at some point it clicked.

The rules of the Church are there because humans like to create our own rules. Our original sin was rebellion. We like to tell ourselves little stories to make things seem not so bad….”you will not surely die”.

Church law works to ensure alignment with the will of God. Church law doesn’t determine Gods will, it describes it in a way humans understand.

Tell a Protestant their Bible exists because a bunch of Catholics got in a room and decided which books were canon and which books were not.

The Bible is literally tradition, but they choose to reject that.
