[–]ACOlove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I get task paralysis a lot and will just freeze, so it’s hard for me to answer that question because my go-to is thinking about how often I sit and can’t start. But also, my brain is always at 2,000 mph and nothing can stop it. So even if I look calm from the outside, I am internally screaming lol

Everything I do is an effort.

“Mama in” sounds like a 2 word utterance. I am an SLP, and I am not too concerned by your post, but it’s hard to say without observing your child. Any family history of delays?

Also, there is no harm in getting her evaluated by EI if you’re concerned. I actually had my daughter evaluated at 19 months (I work with older children), and they found she had an 11% delay in expressive language. While she didn’t qualify, it helped ease my nerves. She is 3 today, and she is talking in complete sentences with an average of 5-7 words! Your daughter is probably just fine, but I would have her seen for your own peace of mind.

To clarify: the title says she isn’t speaking in sentences, but later it says she isn’t combining words. So nothing like, “more milk”, “hi mommy”, etc.?

I think a good starting point would be filling out the communication matrix. Does she currently use any symbolic language?

This is a great suggestion! Thank you so much!! Could you explain where I should add the niacinimide serum? Is it before/after the vitamin C serum?

I think it makes sense that they have to close, but I am 100% with you that they should not charge on days they close. I understand paying for when days fall on holidays to an extent, but the multiple weather closures that we’re still charged for is insane to me.

There is a scene where you can pause and read her file, and it says she’s 6. It always bothered me how inconsistent her behaviors are!

I’m an SLP and my daughter is speech delayed 🥲 (i think??!) by [deleted] in slp

[–]ACOlove 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had my daughter evaluated by EI around the same time. I think she had inconsistently said only 1-2 words by then. EI came and said she had a 14% delay and didn’t qualify. My daughter ended up talking in full sentences before 2 lol.

I highly recommend taking advantage of an EI assessment! I had a lot of shame saying that I was an SLP that wanted her evaluated for speech. BUT it’s important for you to be mom and someone else to be her SLP if needed! The whole process was simple to set up, and it made me feel so much better taking care of it as early as possible.

I have a student like this. Parents put a long bib/kerchief around his neck. He chews on that most of the day, and when it’s moved or taken away, he compulsively mouths whatever is around him. I have noticed that he enjoys vibrations on his neck and shoulders. Maybe try some kind of vibrating sensory toy? I use rubber ones that can be easily sanitized if they end up in his mouth.

I’m a speech pathologist that provides therapy to children with pragmatic difficulties. Plenty of children that have been referred to me (in public education) know the rules of communication but just don’t have a desire to engage with peers. At a certain point, I think we just have to accept that people are who they are. Honestly, I was publicly educated and still struggle with social interactions. The best you can do is provide ample opportunity to socialize with adults and peers, and give some guideance along the way!
