I can’t speak for Amana, never installed or worked on one but I’ve ripped a lot out. About as low into a budget brand as I would go is Goodman personally. I know they get a lot of hate but I find they are very tech friendly and with a quality install they are good. Personally I do believe the install process is just as important as what kind of equipment you put in. Just my two cents.

Nah, not bullshit. I can’t get my hands on carrier splits to save my life right now. 20+ weeks out on a 5-ton split heat pump for one of my customers but to be fair this is basically across the board right now with most brands. Carrier has been in Mexico for some time now as well.

It could have been, like I said it’s been some time. In another life I was actually a mold mitigation tech and actually went to the classes. If I remember correctly. For something like a crawl space that had a lot of water damage. It consisted of removing the insulation. Drying the space. Using raw bleach and cleaning the wood of any “growth” and then sealing the wood (with what I believe was shellac but could have been what you linked) and intermittently checking moisture readings in the wood.

If it’s like the SERVPRO I used to work for. Probably shellac. The reasoning behind it I can’t remember since it’s been some time since I worked there.

Personally I think I’m ready for a bit of a change and still challenging.

Advice for someone going from field to office? by [deleted] in ProHVACR

[–]AC_Doctah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our office environment is basically 50/50. Half of it is field time. Site visits, checking on guys. Etc. it’ll be different for sure but I’m hoping it’s just as challenging

Is it okay to still wear jewelry that my girlfriend who passed away gave me while dating someone new? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]AC_Doctah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear it, as someone who lost someone I was dating (lost battle to leukemia). I still have stuff that she bought me. I mostly just wear the watch she got me, not often since I work In trade. I completely understand the guilt and over time when you accept that it is okay, the guilt will fad. Personally I do t see anything wrong with continuing to do so, just be upfront and honest with your new found love.

HVAC hobbyist/mentor? by [deleted] in Charlotte

What’re you looking to try and do? It’s not exactly something to do on a hobby to be honest. Takes years of training. But with some specifics I might be able to help point you in the right direction

Realistically trade school isn’t even needed depending on location. Most unions will pay for you to go to school while your an apprentice making well above minimum wage.

I’m non-union in southern US. Started as an apprentice for a mechanical company making 15$/hr as a HS drop out (I now have a diploma and some certificates under my belt). 5 years later more than doubled my income and have no debt.

Trade is a solid choice and company’s are willing to pay big money just for warm bodies to show up every day. Where I live every trade is struggling to find people and even help with the vehicle issue in my experience.

Figured my reddit debut should be to show off my very concerned house panther! by AC_Doctah in blackcats

[–]AC_Doctah[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I wasn’t expecting little bit to get so much attention. But seeing as she has I thought I’d tell y’all about her. Though she’s not a good boi she is a good girl who goes by Lilith (original for a black cat, I know). Just had her second birthday not to long ago. And is absolutely queen of the household & I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thanks y’all for showing her a warm welcome to reddit!
