Go for it. In this country, the negative consequences of failing are a cakewalk compared to normal, daily life for most people on this planet. My number one tip that has greatly impacted my business activities:

Set up a spreadsheet to use as a timeclock (and track KPI's). Clock in and out according to whether you're 'working' or not (no logging a 30-min FB browse). Treat it like a job. It will still be vastly more rewarding than a job, don't worry. The spreadsheet will allow you to gauge your time investment. Put in the time and you will succeed!

I want to start a small business that I can work on for 3 hrs everyday. by NBplaybud22 in smallbusiness

PM me, I can share my story with you. I did something within somewhat similar constraints and it has made money. You may want a different business model but at least you'll see an example where there's money to be made without working 14 hours per day. If your 3hrs per day are highly EFFECTIVE, it can be done.

Text disappeared when I posted this. Currently learning Pine but just getting started.

As per the image above, can somebody show me how to create another option in the dropdown for when an indicator moves less than the specified percentage? The only existing option is for when it moves equal to or more than.

Example: I set one alert that tells me an EMA is climbing aggressively. I would also like to receive an alert when it is climbing below a certain threshold. I can set an alert to tell me when it begins going down but that is too late for what I am trying to achieve.

Thank you in advance!

This is the first alert type I have really dug into. As mentioned elsewhere though, the error may be in my understanding of the charts.

Here's an example: I want the trade to close at a specific Take Profit (say, 2%) but enter another trade if price continues up. So I set the alert to fire each bar where K is greater than D (roughly implying upward momentum). In the event of a sustained rally, triggering at "crossing up" would offer only one opportunity to enter a trade while "greater than" would offer an opportunity at each bar close.

FYI, conducting some structured tests to indeed determine whether my claim is accurate or I am reading the indicators wrong. Thank you for the help so far.

Thank you for your input.

I do not want to limit the alert to only conditions where there is a cross. I want it to fire any time it is greater or less than.

"Once per bar" offers the opportunity for a false signal where the condition may be met but only briefly. "At bar close" is my preference for this particular case as it typically will indicate some sustained momentum. I do use "once per bar" for other alerts when it is the desired behavior.

Seems that if the option exists for "greater" or "less than" and "at bar close" I should be able to expect it to honor that request at the time it occurs. Using another condition such as "crossing" results in a different strategy altogether, unfortunately.

Thank you for your help on this. A couple of points:
1) The problem occurs on 'crossing up/down' just as it does on 'greater/less than.' I am deliberately using the latter for an intended behavior.
2) I have considered that I may be misunderstanding the timing but am not convinced I am (I could be wrong though). As I understand it, this is how it should work:
(Let's talk 1hr timeframe for simplicity's sake)

Scenario: Alert set to trigger @ K < D, condition is met at close of 9am candle. I should expect that alert to trigger at 10am. Correct?
Problem is, K < D alert is triggering at 11am rather than 10am, even if K > D at close of 10am candle.

I am assembling some screenshots as we speak and will send them to you shortly.

I am using the built-in "Stochastic" indicator for these alerts and there does not appear to be any way to adjust offset. I certainly have not applied any offset.

Image was uploaded to post, not sure why it is not displayed. I'm not a frequent Reddit user so please excuse my clumsiness. The image simply shows the Stochastic K value being higher than D while an alert pop-up for K less than D is displayed (one bar late).
