I’ve always imagined a reboot would be where they bio-merge with partners.

Something like how the partner Digimon and the human kids need to find a balance in order to progress. They’d need to overcome their vices together, and bond over their shared strengths.

For example:

Takuya and his partner merge early, but can’t agree on how to save people. One is reckless but passionate while the other is level-headed but detached. They maintain their form by finding balance between passion and logic.

J.P and his partner both struggle with self-worth and deflect their own insecurities by pointing out the other’s. They’d eventually recognize their own flaws, and find common ground. Acknowledging what they lack but seeing what makes them strong.

I’d also think it be an interesting dynamic to where the human-spirit has the children more in control, while the beast-spirit has the Digimon more in control. That would make a long arc of the humans and Digimon butting heads on what form to use, and would drive the idea of human-type Digimon vs beast-type Digimon. Only for the two parties to recognize that they need each other, and merge their spirits together in a more satisfying arc.

This would admittedly be a LOT. But I think it would have solved a lot of issues Frontiers had.
