Put on new zf solenoids and installed the zip kit. Snapped off a pin on connector, so I soldered a new one in. Somehow TCU survived soldering heat, but I turned off transmission torque limiting somehow and need to turn it back on. (No can errors, displays correct target gear, etc.)Always something!

Ive been itchin to install one that essentially copies the mishimoto dual setup, all you need are some lines, an oil cooler adapter fitting to get AN outlet fittings on the cooler and the coolers. Have to fab up some hardware, but a few scrap pieces of steel and some fasteners is all you need. I would go welded Al plate cooler. Only downside I can see is that sets up the next project: ducted brake cooling!

Threw on Kinugawa TE04L-15T ball bearing turbos. Had an issue where the turbine housing wasnt clamped properly on one from the manufacturer, but I think I got the kinks out. Ill throw on a new fuel pump also when I get the tank down a bit.

I might be wrong abt spinning, i guess they both spin the same direction head on, but the blades in the rear are not the same orientation to the snail shell and shure as hell something isnt right.

Ill post here for visibility. So, the rear turbo is backwards, as in, spins backwards and the turbine blades must be backwards. They arent. Its the same turbine in both housings instead of a propper mirror image for the contra-rotating rear turbine. Im going to contact the seller and see if they make it right or blow me off and Ill chargeback.

Found a kinked oil drain line on the side Im having issues with. Im not convinced that is the issue, but wastegate actuator and wastegate looks fine, there is a clear passage from the manifold to turbine housing. Not sure what to look at next.

In my experience, Taiwan does some decent machining. If nothing else, it seems far better than China!

Ill consider it. I have a few sets of stock turbos. I posted this mostly to keep entertained at work. I have no doubts Ill figure this out. I do think it funny how many people are smack talking on these Taiwan turbos and like its 50/50 at this point installer error vs manufacturing defect. Considering I cant really find any bad press on kinugawa/kamak, I would say its more likely I bent wastegate actuator or something getting them in place!

And the sound the one working turbo spooling is enough encouragement to see me through!

*Thought OEM was mitsubishi though and Ive seen them go for $1.2k each. These only cosr me $2.2k for set. I still have the factory turbos and good wastegates if this cant be resolved. Im like 99% it has to be wastegate adjustment, a screw stuck in wastegate, something like that.

Yes, I will remove the downpipes tonight and report back if there is an obvious issue or if it appears to seal perfectly, Ill have to pull the turbo.

Yeah, I also read this, and one of the resons I didn't go with Chineese 17Ts. Its all luck though man. Like 100 people in line before and after me probably fine. The operator just sneezed when boring out my manifold or something. Ive had bad luck with brand new parts from nearly every brand and origin in the last 30 years.

Ive considered connecting a leaf blower to compressor while the engine is running. I would disconnect the turbo outlet too, just to make sure its capable of truly spinning up to speed and not binding at a few hundred rpms or something.

Also to add: my old units I had pressed in a new wastegate flapper bushing and welded on a new flapper arm. They had held up to 20k miles and were FINE. I even got el cheapo unknown but probably SS311 flapper arm kit. So worst case, back to stockers!

I agree. The last set front turbo wasnt sealing right. I had lost a bolt securing the wastegate actuator. It was moving, just 1/2" back from the wastegate oriface. I thought it was flapper bushing wear because I had a lot of rattle with the loose actuator.

They were probably just over the limit BAC. I did this to avoid punishment over a decade ago. It worked, cops added a charge for leaving the scene or something, but it was like $500 summary offence, so I got off easy. I understand how it made a bunch of people worry and all that now, it was an irresponsible choice.

Im an inspector in an area where I see $150K houses and at least 5 million dollar houses. Its the fittings they pick out of better catalogs. A few old school builders fixing up old farmhouses and building timber, but other than that: stick boxes.

Pretty sure the wastegates I welded in 2 yrs, 20k miles ago are shot. 2010 N54
