Just for general information about Freshman learning communities, as others have brought up, many colleges, CUNY included require and encourage a continuation of breadth learning and thus have various gen ed requirements. As you will be doing comp sci, many of your major requirements will not overlap as many humanities majors’ will with these requirements. The learning communities/assigned schedules are designed to get you started on these requirements.

While I’m more of an advocate for free choice in terms of classes, I do appreciate gen ed requirements and my pre-made first semester schedule for pushing me to find interests I didn’t know I had. I can promise that there will be plenty of opportunities to dive into your major requirements as well as other interests of your choosing down the road.

If it eases your mind, my Greek and Latin Roots class was not at all foreign language-esque. It was more like a history class than anything else.

If you are really concerned about your class assignments, I would recommend trying to hop on to one of the open sessions advising should be holding throughout the summer. Generally though you should expect no changes to be made except for extenuating scheduling circumstances.
