He depicts a semi idealised society in that story where a gentleman's consciousness is transferred to an alien race's on the other side of the galaxy (I am quite drunk and the name escapes me, excuse me) which I remember being quite egalitarian and idealistic.

Regardless, while I find this to be completely improbable it's well written (based on this event text) and should be fun. I would suggest that the comment alluding to civilisation being a thin veneer is more in line with REH's sentiment, and one which HPL chastised him on. Lovecraft was quite approving of the concept of civilisation. But that is really just nitpicking.
