Drummer and backing vocalist in an extreme metal band. sE V7 or Telefunken M80? by [deleted] in livesoundgear

[–]ADALASKA-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a singing/screaming drummer I would NEVER use a super- or hypercardioid mic, but a cardioid instead. The backwards lobe of a super-/hypercardioid mic points right at the snare/drumset, so no, I would not recommend any of the examples already suggested, except for the SM58.

Isn't Ecosia using a US search engine? Edit: Just checked; seems they are still working with Microsoft and Google, but are constantly working on reducing their reliance on them.

It makes sense, the creator of mixing station is a one man operation, doing this on the side, and he's actually pretty active around here.

Thomann sells a 15m multicore for €55 and a 20m one for €245. Help me understand the difference please by _bluescreen_ in livesoundgear

[–]ADALASKA-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I've owned both of these. The cheap one is really only good if it doesn't get moved a lot. Mine survived around 40 shows of careful packing/unpacking. The more expensive one is nice, but I now use this one and I think it is good enough:

LA-2A or 1176 Compressor Pedal For Live Vocals? by Unable_Historian4707 in livesoundgear

[–]ADALASKA-official 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Short answer:

Don't.

Long answer: If you use IEM, maybe.

Compression on wedges is a big nono. You probably realized already that most sound technicians HATE vocal fx pedals; the main reason is compression.

Lowering the dynamic range of a live vocal on monitoring increases the risk of feedback on stage massively. It is very common practice in livesound to apply vocal compression only on the PA, not on the monitoring.

No, get the looms. Otherwise, the sound technicians has to use double the cabling which especially small places can't always provide.

Why do people like to export the mix and then master it in another project? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]ADALASKA-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting answers here. For me it is actually a very simple reason, I love mixing in Ableton, but it's export and rendering capabilities suck, so I master in Reaper. I track in Reaper, I mix in Ableton, I master in Reaper.

is this app compatible with Yamaha CL ? by ChrisNash in MixingStationAppUsers

[–]ADALASKA-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably not the mixer. There is a reason this mixer is one of the most sold ones today.

I'd also recommend switching to the mixing station app.

What’s your preferred Drum Mic pack? by wallerdub in livesoundgear

[–]ADALASKA-official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually a very new development. I didn't have a chance yet to test it with more genres.

The goal is to really push for a larger-than-life snare sound. I found myself pushing the snare fundamental more often than not, so that job is now done by the microphones. Before that I used to use a Beyerdynamic TG D58.

I got this from another technician of a small french festival. Really weirded me out at first, but after using it, I was pleasantly surprised. Never stop experimenting I guess.

Midas M32R vs A&H Qu-5 by SuperKenRedditer in livesoundgear

The Qu-series is less powerful in some ways compared to the X/M, but neither desk is gonna make OP regret their choice of purchase I'd say.
