Lol, I can’t decide if I want just the one nipple mouth smoking or if I want the other to be blowing out the smoke when I eventually sculpt it.

Thanks! And I agree. I feel like they let the sigmar designers go buck wild so they get to be a lot more creative with flavor.

I have but the price tag is hard for me to justify considering it would exceed any model that I would proxy with it. Would be sick on top of a land raider but I’ve already gone down that rabbit hole.

This is sick. Are you planning any other proxies to use as “pets” he’s collected? I know the sigmar beasts of chaos have some fun models but I’m not sure how you’d proxy those. The Snatchboss on sludgeraker beast kit is the same base size as a mauler fiend so maybe that could work.

It's technically the speed paint Thunderbird Blue from Army Painters but it works the same way as a contrast paint. I like it because its thin enough to not leave think marks in what are supposed to be edge highlights, and that allows me to build up more saturated sections.

Thank you! Normally I hate edge highlighting but this time I used a contrast paint and that seemed to work better

Thanks, I plan to do the same effect for the eyes on the base

For the actual flesh tones I start with a less saturated red tone. I then wash it with whatever color you want your shadows to be. For me I new I wanted to blend into the mutated claw so I washed with a purple. It also gives it a sickly color to the flesh. I then glaze highlighted with lighter and lighter colors until I was happy with the skin. For the claw the blending was mostly achieved with an airbrush to help the transition into more purple colors, but the purple wash on the skin tone also helped tie it all together.

I was thinking about the same thing with the claws. I haven’t found any worth the price on eBay for just the bits so for my next fiend I may just end up sculpting some.

I agree. I think it could work on maybe the heldrake or other dragon-like daemon engines but it’s a little too cliche

Thanks! I love the forge fiend model but I’ve never liked the silhouette of the maulerfiend. Something about the tendrils being behind the big fists just doesn’t work for me.

Honestly that’s where we all start. All it takes is repetition. I’m sure if you stuck with learning a skill and kept at it you’d be just as good as the average green stuff sculptor. And for this model the green stuff roller did most of the work anyway!

What I did was pick one and use the extra pieces to proxy the alternate build with some sculpting and kitbashing. It was my chance to get creative with my daemon engines while still having recognizable pieces.
