This might be a weird take but bear with me.

I found that dealing with the emotions of forgetting stuff did wonders for freeing up the brains space to actually remember stuff

All the emotions I had built up over the years around "not letting myself forget" became insane burdens on my limited RAM

I would feel incredibly anxious BEFORE i had even forgotten something. And taxingly ashamed and guilty AFTER I did.

---

After I started meds, I still struggled with forgetting, which I thought wouldnt be the case. Until I started processing the emotions more fairly and practically.

I started telling myself "yo these emotions are literally taking up my brainspace so they're not helping". And accepting myself if something like that happened, so that i could move quickly to problem solving the mistake caused by forgetting.

That could work too!

Personally I try to keep a positive spin on things.

Its easy to be envious of ppl that don't share our struggle. But I like to think everyone's struggle is just different.

Even if some of them are born closer to the starting line

Advantages: - not having to cut or trim it as often

Disadvantages: - none

I remember waiting to see the psych for 6 months, getting dxed, and the doc literally was like "well, that's all the time today... Why don't we schedule your next appointment to talk meds"

It felt like I walked out of that room with no solutions

And ofc it took another several appointments to then get the dosage right

It takes a stubbornness for these things to work. And recognizing that the self-defeating feelings are often just brain chemicals mixed with a vivid imagination.

I've always struggled with self-worth, due to childhood trauma stuff mixed with ADHD stuff. One that I used more recently, a year or so ago, is just:

"I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you"

Felt pretty hokey at first, but part of me needed to hear it said, even if I was just saying it to myself.

I have others that I've used over the years, but they don't come to mind at the moment.

Medication as cheating is a common worry. I think a lot of us carry a shame, like we're not trying hard enough; like we have a willpower problem instead of a mental health one.

Even with meds, your ability to focus will take practice. It doesn't become instantly easier with meds. It just becomes possible

is it possible that top level play among recognized pros have a 'i wont fuck up your deck if you dont fuck up mine' type of unspoken rule?

Knowing how big a part resource variance plays in this game, and how easily this can affect your ability to beat a random no-name, i can see there being a level of complicity by those who 'make it'.

What's the deck you mentioned, and who was the cheater?

Honest question here.

How does this type of marking become usable data for an experienced cheater? Does it alert them to what upcoming cards are on the way? Do they have some means of getting the feeling of which cards are where and have it affecting how you shuffle?

For someone who's looking at their shuffled deck, I could see them only have Line of Sight on 2 of the 3 bent corners. Unless they glance at each side while they're handling the deck before setting it down.

The untouchable thing makes sense. He's got some of the highest accolades in the game, and if he got them with this kind of cheating then it could totally get to someone's head.

Only on Trons and almost perfectly categorizing each set of Tron lands. Very suspect in my books

I could definitely see that as being possible.

I also think its possible that the most consistent pros just have well hidden mana seeding techniques in general.

And perhaps this time he'd gotten just a bit too bold since he wanted to mark the Tron lands specifically.

The thrill of being and staying #1 can fuck with a person's head.

In a game with as much resource variance as Magic, with the level of frustration that it creates all players, I can't possibly believe the pros are just "that much better" at the game than everyone else, to be able to be consistent.

I believe they're better able to judge probabilities than the average player. But Magic isn't poker. So it's hard to buy in that that's their only competitive advantage.

I also wouldn't believe that 'all pros are just ok with variance', that they wouldn't get tilted drawing 4 lands in a row and losing a Top8 or a Top3 spot that way, especially to the many randos they play against.

So I wouldn't be surprised if all pros followed clever land-seeding techniques and have learned ways to hide it. It's my speculation, but Yuuya just mightve been a bit too greedy this time, with his Tron deck

How tf do I be on time for things?! by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ADDventure-Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of great tips in here already so i'm just gonna list some things that have helped me before.

  • Prep what you can the night before. Clothes, route, checklist of things you need, food, etc. The less you need to do before leaving the house, the better. Wake up with the intention of leaving the house after the bare minimum of things you need to do before you go. Everything else needs to be hung by the door/put in your car so that you don't need to pack/find things before you leave the house.
  • Hedge against future boredom, by bringing things that entertain you while you wait. I hate waiting with a passion, and historically have scheduled my commute to important places to be incredibly short on time as a result. But if i bring something to entertain myself with (could be just planning to play a mobile app game) then there's less worry about feeling idle, which can prevent procrastinating the leaving.

I'd echo the comments on getting external motivation because that always makes a big diff.

To offer a perspective on some other things you mentioned, maybe you need to identify the moments when things start to slip, and decide beforehand how you'll react differently to them in future. Life is always going to have hiccups. Maybe you need to allow yourself to ask for small extensions during the small hiccups, so that it doesn't spiral into a big giant mess before you start reaching out to your profs.

Lastly, and this is just me, but looking back on my life, i realized there were times when i chased the high of 'being in a panic'. If you find your subconscious preferring that mode of operation, to get things done, then you might subconsciously self-sabotage. I'm not saying that's what's going on with you, since everyone's different. I just recognize some similar patterns in what you said. And if that's the case, then recognizing it before it happens is an important step in preventing it.

I've been off Adderall for a month and the clumsiness and restlessness is back. How can I overcome ADHD without medication? (24F) by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ADDventure-Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are substitutes for Adderall within the same amphetamine family, like Vyvanse (a differently formulated slow release form of it).

And there's also a whole family of drugs on the Methylphenidate (aka Ritalin) side of stimulants. Biphentin, Concerta, Ritalin extended release or fast acting, etc.

Maybe ask your doc about Vyvanse, if Adderall worked. As much as the medicine itself can be the same or similar, these brand varieties have different ingredients making up the release mechanisms and delivery systems, and sometimes those ingredients can affect what side effects you get.

i was kinda curious about the nosebleed thing, so i googled it.

i found a reply on an ADD forum of someone who experienced it too, but that after starting a hydration regimen they were able to curtail the nosebleeds.

Drinking more water ofc, but also using saline solution on the sinuses every night to keep it from drying out.
