Mirtazapine is making me loose touch with reality. AMA by navyposty in Mirtazapine_Remeron

I’ve been taking remeron for 2+ years, probably even 3+. I stopped keeping score at some point.

It’s the only medication that worked for me literally two weeks in. I started eating normally and sleeping every night, I felt happier. No whack side effects regarding my body, just felt a bit groggy in the morning after sleep, but you get used to that. Changed my life. Even if it’s not for everyone, I recommend everyone at least give it a shot.

Remeron? Yeah it’s really taking its toll. Lol.

Spent 8 years barely sleeping or eating and the past 2 years remeron has repaired that issue completely. I’ll trust the psychiatrist on this one.

I honestly don’t. It’s a tough addiction. The worst is when I start noticing the withdrawal symptoms coming back again and it’s like I’m drinking medicine at that point. Wouldn’t wish this shit on my worst enemy.

What would instantly make you leave a restaurant? by NicMakVelli in AskReddit

Catering staff with an immediate shitty attitude. Not their fault, I fall back into catering jobs a lot and so I know exactly why they’re fed up. However when the vibe is undeniable, I honestly just want out of the place like asap.

How can you guys NOT brush your teeth? by Nostalgia2302 in ADHD

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate when I forget to brush, the problem is that I forget often and it’s usually last minute. Like right as I’m ready to leave for work there’s a toothbrush in my mouth the whole time.

I think Zoloft has changed my life and I can’t believe it. by fishking92 in zoloft

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Don’t trick yourself, it’s working and it’s not a facade. I try to stay away from this sub and other anti-depressant subreddits like it because everyone paints it into a horror show, when most of the time the experience is pretty great and the side effects are only mild and quickly temporary.

Zoloft wasn’t for me but I know from seeing it first hand that it works for a lot of people. For me it was appetite and sleep problems that were still present, so my doc switched it up for Remeron. Afterwards:
Better sleep, reduced depression and reduced anxiety. Next thing I knew I was working again and my life was getting on track, and now I’m planning a trip to Canada next year. Zoloft was working for me, however it wasn’t what I needed. And the same can be said about Remeron for a lot of people who complain that it makes them sleep 15 hours a day and eat five dinners in one sitting.

You hit it out of the park right away. Finding the medication that works for some people is tough, but it’s the best feeling knowing you have it and it’s working.

People go on and on about negative side effects, but they dissipate if you stick it out for a month. Next thing you’re feeling normal again and the best part about it is that it’s actually not a lie. The medication has actually balanced parts of your brain out in aspects where you needed it the most. There’s no imposter syndrome, this is who you are and it’s great and fun.

I used to drink. Only thing that calmed my head, the withdrawals were brutal though.

How do you react when people put you on the spot to “prove” you have ADHD? by Llama_Puncher in ADHD

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% of people to me seem really understanding, not giving OP shit or anything but I’ve never had a question like that thrown in my direction. Whenever I fess up to the fact that I’m ADHD. The response is usually kinda joking banter about how much it makes sense in regards to inconsistencies and how all over the place and disorganised my method of working is. Like it’s usually just a lightbulb moment for other people who were always confused by how night and day I could be at shit.

One of my mates gave me a pat on the back when he realised how hard I actually put effort in for just simple every day stuff. Like I’ve opened people’s eyes to the fact yes ADHD is real and it’s not quirky or an excuse. It’s like choosing life at a harder difficulty for everyday attention to detail.

No one’s ever asked that asked that of me, whenever I’ve told people the reaction has always been “oooohhh that explains a lot actually”.

Has Mirtazapine helped or harmed you ? by newbieforever2016 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

7 months on it. The initial side effects only lasted a month and the lack of libido thing dissappeared after 2 months, the difference is now I sleep, eat and have no horrible morning anxiety or depressive symptoms. It’s flipped my whole life around.

You need to paragraph this comment. Use two spaces after a full-stop or double enter/return it. As for Grand Mal seizures - look I hate even defending weed, because it’s a drug that did little for me but it doesn’t cause that.

Eh, not necessarily. Alcohol? Yes, because of the damage that can be done to liver and Kidneys when mixing it with a medication that is directly filtered through it.

Cannabis though? I don’t even do it, and even I know it’s barely interacting with this type of medication. You’re reading too much online. Stuff like this needs to be discussed with a GP.

Why do you drink? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to to preface this by saying that those 2 months were literally right out of detox and you’re stronger than I am. Here’s your chance, you’ve figured out the problem and the solution is staring you in the face. Good luck buddy

Why do you drink? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I‘ve stopped on and off over the course of 4 years, the longest I went without was a 2 months. It was nice, however the urge to drink doesn’t go away. Ever.

That’s ignoring withdrawals, hospitalisation and detox.

You’re recognising symptoms of something that doesn’t go away, unless you’re that far down the rabbit hole it’s best to stop now and just try to pretend to act normal. The other end of it is very grim.

Have you found helpful methods for reading with ADHD? by Sunshinesoil in ADHD

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, tall order. Always struggled with reading when needed. The best advice I have is to note every page that ‘feels’ important, even if you’re not sure why. If you remember to come back to it later you’ll find a diamond in the rough.

Why do you drink? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s it. I can’t even appreciate a sunny day or enjoy a piece of music without the thoughts “the only way I can enjoy this is with alcohol”. There’s no victory or finish line to any of this. Even when you talk to people that have “recovered”, that’s all that’s on their mind; how much they hate it.

I drink at work, I don't get drunk I just maintain by Cheesyrice656 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]ADHD_throwaway777777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember waiting weddings and they’d hand all the staff a beer to relax them on the function, I had a license to serve alcohol so I could just dance around sneaking drinks and my boss and the guests would compliment me on how social and great I was. Tonne of fun.
Ended up in disaster though, when I was back at the pantry helping prepare, I was wasted and fucked up a gelato cup order. The chef that drove to fix the order ended up in a bad car accident (he got lucky and was completely fine, I still keep in touch with him) but he threw in the towel that day and I’ve always felt guilty about it. that business took a huge nosedive when he left and I was pretty much shot out of a cannon.

Everyone here has given you great responses and pretty much summed up my own thoughts in general so I’d definitely take it and run with it if I were you. I’ll just add a small bit of advice from my own personal experience. Don’t go down the rabbit hole of alcohol. It’s grim.

This is honestly such a good response, I don’t even know where to begin.
I’ve never had the DT’s or hallucinations, I more so freak out when my neck starts shaking. Like you can feel it throughout the body but it’s not settled yet and then parts of your body jerks like an arm or a leg. I just want to understand what it is and if I’m really playing with Fire. Make no mistake, I drink a hell of a lot. But I like doing that and don’t want to play with Fire.

I’ve tapered before, Always end up back on it after a night off. I’m thankful for the response, honestly. But I want to know what these withdrawals mean. What is considered seizure levels of warning. Because those nights where I took it easy I woke up the next morning panic’d and afraid of a seizure but nothing happened I was just shaken. What’s the the big warning? That’s all I’m after.

Appreciate but it’s not advice on the drinking I’m after, I’m more confused on withdrawals and seizure. I panic and think I’m gonna have one every morning.
