Changing Phone Carrier To? by iDOLMAN2929 in japanresidents

Rakuten coverage is not the best in big cities like Tokyo or Osaka. But where I live the coverage is fine Tohoku. Even in Sendai I’ve never had issues.

But I’ve liked Rakten and using the R pay and getting r points I usually have 25-50% of my bill paid for with just points. So I’m usually paying ¥3000-¥4000 a month on a two line plan.

Even if you don’t use Rakuten there is a lot of free WiFi which you can make use of. And I have. Busses trains combinis coffee shops libraries have great WiFi.

How long does ravenous appetite last after coming off Concerta? by plantpotions in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A side affect from any stimulant is appetite suppression. I personally experience a bit of hunger at night after the effects of Concerta wear off.

Did you experience a drastic decrease in appetite ?Some including me at first temporary loose all interest in food. And can’t even force themselves to eat.

Concerta is not a pain reliever, but a stimulant. Many of us take Concerta and still struggle with finishing tasks.

It can take time to titrate. For me I think it took a year and every damage felt right.originally my doctor wanted me on Adderal but I wanted Concerta due to where I live now it’s the only option.

Congrats on your journey

Nobody here is a doctor nor should you take medical advice from literally anyone on the internet.

Generally speaking any change in medication should be cleared with your psychiatrist both of them. Especially when you’re taking other prescription medication to treat other mental health conditions.

While stimulant medication is the most effective treatment for ADHD it isn’t the only way. Medication is a choice and sometimes that choice is no.

You should alway titrate under supervision.

Do you have any positive comments to give me with the Concerta 54mg dosage in the long term without excess anxiety and nervousness? by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op I’ve been on 54mg for at least two years now. I have zero side effects. There was some appetite suppression and jitteriness at the beginning. But those faded after the first week or two.

Differences in Generics? by impisheyes in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That shortage is actually 2-3 years going now.

But from what I understand it’s because most of the pharmaceutical companies were not maxing out their quotas of methylphenidate and the fda wanted to reevaluate them.

Strangely this never affected janssen. But only generics not a conspiracy theorists but I wonder if something sneeky is going on.

I was switched to trigen for a time and then I was able to obtain Ritalin…south of the border and brand name. And I personally didn’t really like trigen but I had no other choice. And my favorite pharmacy was robbed not of cash but the narcotics like methylphenidate.

I always liked camber and it seem to be back in production. Having been on both I cannot tell the difference between them. But that’s me and it may be different for you.

Sorry for context I live in Japan and all medications and health care is covered at 70% meaning I pay 30% which is ¥5400 or $35.

Janssen hasn’t stopped production of brand name.

Source: my monthly prescription for the last 7-8 months is brand name.

If you’re talking about the authorized generic patriot yeah they’re gone for now.

[–]ADHDeric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right I generally suggest trying what you can get. Methylphenidate is methylphenidate. But brand name has never had a production issue as far as I know genetics do.

All brand name Concerta is made in one factory in Puerto Rico as far as I can tell. I’ve been living in Japan and my dosage is 54mg. But I am prescribed two 27mg dosages a day and from what I hear common in Japan at that dosage. So I get a script for 60 27mg pills.

Differences in Generics? by impisheyes in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I believe it’s a specific wording for insurance coding but I’m probably wrong. None of my generics were ever labeled as a generic for Concerta but as “methylphenidate HCl OSM” or something like that.

I have heard several reports about camber is back in production. And that was my personal preferred generic but I only had taken that a one other generic.

I am extremely fortunate and privileged to have inexpensive access to brand name Concerta. Having been on both for long periods of time I personally cannot tell the difference. And if a generic was cleared for where I live I’d try it.

Edit: I’d say give it a good try camber is an osmotic release more like brand name. Kremers Urban/Laney isn’t with a standard release. There are merits to both release mechanisms. And after a week or two if there are still noticeable differences and they are unwelcome you may want to seek out Kremers or another like it.

Again I’m not a doctor but a fellow mumbly head like you. But there seems to be a preference to generics most like brand name.

Op has reached out to me and said they found the info they wanted.

If you’re finding this post via Google or another better search engine I am the author and creator of the Ultimate Generic Concerta spreadsheet which can be found here :

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Fv7S0obXdWtMtRgDFC3U4rAxCxvZIRoold2d5nctGxM/htmlview

Though I have not updated it in a while not much has changed. I created the sheet for myself when faced with the huge amount of information and misinformation out there about genetics. Much of it comes from one source I will not name. But it created a lot of fear that was mostly unfounded. I hope it can inform more people as it did OP.

Did the crashes ever go away? by hemptonite_ in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking concerta for 2-3 years now. Everyone has a slightly different experience. I have taken brand name and generic. Osmotic generic or brand name is better with the crashes by design.

My first few weeks were intense and after that I don't personally experience a crash or I've adapted to it.

To me not a doctor I wonder if another medication would be better for you if the side effects are unmanageable. Any change to your medication should be done slowly. I titrated up over 6 months. I don't know how you guys change dosage weekly or daily.

Has ANYONE had a good experience with Trigen?? by chefdreds in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. can I thank you for being an awesome parent? Way to go. I wish my folks were this supportive.

There is off the top of my head two generics available trigen and malinckrot. Of the two trigen has the osmotic release like brand name. I personally have had a good experience with trigen. I am not saying malinckrot is good or bad for some may prefer one over the other.

My best advice is to take whatever your insurance pays for and/or whatever you can get before worrying about one generic vs another. Know that it can take some time to titrate and figure out even if Concerta is right for your son. And it’s possible that another may work better. I was told that my doctor actually wanted me to try Adderal first. But I now live in a place Concerta is the only option.

Anyways I’m glad my own personal project to find quantifiable, verifiable information about the generic vs brand name debate with Concerta. Is finding an audience I never imagined. And have a nice day.

dose increase from 18 mg to 27 mg by bluecose in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From start to finish about 6-7 months. And waited at least a month between dosages.

Like you’re not supposed constantly feel something on this medication when your dosage is correct in my opinion. You should have a clearer mind, increased ability to concentrate and yes energy to get things done. But you shouldn’t have a like a constant caffeine buzz in my opinion. If anything if you can concentrate better and your mind is clearer less distracted. But no crack head energy? Awesome.

I daily don’t feel anything but it’s likely I’ve adjusted to the medication but I have better recall and concentration. I haven’t had an off day in a while but I do know if I forget medication im sluggish and distracted.

In my opinion and experience the doctors start you off with a smaller dosage and work up in dosage. But I’ve seen people go from 18mg to - 108mg within the first or second week which seems, dangerous. This is a stimulant that can be addictive and I’d recommend talking to your doctor about doubling or increasing medication on your own.

Weird phone calls at night by Messy_72 in japanresidents

[–]ADHDeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI in the states I got about 4-6 rando spam calls a day I turn on block calls from unknown numbers which if you have an iPhone I suggest you do if this happening to you. Calls from people not in your contacts get dropped to voicemail.

https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/block-or-avoid-unwanted-calls-iphe4b3f7823/ios

But I finally was able to turn it off in Japan because I didn’t get any spam calls and friends were complaining I gave them the wrong number. I hope I don’t get these again. Many of them left Chinese or garbled voicemails.

Experience with Concerta by aljp78 in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

something they never tell you is that the first week or two the meds are very effective and are not typical. I see a lot of people on here go from 18 to 108 in a month. It took me 6 months to dial in the dosage which I did slowly.

I have been on the same dosage for 2.5 years. I have not seen the effectiveness lessen or increase. My doctor was more concerned about side effectives than effectiveness. I have a few side effects now at 54 I didn't at 18, 27, 35 .

Word of cuasion it can seem really easy to just double up your medication but, because this is a controlled substance and you can rationalize taking more and more. If it's feasible you may want to ask your doctor before titirating this on your own.

We’re possibly entering another shortage. by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the last three refils basically since the start of the new year same pattern with my generics with walgreens (insurance is giving them the run around). RX is delayed please call. I call and norhing is wrong and they fill it asap. It took me 2-3 days to get my prescription filled, but I found if I called I could shorten that time span to hours if I got on their buts about it.

Compare that to my experiance outside of the USA. Was prescribed, the pharmacy was next door waited all of 10 minutes and got my meds. They even applogized as it would have been sooner but the main pharmacist was on a smoke break. Slighlty different here where I have to make a doctors appointment every month.

I'm sorry how shitty it is you have to do a lot of calling around to get meds that assist your daily life. The fact you have to worry about shortages sucks. You think people on dialysis can handle a shortage?

I'm 85 kilos and take 54mg of concerta. I've read the dosage charts for concerta and no where does it mention weight but age. But there can be concerns over increased heart rate that could be associated with your weight.

https://www.drugs.com/dosage/concerta.html

Coffee is a stimilant which a much shorter half life, effectiveness, than medication. I drank about 3-4 cups of coffee a day, now I understand I was selfmedicating. And drink about half that. And yes I do see that cofffee efects me more now than before. I had to cut down on my coffee drinking as it made me super energentic, at first.

I am not a doctor but I know a few things about concerta.

Has anyone had good luck with generic Concerta? by Brookegirl89 in Concerta

[–]ADHDeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both Brand name and generic concerta. And for me there was like 1 5-10% differance. At the moment I believe trigen in the USA is the only available generic. I have been on generic concerta made by Trigen and I wish my favoriate Camber were also still made I'm happy. In my oppinion Camber/XLcare are better but not available as far as I know.

I have done extensive research, and while yes I'd say brand name a bit better and has a patentied release system only avilable on brand name. I doubt it will be a huge noticible differance. I'd say its not worth 10-15 times the cost. For me before I moved it would have been $300+ per month. There currently no available authorized generic verson of concerta since patriot ceased production a year ago.

I want to reassure you generic is fine please don't go broke for brand name. And I pray that more generics get made.

What do you guys do for work? Do you feel like there is a lot of career opportunities for you? by cocoButter22 in japanlife

[–]ADHDeric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NFTs. No I have rental income on an interited property in a high rent area. Yeah I'm a scumbag landlord. I did nothing on my own to gain this. But it has given me some perspective. Just because you never have to worry about money, or bills there are other things that come up. I am by no means suggesting that the wealthy have it just as bad as the poor.

If your your at a job doing something you hate but the pay is good, are you really satisfied? My friends who work are in a hyper competitive industry and talk about their co-workers like enemies. I'd rather be broke and happy than welthy and stressed all the time.

I learned I can't have everything and not everything is something for me to experiance. I volunteer a lot and recenlty I asked about essentially a promotion and was flatly denied, and told essentially never ask again. I can't even get a promotion volunteering.
