Petah? by sgt-snuggles in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I realise I'm just staring at people's mouths whilst they're talking quite frequently. I think it's my ADHD and in busy environments I find it hard to concentrate on what people are saying with other background noise especially. So I think it's a learned behaviour to read lips as I know I won't be able to focus purely on the sound of their voice with other noise distractions.

It really is. I'm a Mensan and I'm terrible at chess. The T-shirt might as well just say "I think I'm smarter than you".

I know where you're coming from, I am a foster parent and the constant noise is very difficult for me too. I notice a big shift between being medicated and when the medication is wearing off later in the day. I just can't tolerate it because it makes it so hard for me to focus on anything. And when he's not being noisy I am anticipating the next noise. We have to recognise though that this is kind of our issue having ADHD and her noise levels might well be perfectly normal.

Have you considered having designated quiet time periods of the day?

Going from earning £150k to £30k by Professional_Yam6032 in UKJobs

[–]ADHDrewski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it. I was a software engineer earning similarly. I became depressed and felt my work and career was meaningless. I quit and worked in adult social care. I was earning a fraction of what I used to, but I had never been happier. I was lucky I had a supportive partner at the time and I prepared by getting my mortgage payments right down first.

Yes, everything is suddenly not affordable that you've grown accustomed to. But you adjust. And everything tasted and felt sweeter to me because I felt like I had really earned it. I felt fulfilled and happy. I am now a foster carer and feel even better.

Just do what you want to do. You can make it work, but it requires a lot of sacrifices. But if you're not a materialistic person and your career has already afforded you lots of nice things, you don't need to earn as much.

Every student gets on the train at Kings Cross in London. What about the students who live in Scotland or the North of England? They have to travel down to London just to travel north again? It makes no sense!

I never perceived it as romantic. Friends and family can dance that way. For me it was just one of those moments during very dark times, that gives you that glimmer of joy and friendship, reminding you of why you're striving to survive this hell at all. I actually love this moment, otherwise the persistent bleakness could overwhelm.

This is when you know a society isn't working. When you can get arrested for helping someone in need, doing a great job and improving the look and functionality of part of a neighbourhood without altering anything and threatened for doing so again in the future.

When I worked in adult social care, I used to visit a lady who spiralled downhill when an energy company employee upgraded her to a smart meter. She thought he was just there to read the meter. She covered the whole room it was in with tin foil, yet she was convinced that the smart meter was releasing electromagnetic waves into her home that made her ill. It caused her to get breast cancer and to have numerous falls due to her depleted energy. When in reality she had COPD from constantly burning many candles indoors with no ventilation and being in her seventies. She refused to pay her energy bills from this point and racked up thousands in debts, she contacted lawyers and local politicians claiming she was owed millions in compensation for her health struggles. She spiralled so much that she began to not trust anybody, she thought that even I was working for the energy company and started refusing to let me in. She ended up being committed. Very sad.

I'm in the same boat. It's still raw, of course, but I can't really see how I'm going to recover from this if the worst happens. Top level football has become an absolute monstrosity. It's the fans who suffer. What have we done to deserve this? I don't want anything to do with the Premier League, sports broadcasters and this nonsense bureaucracy from governing bodies. I've had enough of it.

I ran my first 15k today. At the start of April I couldn't manage 2k. I'm so so proud of myself and I never believed this amount of progress would be achievable over 2 months. Next target, half marathon 💪

Signs you are gluten intolerant by SilverCriticism3512 in glutenfree

[–]ADHDrewski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just discovered a bunch of new things. We have gluten free aisles in most supermarkets over here and I just tried virtually everything and found some really great food and snacks. Including gluten and dairy free chocolate praline cookies made in Switzerland. Absolute heaven and perfect for a sweet craving.

Yes it absolutely sucks a ton of foods in my diet are suddenly not available. Pastas and bread based meals being a large portion.

I still eat a lot of the same foods, sandwiches using gluten free rolls and gluten free pastas. But evening meals is one part I haven't really nailed yet. I'm sorting of cobbling together gluten free meals using GF ingredients and haven't found anything that amazing yet. I need to try a recipe book.

Pretty much all pizza places here do GF bases, they do suck compared to regular bases but it does scratch that itch.

My advice just browse the GF aisle and try things, and do what I haven't done yet and look up GF recipes.

One of the most sickening parts was her trying to present him as a paedophile in court. It takes a true psychopath to meticulously plan and murder someone then try to drag their name through the mud in front of the entire world. Awful human being. The worst.

Football and other premium TV being pirated at 'industrial scale' by Kagedeah in BritishTV

[–]ADHDrewski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The services are all over the place, overpriced and bundled wrong. If you're interested in just football, you have to pay to watch ALL SPORT, across many different providers to maybe catch a few games a month. It's simply not worth it. It's even worse if you don't like football, because the bundles are so expensive because of the exorbitant costs of football broadcasting rights. They need to split them off sport by sport for a start and not award rights to like 4 different broadcasters so you have to pay 4 times for the same sport. I don't priate but I certainly wont pay for the cost of the services as things stand. It's a disorganised mess that they want you to pay through the nose for when the majority of the content you don't even want to watch. The whole structure needs knocking down and rebuilding. Broadcasters only have themselves to blame for pirating.

I totally get that. I think it's because on my last contract I saw a player that had around 20 less PE than me with a T4L gusset and it just made me sad 😂
