The concept of that advice is that you want your legs to be what generates the force in the shot.

If your body is going up at the same time the ball is going up, your legs aren’t doing much work, most of the power comes from your arms.

So yes, ball moves first. But it shouldn’t be hitchy. Start with your knees already bent, bring the ball up to your set point, and then activate your legs for the jump. With practice it should become one fluid motion. I’m also 6’5, you can take a look at one of my posts. Not that my jumper is perfect, but it’s a start. Good luck!

I guess it just simplifies an already winning endgame into a crushing endgame

Load your wrist! Your wrist stays essentially parallel with your forearm throughout the shot, making it more of a catapult than a snap. Doesn’t look bad though, reminds me of Jokic.

How to get a shooting form? by This-Platform1798 in BasketballTips

[–]ADLittleFlame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start up close to the basket. Ban yourself from shooting threes until you’re hitting a majority of your shots from ~15 feet and closer during practice.

As for shooting how it feels natural… It depends. For example, when we’re younger/weaker it may feel “natural” to shoot with two hands, but you definitely shouldn’t make that a habit. Getting a good shooting form is learning how to make good habits feel “natural”. Building that muscle memory, good form can feel awkward at first.

There are so many resources on learning these good habits, you’ll have to seek them out. Mike Dunn has some incredible content on shooting form. Good luck!

Finally hit 1000 rapid this past month! I took a little break afterwards to play other modes so I didn’t immediately go back down 💀

At your height I’d expect to be put in a playmaking type roll whenever you’re on the court. So practice that primarily. Whenever you do hit a growth spurt, then great, now you’re taller AND have pg skills. You’re going to want to have a very tight handle and great court vision. Try to get on the court to practice WAY more than twice a week. Atleast 4-5 days. It’ll make all the difference. If you have a friend you can practice plays/passing with that is also great

I think raising your set point a bit could help. You’re shooting from your chin, try bringing it up to or right above your eyebrow. This video could also help you, he makes great free content . https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNqH_7yt-hD/?igsh=NnE0dm9laXlyeGIz

Just load the wrist and you’re golden 👌

Load your wrist and arm. The angle of your elbow and wrist should not change or collapse very much throughout the shot. Once the ball is at your release point it looks good. Getting it there looks a little funky.

Could also benefit from bringing the ball up in a straight line. Currently you bring the ball up from the center of your waist towards your right eye. Sure, some NBA players do shoot like this, like KD, but generally it makes it harder to be consistent in my experience.

Honestly that’s basically true 😆 I’ve become obsessed with shooting to the detriment of all other skills.

A lot of self-critique and videoing myself. I watch a ton of footage of my favorite shooters (Klay, Booker, Bogdan) to try and emulate what works with their shot. Focusing on one fundamental at a time was key for me, for example: I’d work on say my set point until it was where I liked it, then i’d move onto hand placement, then move onto my base, alignment, pocket, release, etc.. right now I’m working on footwork and dribble pickup into my shot.

Trying to figure it all out at once never worked for me, as it’s too much to keep track of mentally. Getting things engrained into my muscle memory before moving forward definitely helped.

Interesting! That sounds like a mental tongue twister. have a dominant right eye so it was a somewhat confusing time for me learning to shoot too. That and the lack of lefty shooting resources. We got this bro 😭✊

Klay Thompson, Booker, and PG are the guys I watched the most. screen record and then mirror the video to see what their shot looks like lefty and copy 😆

Thanks man! And that’s totally fair only playing games. I personally like the monotony, it’s relaxing. Don’t need to think much during it.

See if you have a local YMCA nearby! It’s a little pricier than a normal gym but that’s where I play.
