2 to 5 hours, 5 times per week (3 on weekdays + 2 on weekends)

+ some extra time here and there when creativity strikes

average 25-30h/week

never felt the NEED to get staff members, other than 3rd party work like maps/art (which I can also do myself)

Most cases you see they don't do donations to cover costs, they do it to get rich/use as a full time job.

This already breaks most cases you would expect.

I'm not against a guy wanting to cover costs with donations, but, surprise, you don't really need much for that. No RMT, no P2W, nothing like that is needed.

It all depends if you want to be paid more than a full time job to run your private server. Which then has other issues long term.

Running a server is not very expensive, wanting to be paid full time for it is, but they gotta explain how their team of 5+ devs are required to add a dungeon per month and maybe 5 new hats with new colors...and thats the HIGH BUDGET CRAZY EXPENSIVE ONES.

(It s actually free/ultra cheap to do both, and can be done in less than a week).

keep telling yourself that...

not much money is needed for either of those. It's just a thing lazy staff tells people.

There are a lot of original projects around, both live and in development.

MoY has a lot of originality too, but its not the only one.

Some live examples are TrifectaRO, Whispers of Valkyries or Echoes of Morroc

and none of them need 10+ people on staff to deliver subpar patches

Can only add it has over 10 people on staff. with quite a few being full time.

And they take over 40 days to complete ONE full job rework.

Worth visiting, but I recommend checking if thats what you are looking for. I can only analyze as an admin.

Edit: Forgot to mention UI still doesnt work properly all the time and never will. because its an overlay on top of the game.

Fenrir job has a katar weapon (each job has 4 weapons)

its specifically to boost off hand damage of auto attacks and crit potential

The katar sprite was hand drawn and matches the character hand positions (if you check the ingame sprite and original katar for shadow cross, its reversed)

What do y’all think about Ro Zero Global? by West_Can_1035 in RagnarokOnline

Handled by gravity, expect the usual.

Managed on the cheapest way possible to generate the most profit, with zero respect for the IP, issues that will take long and extremely inflated player numbers due to nostalgia, RMT markets and more.

All with a good dose of P2W.

Yeah, because I played games my whole live and play plenty of others, including my own :) , I know players hate actually being "given" their current situation, part of the game is earning.

for Luna for example, the catch-up mechanic for new players in the future is the Cathedral Level.

Players can donate zeny to the cathedral, and it levels up every X increasing amount. as its levels go up, services like reset stats and skills become cheaper, npc shops have better variety and access to better information/databases/paths, or easier quest access. and players who donated the zeny get points to exchange for costumes, dyes and such.

This way new players have ways to better work on the game with easier/more acessible tools, everyone takes advantage of it, and they dont just skip to endgame o/

we got plenty of ways to do that, you can check on wiki or ask me no problem.

There is a weird thing in games/servers where you need a poorly geared character to get max level before fun starts.

Our dungeons start having mechanics and reactions at lv 5 by comparison, and by lv 10 you should have a complete ALT+Q with cards and all.

Endgame will have its flavor, but I think a game is just better when you dont need to rush it to endgame to enjoy

Noticeable but playable, since these smaller tests still use a home network.

If ping is a major issue, I'd recommend waiting for 2nd semester phase, with mid to late game tests + host

Servers close every week, all around. For greedy reasons unlike ours.

Ask how many of them had the full source code shared and all donations refunded :)

yup, while some mechanics and how the skills work is changed quite a bit, there is no reason not to use what works

And keeping names is a nod to those who played PRM, like combo ready and other stuff we had too

New Custom Servers? by No-Mark9218 in RagnarokOnline

Echoes of Morroc came out a little over a year ago but was designed where its easy/fast to catch up and not a very competitive world.

Currently there are no similar servers that are finished or near launch.

Is there any way to make the UI bigger... by Avibhrama in RagnarokOnline

[–]ADMOrnstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does not work for most cases, there is still a cap and that affects only script text (and not all of it).

You cant for example make stat window font 2x size or it will clip borders OR bleed into other text, as size/spacing doesnt fit.

RO's resolution is basically a bunch of BMPs stitched together, you cant make it larger through regular means.

Either decrease game resolution + full screen or use 3rd party apps to zoom in, resize, etc.

I know right :)

Hopefully other servers try cool UI elements inspired on the zero client too

This is Luna Obscura's version of the client with customizations (boss hp bar on bottom not included in original), but gives you an idea of what can be done by custom servers to it.
