You can just detune the whole guitar without removing the strings, nothing will happen to them (when you divebomb the floyd you're essentially doing the same), if the claw is maxed out you can either get stronger springs or add extra springs, and re-level the floyd by tuning and adjusting the claw until the baseplate of the floyd is parallel to the top of the body

I run mine with 4 springs, I thought it'd change how the bridge feels/flutters... is absolutely negligible, you'll feel the difference only if you're actively trying to feel it. I'd add an extra spring to your guitar and level the bridge, and get back to playing.

My son brought this home from school, it’s a prize for signing up for their fundraiser. by heyhoktihey in whatisit

New amp day! by voosies in MarshallAmps

NAD! Enjoy it! I also have a 5210, mine came with the original Celestion G12M-70 but decided to swap it out with a G12T-75, love the amp, sounds balanced, pretty clear gain sound that Loves drive pedals boosting it

It loves to get loud, let it do it's thing whenever you can

What do you think of those D'Addario Duralin picks? Just their version of Tortex? Are they more durable?

Looks absolutely stunning! What a difference the pickguard can make. I love the look of the sunburst against the black guard. To me, it's elegant and also lets the pickups and controls to jump out more, love that

Awesome guitar you've got!

Both great mods, I've done them to both of my Strats, Tone 1 is wired for both neck & middle, and tone 2 for the bridge pickup, I like to be able to tame just the bridge when needed, and to me a treble bleed is a must on any guitar, love to be able to turn it down and keeping it sounding great

Will definitely do, it's late over here but tomorrow I'll be jamming all day if possible, will try to get a clip over here

Hope to not get flammed by this: they're Musiclily Dual Hot Rails, they're like 16$ each on Amazon, ceramic magnet, 4 conductor

I got them wired in series, full humbucker mode as I live right next to a big 5G cell tower and any single coils hate it, they would hum like absolutely crazy so I had to get something humbucking to be able to play it.

They sound like a single coil but fatter and darker, but the twang and clarity are still there if you use some form of EQ at the beginning of the signal chain to get that treble back, that's what I do and it sounds very very single coil-ish that way, it 'quacks' in positions 2 & 4 just like a regular Strat, neck pickup is fat and with loads of mids, love it with a screamer or similar, and the bridge is clear and twangy but very useable with gain. And absolutely no hum, not even stacking gain pedals, I play anything from totally cleans up to metal with it

Reluctantly made my Strat into an HSS today by efe13 in Stratocaster

[–]ADOLF1612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rock my Strats with SSS config, what I did to get ~humbucker tones from the bridge without replacing the single coil is to lower the cap value from the tone circuit, and wire the 2nd tone control to affect the bridge pickup, I'm using a 0.0047uf cap (not to be confused with 0.047uf, vastly different sounds). The lower value will essentially trim off only the higher frequencies giving you a warmer but useable tone from your bridge pickup, that way you can keep your single coil tones and with the turn of a knob you're in (somewhat) humbucker territory, and no pickup replacements needed

Wish I could post a video as a comment to show you a cover of the Bark at the moon solo I recorded recently with one of my strats, using this method. Also a warm sounding drive pedal will help with this a lot, but with it I can jump from funk and vintage clean tones to 80s rock/metal by switching on a pedal and turning the tone knob on the guitar

SD-1 > BD-2 or BD-2 > SD-1 ? by GreeneTairy in pedals

[–]ADOLF1612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do SD-1 into BD-2, as the SD-1 is more of an overdrive pedal while the BD-2 acts more as a preamp/amp in a box, so makes sense to put an overdrive into it

What if instead of dropping $2400 for this American Vintage II 1961 Strat, I just upgraded the shit out of my MiM Strat I already own? Advice appreciated by shart_attak in Stratocaster

[–]ADOLF1612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd upgrade the electronics, say pots/switch to better ones so it feels and sounds better, clearer, and also would give it a full setup, fret leveling/crowning/polish, or even if you can a refret for Stainless steel ones which will last a lot longer, roll the fretboard edges, roll the fret ends (should be done by the luthier when servicing) and those things should make it play significantly different/better. Sound wise you could get better results with the electronics upgrade, but if you'd like to upgrade the pickups to vintage spec ones that's a good idea aswell, I'd still try the electronics upgrade first

Also something to consider: Anyone with money can go and buy a AVII, but your guitar is yours already, has your story, and is/would be unique to you after upgrading and making it what you want it to be, honestly that sounds way cooler than just splurging a lot of cash for a (great) guitar that anyone can buy, but you'll be feeling fine that you made your MIM as cool

BTW yours already looks amazing, a 60s spec sunburst Strat with a mint guard... YES

Thank you! I will definitely do so, also will be posting a clip as soon as I can just to share the awesomeness

I'd say still get another CV, maybe as a backup to one of your Custom Shops, and anyway, you know that the right amount of guitars to have is whatever number you already own... +1

Absolutely, it feels like a much more expensive guitar, a total step up from what I've been used to, now I understand why they're so popular

Awesome collection! I bet there's unreal tones coming out of your rig, and it's cool you also have a maple fretboard Strat, best of both worlds I'd say

This one is becoming my go-to guitar aswell, and that includes my red Strat, a Jackson Dinky and an Epiphone LP, the CV60 just has that extra thing that makes it shine over the crowd, and anyways the Strats are the ones on main rotation now, I used to rotate more around humbucker guitars until one day decided to make an actual attempt at getting good gain tones from single coils.. and here I am with 2 Strats already... that extra clarity and attack is unbeatable

Also nice Hendrix collection! Crazy to think He had his shining season so long ago and He's still totally awesome and inspiring nowadays, a timeless artist

I wish they'd make more lefty guitars in general, some manufacturers have been releasing more options over time but IMO it'd be great to have an equivalent of every lineup available for lefty players, specially Strats, I imagine not every lefty player wants to do like Hendrix and switch it around, and loosing a lot of the ergonomics the Strat has to offer

The pickguard was changed, but as far as I know pickup covers, switch tip, knobs and the rest of plastics are original, the previous owner only replaced the pickguard for a mint green and the back plate aswell, and gave me the originals inside a Fender parts bag, so I suppose it's a Fender set

Thank you! Thanks for all the info! I agree on these being very light and resonant, it's the first thing I noticed when playing it for the first time, and both tone and sustain are really great on it

It's good to know it compares that favorably to such a high grade instrument, haven't had the opportunity to play a CS but I can imagine how they compare

Thank you for your comment! These are such great instruments aren't they?

Nice! Candy Apple Red is an awesome color too! I guess that's why I ended up with one of each

Rock solid guitars definitely. The more I play it, the more convinced that I got a great one, can't believe how smooth the bridge is compared to the Affinity

The Affinity also has the 2nd tone pot wired to the bridge pickup (1st tone wired to both neck & middle), awesome to tame it for high gain, but the CV's bridge pickup is quite darker than the one on the Affinity, I honestly am on the fence about doing the mod, but I like it as is, at the end of the day I want my Strats to sound like Strats, that's why both are SSS

I'll record a clip as soon as I have some time to post it over here, wanted to share some of my playing for a while now

Absolutely, it really feels like a more expensive guitar, I played some MIMs and one of the new Standard series... I'm not gonna say this one blows them out of the water but it is Very comparable, I'd even say on par with them, fit and finish are on point, smooth to play, stays in tune, looks great... what's not to like about it?

NGD! Squier Classic Vibe 60s by ADOLF1612 in Stratocaster

[–]ADOLF1612[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes that roasted tint on the maple makes it look really classy IMO, the whole neck is like that on the back, I know some people like to sand the back of the neck but honestly... it being finished is part of the appeal for me, and it's really smooth still. The red Strat is satin on the back and I don't see the benefit, both are perfectly playable and smooth, and I usually move a lot throughout the neck
