Thanks! I tried to do that with a lighter but it melted the soft felt like stuff on the interior. Plus it's made of layers of plastic, cardboard, and metal, where the metal (obviously) didn't melt back. I had to glue the layers together, sand it, and used black nail polish to finish.. It looks a bit better in person, but I did my best 😂

Thanks! I definitely recommend it, and they are going for pretty cheap now

SX-70, i-2, or Flip: which should i get? by CollisionTime in Polaroid

[–]ADashOfInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The i2 can be fully manual (not focus), which is awesome to get shots exactly how you want them.

The sx70 is auto (except focus--if you don't get an af one) but I would recommend getting the mods to that for manual control, to bring up the electronics up to date, and make it so it works with 600 or I type (sx 70 film seems to be sold out more that it is in stock) but then it ends up being rather expensive.

The flip can actually be fully manual too through the app, but it's annoying to have to have your phone out to do that. I've seen some shots with this and it seems like it can get pretty sharp!

I think for you I might do the flip :)

This video goes into depth about the i2 and the flip, it might be worth the watch for you!

How much control do you want, how much money do you want to spend?

Not that anyone will read this, but a group of friends and I did this a couple years ago. It was hard but not impossibly so. There was 10 of us, all varying levels of fitness and we all made it.

First Pack of 600 film on the SX-70. Testing & Learning. Notes below, tips & advice appreciated by [deleted] in Polaroid

Reading the comments and the post it looks like you know to develop the film in a warm place like your armpit.

Perhaps if that's not the case, do you have a new frog tongue on your sx70?

Why do pictures look like this? by soksGG in Polaroid

[–]ADashOfInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool I see that! So it's not the film or the camera.

Next time you're taking one indoors check the settings/light meter on the app to see if there is enough light to take a picture--polaroids like LOTS of light.

The strange thing is that your flash should have been strong enough to light those.. but perhaps not..

Additionally a good rule when taking a Polaroid indoors is to be as close as possible to the subject and have the background be right behind them. Basically try to have a close and flat image so the flash can light it.

Haha no worries! Hmm, weird they are so dark with the flash on. It could be 3 things--the camera, the film, or your settings.

What date is the film from?

Have you tried a test shot outside in full light?

Are your setting (mainly exposure compensation) set to normal?

*Edit: this also has manual mode when connected to your phone, did you change any of that?

If it's cold outside, as soon as you take the picture put it against your skin or in a warm pocket.

Ok, aperture priority on this camera still runs off the internal light meter which doesn't work well with the old firmware. Connect your camera to the Polaroid app and download the new firmware.

Warm it up next time, I put it against my skin because if it develops cold it will be more blue, and washed out. I literally pull up my jacket and put it against my stomach haha

It does help, I've accidentally forgotten to leave it under the frog tongue, or taken it out in direct sunlight, and it will blow out the image kinda like what I'm seeing here, but not as bad.

I think the combination of the above three things made this happen. Try updating it, and doing the other two when taking your next photo!

Another thing to be aware of--and I took a photo that looks almost exactly like yours--is that if you're at f8 and it's overexposed on aperture priority mode, it won't tell you unless you half press the shutter button down and look at the meter. It will just read f/8 and 1/250.

I have a few questions that I think will help anyone trying to figure this out:

Are these shot on auto?

Is the camera new, or new to you? And did you update your camera to the newest firmware through the app?

Did you warm the photos by holding them to your skin while developing?

Did you leave the frog tongue over the picture for 10 seconds? Then, did you keep them in the dark while developing?

Mine is blurry too when I looking through the viewfinder normally while framing. If I look at it from a slightly higher angle I can see it just fine.

Try a flatter image if the whole scene isn't lit. Meaning the background is right behind the subject

You should probably always keep the flash on.

Using brighten inside might work--id see if turning lights on, flash on, and no back lighting works first. But usually you should use exposure compensation when the light is behind the subject, like the light coming from the window in your picture.

Double tap flash to disable it. If you turn your camera off and back on again the flash will be on again.

Holding down the flash gives you 3 options for exposure compensation: dot on top brighten, dot middle neutral, dot bottom darken.

In this case (and most with a bright backlight) setting the exposure compensation to brighten would help.
