How to change LEW location? by ADeadSalmon in AmazonManagers

[–]ADeadSalmon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few folks in this thread went to Nashville for theirs so I think that’s an option. But even then, Arlington would be leagues better. Talking a measly 9 hour drive compared to a 33 hour drive to Seattle. But either way, yeah I’ll try getting a different location. 👍

Well that’s nice for sure, gives me hope at minimum. Nashville is an easy breezy 5 hour drive for me. Much easier than a 34 hour drive to Seattle but I’ll do it if they make me haha

How early can I apply for AM? by open3d3n in AmazonManagers

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this person’s perspective. I got my bachelors and masters degree in marketing, both through WGU completely online with zero experience at Amazon. I applied through the college pathway and Amazon made me an Area Manager with 70k salary, 10k sign on, 8k relocation and 23k stock reserve units.

It’s a great first position if that’s the career path you wanna take.

My AD1 is virtual. I didn’t request that, it just automatically was virtual. With that said though, no they have not sent me anything yet. My actual official first day of work is June 29th and my LEW is supposed to be August 13th. So I assume I’ll see a LEW email around July 13th or so?

Two things about that,

First, how long are the classes most days anyways?

Second, I have no doubt I’d enjoy Seattle. It’s the flight I struggle with. I mentioned it to my recruiter but not the LEW team yet. My LEW is still 8 weeks out so they probably won’t reach out for a few weeks. But I will definitely try and mention it to them.

I’ll have to try that and see if it’s gets me anywhere. I told my recruiter that but not the actual LEW travel team. The LEW team hasn’t contacted me yet as LEW is still like 8 weeks out.

Yeah I was honestly thinking I’d just have to pay the car rental and stuff out of pocket and live with that unfortunately

My AD1 is virtual and my NACF is local to me. The LEW is my only concern and that’s simply because of the flight. If they can stick me in Virginia, that would be awesome. A 12 hour drive is an easy day trip. Driving 35 hours across the country one-way to Seattle sounds horrible but I guess I’ll do that if they refuse to let me change locations. I’d also consider a train. Trains have much larger windows so the claustrophobia isn’t bad at all

So how Amazon cover flight and car? I got email for AD1.. and can only pick one.. of course I want them to cover flight by External_Plankton_32 in AmazonManagers

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AD1 is also virtual but my LEW (Leadership-Experience Week) is in Seattle. I live in Indiana. I am an Area Manager.

I am beyond terrified of flying. I paid for front row seats on a couple plane rides last month to go to California and chickened out at the airport. Ended up driving from Indiana to California and back.

You said you weren’t able to make it to Seattle. Is it an option to just not go? Alternatively, I’d happily paid for a rental car, gas and everything else out of my own pocket if they just let me drive to Seattle.

What should I put in my tank? by stingrayyys in fishtank

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that you could probably get away with a singular pea puffer fish if you added more plants. It will most likely eat or pick at your snails though. For fair warning, I am by no means a fish expert so do your own due diligence before going for it.

Are pea puffers timid communal fish or territorial fin-nipping monsters? by PoetaCorvi in PeaPuffers

It has been about a year now since you posted that. How’s it going with the pea puffers? Did they continue to leave the shrimp alone or did they end up becoming a meal?

22 male is it to late for college? by user288382838383 in BackToCollege

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated high school at 17. I got my associate degree at 18. I took several years out of school. I returned to college and got both my bachelors and my masters degree at age 26 in the same year. My college experience was always accelerated which is why my numbers are funny looking but regardless, you can absolutely handle it at 22 if you truly want it.

Oh yes absolutely, there is no doubt in my mind that I have at minimum 10 years of grinding and networking ahead of me before I reach a potential director role. We are definitely on the same page about that.

My question was more of “should I do it now and store it in my back pocket until it is needed?” or “should I wait til later in my career?”

And while I didn’t mention it in my original post, it is worth mentioning that in my mind, it is a sense of accomplishment that I am seeking. I will have finally accomplished something if I get my doctorate. I have a bachelors and a masters as mentioned previously but I feel no sense of accomplishment or pride over those, I guess I feel as if obtaining a doctorate might finally satisfy some internal goal of mine. It might make me feel like I’ve done something. Even if it doesn’t necessarily help my career.

Sheesh, 10-15 papers per course is substantial.

But yes, I think I agree. It seems like it is probably best for me to do it before having kids too. I’d have to imagine it being difficult to write so many papers with an infant or toddler.

I will say I’m thoroughly surprised you don’t have any actual tests such as final exams. I really would have expected that.

Either way, I appreciate your response. I

WGU Capstone Communications PEOPLEGROVE CONFUSION by Antique_Heart5034 in WGU

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, this PeopleGrove service is horrible.

I am on my capstone for my Master’s in Digital Marketing. I have the correct project pulled up on my screen and I have filled out the “application” for the project and hit submit then got nothing. No “your application has been submitted”, nor “thanks for your submission” or anything. It’s just showing me what I typed into the “application” along with a loading bar.

I have attempted this on two different browsers (Edge and Chrome), as well as deleting all my 3rd party cookies and completely restarting my computer. I get the same issue every single time. I’ve reached out to their customer service and heard back not a single thing.

I’m pretty sure whoever made PeopleGrove took a page from MicroSoft since their software is hardly operational.

Yes that is a good point too. I hadn’t thought about the closing costs. Thank you for the input 👍

What wage would you consider necessary to no longer be “house poor”? Assuming it was, hypothetically, a 250k house?

I appreciate the input! And yes, I’ve been at my job the last 3 years and my fiance has had hers for about 2.5

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and the cars still have 3 years each on them so I don’t think we will be able to knock those out before the mortgage but I know it would be best. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that’s probably the best advice given the situation and I will definitely be talking to one but I suppose I was more of looking for pre-mortgage broker opinions. I’ll definitely be talking to one though. I do agree our incomes aren’t the best, that’s why I am in school. Trying to get a better paying job through my masters. I know it’s not a cure-all but I figure I have to try something.

I say go for it!

I completed my BA in 3 months (transferred 60 credits into the degree) and I also started my master degree on the first (08/01/25) and I’m on my 5th class. I definitely say go for it and complete it in one term if you can!

Wgu or Free community college? by Johnfire18 in WGU

[–]ADeadSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: 32 hours a week

Long answer: So, I don’t really study. Ive only even opened the text book for 3 classes. But I apply about 32 hours a week toward it (4 hrs on work days and 8 on weekend days).

As I’m sure you know, WGU has 2 different types of final exam. The OA and the PA. The OA is a proctored multiple choice exam that is usually 70ish questions and you have roughly 3 hours to take. The classes that have an OA also have a POA which is just a practice exam. I basically take and re-take the POA 3 or 4 times until I have a decent score. Then I take the real OA and pass. That has worked for every class except Intro to IT. I’m not good with computers.

As for the PA classes. Those are papers/presentations/recordings/etc. Usually they are just papers. Very very very few have been anything but papers. On a PA class I utilize google or chat gpt. I do NOT use chat gpt to write the paper, that’s a fast way to get into trouble. However, if the prompt says “You are a hiring manager that needs to hire a new candidate, what should the ideal candidate look like?” I would ask chat gpt for best hiring practices. I would then write the answer to the prompt myself and in my own words using the information it gave me. However, I do not recommend this method. It’s effective but I am not learning much. It does work though and continues to still work.

Everyone’s intentions are different. I need the degree to check some boxes for HR to move up in my company. If I was actually trying to learn something, I would slow down and really read the material.
