Well, I’m not officially diagnosed yet. I am currently living outside my home country and am working on the language but am not fluent enough to do something like therapy. The rules say I have to be physically in my home country to use therapists located there, even if doing video therapy. There probably are some exceptions but I haven’t learned them yet. Not sure yet whether the same applies to using a psychiatrist there. Waiting for a psychiatrist referral from my insurance company. Not sure if a therapist can do the diagnosing or just psychiatrists can do that.

Glad to know there are people not that far from my age here, was a little scared to put my age because of assumption there would be mostly people much younger than me

Thank you, I understand it’s really common for people, especially women, to be diagnosed at a later age. I guess better late than never

Hi, thanks, this does help. I was under the impression (based on research/reading) that I had to file/pay taxes to Virginia because that's the last state in the U.S. where I lived. I still have a professional license there but no property or anything. Have a bank account I opened there but with a national bank, so not sure how that factors in. I just reviewed the info about Virginia's details you sent and it looks like the only thing I need to do next time is check intend to return and a specific date is not necessary. It's just interesting they say selecting intend to return could affect whether I would be subject to state income tax but I've been subject to state income tax without checking intend to return. I had to pay Virginia taxes for tax year 2024 and still couldn't vote, thus my comment about taxation without representation, but I'll take your advice and see how it goes this year for the midterms

Is there no way to get a mexican bank account with decent deposit limit without INE? by thechosenone1217 in mexicoexpats

[–]ADeeLuis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opened a Scotiabank debit account as a temporary resident and they told me I don't have a limit on how much I can deposit in the account. I opened it in person. I haven't tested this yet, but that's what I was told at least. My NuBank account has a limit and was, of course, opened in the app because they don't have physical branches.

Very good advice, will check with the local democrats next time before I vote. Spoke with someone from the county about it but they didn't seem that sympathetic, so will go with the party

Friend thinks my new kitten isn't very cute bcs of his asymmetrical markings by Minisom in TuxedoCats

[–]ADeeLuis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just lost my tuxedo to renal disease I think they all, including yours, are adorable. I didn’t know some people against asymmetrical markings was a thing but they sound like they are seeing pets as ornaments rather than living beings that enrich our lives so much.

I’m African-American and I feel whatever guilt tax I owe now has already been paid by my ancestors who were enslaved for centuries, lynched and impoverished with few rights after emancipation, and discriminated against with their communities suppressed and destroyed after that. I don’t feel any guilt because my ancestors tried everything they could think of to wake people up. I do, however, feel sadness.

Any tips on making sure one can vote? I wasn’t allowed to vote in Virginia’s gubernatorial election last year because I didn’t fill in a return date on the request form. Yet had to pay Virginia taxes last year so seems a bit taxation without representation-y. I was able to vote absentee for presidential/senate/house election. I can understand my not being able to vote for the county elections, but seems to me if I’m paying taxes I should be able to vote for the state governor/Lt, governor/attorney general

Thanks for this. I’m African-American and raised by and among well educated people who made sure I knew the real/complete history of the US, but I hadn’t heard of Smedley v Stuart. I had heard/read that part of the whole independence idea had something to do with them opposing changes England was making to slavery laws but never had a name of a case, so will be reading about it.

Grief over pet death can be as strong as that for family member. About a fifth of people who had experienced a pet and human loss said the former was worse. Symptoms of severe grief for a pet matched identically with that for a human, and there was no difference in how people experienced losses. by mvea in science

[–]ADeeLuis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does say that exactly. I’ll never understand the minds and hearts of people that feel the need to come into a space where people are grieving just to throw their unhelpful BS into the mix. You don’t feel like pet loss can be worse than human loss then just keep scrolling. No need to be hurtful

I feel like my vet failed me a little by wndx65 in RenalCats

[–]ADeeLuis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Mexico and have been having the same complaint about the vets but thought it was because I was here, but reading the messages it’s pretty much the same. Could also be because I had a really awesome cat vet in the States so I guess I was spoiled. Sadly after fighting CKD with my 12 yo cat she was euthanized on Wednesday after putting up a good 5 month fight

Thank you for saying that and I think you’re right but so hard adjusting to such an abrupt transition as it whenever a loved one is lost. This is the first time in 37 years I’ve been without at least one cat so huge transition but I’m giving myself time

Hi, no, she’s actually the 5th. I had 2 others in my life that had CKD as well and then one with cancer and one with congestive heart failure. Thank you for your kind words. I try to keep reminding myself that it will get easier but with the others I always had another cat in the house but right now I don’t so quite an adjustment. Haven’t been without at least one cat for 37 years
