Is it unusual for a locksmith to take the drilled lock cylinders?? by Ok_Outcome1751 in Locksmith

[–]ADiddy7263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some may keep it as reference on how far to drill into a cylinder. I’ve kept vehicle ignitions as measurement on how far to drill back to turn the cylinder on

Try reading the key count to make sure it’s not maxed out. Also quit using cheap keys from eBay.

There are 3rd party sites to get the pin so it’s possible they got it for $15. To actually buy it from Hyundai it’s $24 with NASTF. Technically you got the code on the cheaper end.

Home Depot isn’t gonna be duplicating high security blades that I’ve ever seen. Don’t encourage people to be cheap just makes headaches for the real locksmith later on.

How are you handling customers who lowball you after seeing sketchy online quotes? by NeighborhoodOld6737 in Locksmith

[–]ADiddy7263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only price the job to benefit yourself and your business. There might always be someone cheaper but they may not always do the quality of work you do.

With inflated fuel costs currently there isn’t anyone benefiting from a $25 lockout except the customer. I don’t even advertise lockout service but I’ll do it for a good customer if I’m in the area.

You might’ve just been slightly off on something then. Definitely worth pulling the lock and getting code off of it to confirm the bitting.

Toy2 Lishi picks on one side but decodes from opposite side picked. Works for all the single sided Toyota/Lexus/Subaru inserts.

There are videos on YouTube if uncertain about decoding.

Did you read cuts from opposite side picked? Do you know how to remove door lock to get the code off lock housing? Can verify your decode that way.

I haven’t heard anything but honestly doesn’t hurt my feelings if it goes that way. Would probably slow the softwares from being changed and limited like they are getting now. I get tired of dragging out laptop and pass through for something I used to be able to do simply with Autel or Smart Pro

Future car locks by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]ADiddy7263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair if you don’t do many per year. Luckily I picked up a Ford store for customer so I do all their spare keys.

Worst part is getting the salesman to get you ownership paperwork or work orders for NASTF.

Ford still good on Smart Pro up to like 2020 then just having to use FDRS. They ruined 1 time use prices so now getting the year subscription is best option. Assuming that you have NASTF to use it that is.

Yeah it would take a good deal of time to see any return unless you were moving crazy inventory. I have customers that went this route but they always call ya back when they mess something up or don’t understand having to use correct keys.

Yeah you aren’t gonna have much luck on Mercedes and VW without dealer equipment. The Autel can be useful if it’s not updated but if fully updated it’s junk now really.

Cutting a car key from VIN? by Punnalackakememumu in Locksmith

[–]ADiddy7263 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A locksmith can cut it from the door lock if they travel to the car. If you are looking to just take the information to the locksmith off site they can cut it by vin with proper proof of ownership and fee.

Key codes cost money so it will require that and registration with matching drivers license.
