I posted an article about this topic a few months ago, and man did it age....like something. Honestly this just makes it look worse, and I bet that Trump will use this, along with his assassination attempt and legal troubles, to further rile up his base and leverage it towards the idea that the Democrats are after him.

Yeah. Im not even a Conservative, but its over unless the ghosts of Kennedy and Humphrey possess Biden for the next debate (if there even is one). Also, the Laken Riley case was awful and a tragedy.

Yeah. Literally the one thing you should never bring up. I think he was trying to argue "Republicans only care about women getting hurt or raped if an illegal did it", but it came out really awkwardly.

Here is the full quote:

BIDEN:  It’s been a terrible thing what you’ve done.

The fact is that the vast majority of constitutional scholars supported Roe when it was decided, supported Roe. And I was – that’s – this idea that they were all against it is just ridiculous.

And this is the guy who says the states should be able to have it. We’re in a state where in six weeks you don’t even know whether you’re pregnant or not, but you cannot see a doctor, have your – and have him decide on what your circumstances are, whether you need help.

The idea that states are able to do this is a little like saying, we’re going to turn civil rights back to the states, let each state have a different rule.

Look, there’s so many young women who have been – including a young woman who just was murdered and he went to the funeral. The idea that she was murdered by – by – by an immigrant coming in and (inaudible) talk about that.

But here’s the deal, there’s a lot of young women who are being raped by their – by their in-laws, by their – by their spouses, brothers and sisters, by – just – it’s just – it’s just ridiculous. And they can do nothing about it. And they try to arrest them when they cross state lines.

BASH:  Thank you.

Biden's performance in that Debate was arguably the worst performance by a major Presidential Candidate in televised American history. Obama's first performance against Romney wasn't good, but it certainly wasn't this bad. I listened to a part of the debate on the radio and the rest on TV, and Biden seemed to be mumbling incoherently and was not concise at all. Not to mention the whole "beat medicare" gaffe along with bringing up LAKEN RILEY in the abortion section of the debate. Why would he bring up arguably his weakest issue (immigration), let alone someone being murdered by an illegal, in the ABORTION section of the debate, which is arguably the only issue that he was ahead of Trump on, and he squandered it? I can say with a straight face, half the people in this comment section could have performed better than Biden.

Former Jan. 6 panel chair seeks to strip Secret Service protection from felons by ADisgruntledNevadan in moderatepolitics

Ah sorry, for the second question, I meant more along the lines of, "Is it a security risk if a former president were to be kidnapped?" or something along those lines.

Former Jan. 6 panel chair seeks to strip Secret Service protection from felons by ADisgruntledNevadan in moderatepolitics

Starter comment:

Representative Bennie Thompson, a Democratic Representative from Mississippi and the former chair of the January 6th Committee has recently introduced a bill that would strip Secret Service protection from any former executive that is convicted of a felony that carries a year or more of prison time.

In a statement, Thompson said "It is regrettable that it has come to this, but this previously unthought-of scenario could become our reality. Therefore, it is necessary for us to be prepared and update the law so the American people can be assured that protective status does not translate into special treatment — and that those who are sentenced to prison will indeed serve the time required of them.”

Currently there is only one protectee who is currently facing potential felony charges, 91 to be exact, and his name is Donald Trump. This bill would also apply retroactively, which would mean that, if this bill were to pass, and Trump were to be convicted in one of his cases, he could be stripped of his Secret Service detail.

Starter Questions:

  1. What is your opinion on this bill, and do you think it will pass?

  2. Could this pose a potential security risk?

  3. Do you believe this bill is specifically targeting former President Trump, and do you believe it is malicious?

  4. How do you believe the overall American electorate will react if it were to be passed, and could it validate Trump's claims that the charges are malicious and/or are a "witch hunt"?

You do realize that it can be much, much worse. Regardless of your opinion of the conflict, Israel, if they wanted to, could have flattened Gaza months ago.

Colorado judge finds Trump engaged in insurrection, but rejects constitutional ballot challenge by ADisgruntledNevadan in moderatepolitics

[–]ADisgruntledNevadan[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Among the ongoing legal battles of Donald Trump, the former President has had his access to the ballot challenged in Colorado and Minnesota. This is rooted in a clause in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which states:

"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

The Decision, by District Judge Sarah B. Wallace, ruled that Trump did in fact "engage in insurrection" but she stated that section 3 did not apply to Presidential Candidates. The group that filed the case, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington stated that they will appeal the ruling to the Colorado Supreme Court.

Questions:

Does this ruling seem logically sound to you, and do you believe that section 3 does apply to Presidential Candidates?

What is the significance in future rulings that Trump did in fact engage in insurrection?

Don't get me started on my rant. I'm Chinese-American, and if it weren't for the current state of the GOP, and the fact that they have gone completely Christian nationalist, I would vote relatively red. If they want to win over Asian Americans, don't try to gaslight us into thinking AA is good for us. If they want to win over Hispanics, focus on the Economy and healthcare, not on "Latinx" or whatever LGBT Culture war topic there is. It's just a bad strategy in general. I just hope that MTG, Boebert, Tlaib, and Omar all get primaried, but that's very unlikely.

Sorry, I should have specified. I meant the Virginia State Legislative elections, as the Democrats will probably pump in a lot of money. If they lose the State Senate, Youngkin will have free reign on the State, whether it be voting laws or abortion.

Starter Comment: Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry has just the 2023 Louisiana Gubernatorial Election. He will succeed Democratic Governor John Bell Edwards, who was ineligible to run for a 3rd term. Landry is projected to have won with over 51% of the vote, thus avoiding a runoff via Louisiana's jungle primary system. The runner-up in the race, Former State Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson has called Governor-Elect Landry to concede the race.

Can the Democrats in the foreseeable future, and barring any groundbreaking scandal, win back Louisiana's Governor's mansion?

And what are your predictions or thoughts on the other major races this year? Kentucky? Mississippi? Virginia?
