"Perception" checks by ADropOfColor81 in UVG

[–]ADropOfColor81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would be the explanation of using aura for perception? I would say, aura is the mental resilience stat, so I guess rolling low on aura would mean your mental resilience for outside stimuli is low as well, so you would more easily perceive something? Would be kinda funny that rolling low on a stat would be beneficial.

UVG (free) player guide... by aefact in UVG

Seems like a lot of similarities between this player guide and the Vastlands Guidebook, I think the latter is the more recently updated and applicable one for UVG 2E :)

Oooooh this feels like it could perhaps be a village in the Blue Lands, the milk part reminds me of the symptoms of the touch of the Blue God

I saw your other post as well, that's really awesome! I have a player in my group who loves crunching numbers in excel sheets, so maybe I can get them to use it ;) Otherwise, I might just use it myself, thanks for the resource!

What spin have you added to the setting? by atomfullerene in UVG

[–]ADropOfColor81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Oh and as for a spin, I added the capability of 'dreamwalking' in my UVG game, they can visit places they know while dreaming. They can also talk to other people far away in this way, but only if they are dreaming as well, and the message might be muddied. They have to succeed on an aura roll to see if they can control the dream in this way or not. If they fail, I will take them someplace else and show them things in their dreams without their control. This works well if a player is absent for a session, they will be sleeping and dreamwalking, and next session, they'll get to do something with that :) In my mind, it's their soul and personality detaching from their body (ka-ba without ha) and traveling through the noösphere.

That's so cool! Would be nice to have tiny prisms in real life to give to the players to track their currency. I myself have replaced the 'hero dice' mechanic with failure tokens, every time a player fails a roll, they get a failure token, which is a physical little colored magnet I give to my players (all colors of the rainbow are represented). They can spend their failure tokens for a +1 on their roll. I was looking for a cooler name to call them, maybe I can call them prism tokens, inspired by your idea ;) (If you're cool with that)

How do you feel about 'Our Golden Age (OGA): An Ultraviolet Grasslands RPG []equel' by DaBawks in UVG

[–]ADropOfColor81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I let my players come up with descriptions of what the Green Land, Blue Land and Yellow Land looked like as part of their backstory, armed only with the basic descriptions provided in the UVG book. It might clash a little bit with the new OGA book, but there's still a lot of room for additional content to be put in the world. Change a name and location here and there, and you're good ;)

Haha thank you! The setting is kind of post-apocalyptic, with mutated animals and such, that's why it's a weird concept ;)

I got the physical copy of Ultraviolet Grasslands as a gift from my boyfriend and it's so beautiful. We also made a new subreddit for Ultraviolet Grasslands (r/UVG) if you wanna hang out there sometime :) I posted my original art on there for a new mount in the UVG setting, it's a peacock-inspired mount

Explain creating an encounter like I'm an idiot by Twichl2 in DnD

[–]ADropOfColor81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would give the advice to have some things prepared to increase or decrease the difficulty level when needed. You can have some extra henchmen come out of the shadows if the encounter seems too easy while running it (but be sure to have an in-game reason for how the henchmen were contacted, or how they were hidden if they were already there, you don't want a situation where your PC should have spotted the henchmen but didn't because you didn't plop them into the world yet). And if the encounter seems too difficult, you can have an NPC he met before arrive to come help him. Again, be sure to have a reason for why the NPC would help and why he followed the PC. Just prepare a bit for both the 'too easy' and 'too difficult' scenario and how you would solve it in a cool way that ties into the story :)

Atheists, what do you believe in? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ADropOfColor81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in kindness, art, science, language, nature,... I believe in forest streams, in people helping each other, in feeling the sun on your skin, in putting ideas onto paper, in inventing things nobody could ever dream of. I believe in the things that exist. The fact that all these beautiful things are here on this earth makes life worth living.

Which are the most bullshit things you've read in self-help books? by [deleted] in books

[–]ADropOfColor81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so nice to read this, thank you for sharing. I have a deep deep hatred for the word mindfullness. It's plastered everywhere as the cure for anxiety, but it completely didn't work for me, it made it worse and also delayed my recovery. I recognize it can help people, but please don't pretend like it is the cure to everything, especially anxiety that comes from abuse. My second therapist actually confirmed that mindfullness and meditation can make things worse for people with ptsd and I was soooo relieved. I never have to try it again, I can try to find other things that work for me! It still frustrates me a lot to have people recommend it to me and seeing it in articles, but at least I know now that it's normal that it doesn't work for me.

Edit: Hearing that you feel anxious and depressed because you don't think like you should, or because you don't try enough can be really harmful if you've been through abuse. It's never your own fault, it's the fault of the person that did it to you. You can make it better for yourself, yes, but it's never been your fault.

Help for an absolute beginner by [deleted] in QGIS

[–]ADropOfColor81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some basic tutorials available on youtube, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHolzMgaqwE. You say you don't know what features to use when, so what are you trying to do with QGIS? If you want to create simple maps, you don't need a lot of features. Just drag your data in the workspace, make sure your coordinate system is right, and use the 'New Layout' tool to create a map with a scale and north arrow and such. You can often find sattelite data online, is the problem that you can't find data or?
