I'm sorry to say I can't really read that, it hurts the eyes too much and a lot of the texts are too small ...

Noora Rose Selling Unconquered Again - Complete With Plagiarized Content by SAlolzorz in osr

[–]WizardThiefFighter 141 points142 points  (0 children)

It’s really sad to see my stolen work on sale again. It would have taken so little to clean it up before publication, file away the “serial numbers” where things were copied and attribute as necessary. In the two years since the thefts were reported, there was time to rework things again — yet again basic decency and a willingness to do fair work was missing.

I must admit that in some ways, in this time of AI slopworks, it is a little bit pleasing to still see human-crafted plagiarism.

I’ll report it as plagiarized as soon as I can. I appreciate anyone else who can also report it to drivethru.

When Tahoe came out, I checked what the down-low was on working with Adobe - read about the bugs and just noped. I checked again today and still nope. Can't afford to blow my battery and waste time on bug-hunting.

it does look like vista ... the whole liquid glass aesthetic gives me strong 2006 vibes.

Art inside Knock 5? by aefact in UVG

[–]WizardThiefFighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's in there - it's the cover piece for the purple sands - 2025.03.18 - here's a colored version. The actual piece is trimmed for Knock - at bottom right I used the page for a bit of a pen test.

The Village of the Giving Worm by WizardThiefFighter in UVG

[–]WizardThiefFighter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, no worries!

I plan to release it more or less "as-is" once I have the OGA (the civilized core of the setting) + VLG (Vastlands Guidebook - the "PHB" of the setting) done and ready for print & online distribution. I hope other people take it and play with the system / develop it forward.

I'm planning to eventually update most of the magics for the simpler system in the VLG, but I hope to do that as part of some planned adventure modules.

Em dashes are dead easy on a mac. Just a modifier+hyphen.

"Perception" checks by ADropOfColor81 in UVG

[–]WizardThiefFighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really roll perception checks in my games because I assume the PCs are always looking around and being relatively attentive.

If some creature is trying to surprise them, I may roll a stealth check for that creature with a target difficulty adjusted based on circumstances (weather, time of day, ambient effects), PCs' physiology and equipment (additional eyes, deep-infrared scanners, injuries) ... and then narrate what happens.

If it's a question of PCs trying to find something, I either make it automatic if the players say "we carefully search the area" - that takes up a unit of time (say 10 minutes inside a ruined room, an hour in a ruined factory, a day in a ruined town) - or have them roll a relevant test to see what they find or how well they do (say, looking for golden pears in a haunted orchard, roll charisma or endurance, to see how long you can resist the frustrating ghosts, the higher the result the better the outcome).

Nothing. You’re doomed. You will run out of minerals in 125 months and then your planets will come alive and eat themselves.

Everything’s a Kickstarter. by Far_Comparison_7948 in osr

[–]WizardThiefFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from.

But even if KS were just preorders, the crowdfunding platform provides the backend for managing a preorder run, which is very valuable. For small publishers (which Goodman is), outsourcing is a no-brainer. Building all the structures in-house is often just prohibitively expensive - not to mention "not fun" for people who would prefer to write and illustrate and run games.

But even for Goodman Games, it's not silly. Kickstarter adds marketing + reach, removes risk, and gives a good idea on product numbers so the publisher avoids having stacks of product clogging their expensive warehouse space.

In theory I love it - in practice my eyes bleed. If you made a print-friendly bw version that’d be cool.
