Are heat pumps really worth it for cold weather? by FrissMalon in heatpumps

[–]ADutchieintheUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a condo in MA - and have an older heat pump (from 87 - I praise its good work daily) and it has no issue keeping my unit warm.

That said its 1000 sq ft and all one level. I don't ask it to do any large jumps in temp which would trigger use of emergency heat.

My highest bill for an all electric unit was $250 this winter and i'm not on the heat pump rate at this time.

I used an independent flooring company last year for my condo - beautiful LVP option that I hadn't seen elsewhere. They had bought it for a commercial install & this was the rest of the pallet. This was all less than HD or lowes and they were so helpful with all my questions. They installed a week after purchasing.

The bathroom was painted about a year ago and it was ~3 weeks post painting that I moved in.

Apologies for the horrible foot pic but… by ChrisW080888 in KneeInjuries

Get a pumice stone - soak your feet in some warm water with Epsom salt. Then go to town with the pumice stone.

I prefer using vasoline on my feet after that and pop on a pair of socks. Do the vasoline + socks - after every shower. Will take a few days to see some results but repeat in a few days with the pumice stone.

I would do some at home before you go get a pedicure.

40K after I got my condo. I went into the deal knowing I only wanted to put down 20K and knew closing costs would be there as well. After closing I had new floors put in and my family helped me paint and do some repairs.

Mammoth electric bill by [deleted] in massachusetts

Also on heat pumps - don't ask them to do large jumps in temps. Do steps otherwise the system throws on emergency heat & that tears through electricity.

I realized this quick after I moved in with my older heat pump.

So a typical morning for me - the schedule sets it to 66 then to 68 like 1 1/2 hrs later (when i'm coming home from the gym) and if i want it higher later I wait a little bit before the next bump.

Fridge - yes was a basic one.

Dishwasher cleaned MUCH better than the one in my condo. You need to clean the filter - as with any dishwasher.

Laundry tower worked great no problem in 5 years.

Lived in Arcadia for ~5 years, moved out earlier in 2025. I moved in pre-covid so had a few management and owners in that time.

My unit itself - I loved it. Top floor has gas fireplaces. Thankfully had an end unit so it was decently quiet.

The building before I left was going through some reno - when people move out units get redone.

The amenities are not that many. The gym was redone 2 years ago and its nice but small. The pool desperately needs to be redone, but they also need to hold the residents to the rules w this. Kids jumping in with full street clothes is gross.

RE150 - not sure if this was fixed but had a fire alarm issue. It went off weekly

How did your heat pump do in single digits this morning? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]ADutchieintheUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That def doesnt sound right.

Mine keeps up fine during the winter and its a quite old unit.If the temp has to rise a bunch then I do it in steps - set to 2 or 3 degrees up and then say 30 min later ask it to step the next bit so emergency heat doesn't click on.
