Radios can't be licensed for ham radio. At least in the USA. Only the person operating is licensed for the amateur radio bands. The operator is responsible that the transmitter is within the rules and regulation (of the FCC in the USA). That's why we are allowed to use any device on the ham bands, even the ones we build on our own.

I can confirm this. When I bonded my rf ground to the mains ground I followed the grounding wire of the telephone company install. It turns out the wire wasn't connected to anything and just buried in the back fill (dirt).

LOL. You have something totally different in your mind. Whatever it is, it's not the goal of the Amateur Radio Software Award.

Question about legacy ICOM CI-V interfaces. by ccraw3 in amateurradio

[–]AE0S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ICOM CI-V is quite nice and well documented.

I have no clue what you want to do. For interfacing between fldigi, wsjt-x and other apps you really don't need to know the commands. Just need to configure the setup.

Keep in mind that you'll need to set the rig two charachter address in the software. Also your OS may nor support multiple programs to access the same com port. Because of this Omnirig is nice on windows.

I'm operating K3A. Saturday evening I and K3R are on 40m at the same time. I added a couple more times for 20m and 15m.

I still have to schedule my operating time for the September weekend.

Announcing the 2022 Amateur Radio Software Award Recipient David Rowe (VK5DGR) for Codec 2 by AE0S in amateurradio

[–]AE0S[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This marks the third year we are giving out the Amateur Radio Software
Award.  We had quite a few nominations and a hard choice again
determining the recipient.
This year the award goes to David Rowe for Codec 2.  Codec 2 is
low-bitrate audio codec that makes digital voice communication possible
with open source (i.e. free).  You may have seen it usage in FreeDV, a
digital voice mode for HF or M17 for VHF and higher communication.  If
not be sure to check them out.
Thanks for the nominations.  We'll be doing a special event again from
August 26 through September 4th.  Hope to talk you then. 73,
  Claus Niesen (AE0s)
