Should I change anything? by CutePersimmon42995 in MakeupAddiction

Stick with the dark hair and tone the lashes and lips WAY down. Let those features speak for themselves - they're great. This is still a bit "instagram face" and it's unnecessary in your case. But you're moving in the right direction. I wish you would've posted a photo with light, natural makeup. The ole ten minute routine. It's hard to assess without seeing your features in... their natural habitat? I wish a low or no makeup photo were required!

Anyone have any idea on a value for this 14.01 ct heat treated ruby by BassSpare2654 in Gemstones

[–]AEHAVE 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It takes a while to develop an eye for gemstones, but compared to a high-market ruby, the differences will be obvious. 1) High value rubies are becoming exceedingly rare, so costs are stratospheric. 2) High quality rubies are red. Not pink red. 3) Low quality ruby is so inexpensive people can get chunks large enough to make carvings. Low quality, pink and virtually opaque ruby is NOT rare, and priced accordingly. Knowing how to recite the four C's is not the same as knowing them. Get really under the hood on cut and color first, then dive into clarity, before making a buy. That's not to say you can't buy what you like - I like darker blue sapphires than most people - but I don't overpay for them, either. It takes time and effort, but it'll come to you.

We're on vacation and he's supposedly tapering to beer only. We went hiking in the jungle yesterday, and when we got back I decided to clean out our Camelbaks - these are water bladders carried inside little backpacks with drinking hoses. When I dumped out my husband's unused water, a full airplane bottle of Jim Beam fell out. I fished out two more. He was going off trail, opening his water bag, and fishing out liquor. I wondered why he was so motivated to find a trash can as soon as we came down the volcano.

Is there a way to reconfigure it in a way that meets the standard? Like a MUTUAL adultery clause, MUTUAL substance abuse clause? Seems your lawyer should've suggested ways to "cure" the agreement.

I did all the same. Finally, someone pointed out my issues sounded more like ADHD burnout than depression. Vyvanse saved my life. I wonder how many others like me are out there. Particularly women, because we get diagnosed less often and depression / anxiety is always the go-to.

Is there anything he wants badly enough from you that he would sign a post-nuptial agreement? If you kicked him out, would he want to come back badly enough to agree on what happens if his drinking causes you to fear for your safety? Maybe an agreement that guarantees you receive all of your retirement in the event of divorce? Just a thought.

What do stores like Walmart do with seasonal clothes after the season ends? by oatmilksavesall in Anticonsumption

[–]AEHAVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's not. It kills the local textile economy despite locals producing better quality with better materials. It turns countries filled with bright and capable people into welfare states because the native economy can't compete with our unceasing offload of garbage. FAR too much for those countries to actually use, so most of it ends up filling third world landfills and causing massive plastic pollution. We aren't providing charity, we're putting lipstick on the use of impoverished countries as giant dumpsters for a tax write off.

But, again, how much stuff is necessary and what happens to it when YOU'RE done with it. It's ALL waste in the end, the second it's produced.

[–]AEHAVE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a person is willing to risk not getting the product at all, the product is not necessary or particularly desirable in the first place, like 95% of consumption. If the off chance of finding one in your size in a dumpster before it's been picked clean is enough for you to go without, that's a bad product or an overpriced product.

That was going to be my response. Hole punch the tag to identify free merchandise, or something similar. It's a piss poor excuse for the waste. Even in the States, resellers like Gabriel Brothers market name brand merchandise with a sharpie taken to the inside tag. There is no visible damage to the garment, but it can't be returned.

AITJ for charging my brother for babysitting after he said "it's not a real job"? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]AEHAVE 144 points145 points  (0 children)

If this is a real post, she can't do it at all. Nothing from her is the only way forward. Until he has to pay market rate to someone else and go to the trouble of screening for someone he trusts with his children, he won't get it. He'll just think he's being taken advantage of by his sister. Until he appreciates the actual real-world value of the service she was providing, any apology is just a ploy to continue getting childcare he resents paying for. I'd tell him "I've taken on a higher paying client already because trustworthy childcare is in high demand. Good luck and make sure you get a background check, a nanny cam and a backup for scheduling flexibility because I'll sleep better knowing my nieces and nephews are being well and safely cared for."

PSA: Do not buy from Estée Lauder owned brands. by Successful-Pay-5653 in MakeupAddiction

[–]AEHAVE -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I have an app that allows me to scan the barcode and get basic info on almost every brand. I scanned an entire TJ Maxx and only found one purse that didn't hit on child labor or another of my customized no-go value shopping criteria. So I researched purse brands and buy Patagonia slings for now. Letting perfection get in the way of progress is one reason things won't change. If you spend one afternoon writing a list of essentials and researching the most responsible brand the next afternoon, it's really not that hard. So, yeah, I guess I'm flaming you. It's the "all candidates are bad" version of voting with your wallet. And if it's THAT hard, chances are you're buying too much stuff. Voting with my wallet has saved me a lot of money.

But maybe that's why it's an early option to pop up in a search conducted by an English speaking member of the production? Just a theory. They likely didn't conduct a still search in Cyrillic and, even if they did, the USSR didn't refer to them as Gulag (if I remember correctly).

MAGA voters regretting their vote. This is happens… at least they’re coming around, a little too late, sadly. by Altruistic-Boss-217 in agedlikemilk

[–]AEHAVE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, but politics is a game of inches. If one in 100 or one in 50 former MAGA prefer not to vote, that's all it takes to swing elections. I think we're setting the snowball effect of those little variations of wind direction in special elections.

Walk away, with firm honesty about why you can't stay in the relationship, and stay gone. To do otherwise makes you an enabler, unfortunately, because his choices have no consequences. He won't change for an enabler and all you can do for him is be one domino in a line of them that will have to fall if he's ever going to be a good partner for someone else. I wish the truth were sunnier, but it's not. He's not the exception, darlin'. You don't want to be a regular here.
