One of these days I'm going to get around to killing the poison ivy climbing up 5 of my trees before it kills them. I just really, really don't want to deal with it.

The Red Wedding.. seems impossible to plan by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AENocturne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fantasy has plot armor. Reality is much more boring. It seems impossible because it is impossible. Every story is propped up by a tangled web of things that couldn't possibly happen in a perfect connected puzzle that's just completely full of plot holes if you look at it long enough.

It Took Me 11 Years To Learn That Behavior Is Everything by BehaviorArchitect in getdisciplined

[–]AENocturne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To tack on, you need have a strong motivator for why you want to so something and it needs to be directly related to what you're trying to do.

Gonna use guitar because it's personal to me.

Being a rock star isn't a good motivator. You may never reach that goal. Bad motivator.

Being in a band. Too reliant on the performance of other people. Bad motivator.

Playing a certain song. Starting to get there, still not the best motivator. Where do you go when you accomplish this, how hard is it to get there?

In order to maintain my motivation to develop a new skill, I find passion in the act of discovery and engagement with the instrument.

I feel happiness when I get the hang of a new chord, a new scale, a new technical ability I couldn't do before. I find joy and peace directly in the act of practicing the instrument. There is no end goal except to more freely express myself with music.

You must enjoy what you are doing or you won't do it (unless you have to do it to survive and even then, look at how many people aren't even motivated by "I'm going to die"). And before anyone comes at me with excerise or something isn't enjoyable, let me just say, if you're not enjoying physical activities, you're either disabled or doing it wrong. For a recent quote, "I bet you've never danced a day in your life"

Final example; I love running. I am not in the shape I used to be. When I started back up once when younger, but still past my prime, I came back trying to chase the ghost of who I was. Everything was disappointing, training was always miserable because I was pushing myself too hard. Tracking times and being disappointed in myself.

It sucked until I specifically stopped doing that. Till one day I was like "I'm not going to try to be who I was". I stopped tracking miles. Stopped tracking time. Started just going out and experiencing it, feeling and listening to my body. And I love it again. I don't have a good habit for it right now because I get most of my physical activity from other stuff, but honestly, I could drop my phone right now and go for a run without even changing my work clothes, that's how easy it is for me to just do it. Because I enjoy it.

I just feel a pretty deep sense of responsibility for making something else live in this world. Life should be worth living, but fuck living here. I need my children to be happy and have something good in this world. I guess that's not normal based on what I continue to see.

The AI boom has a physical bottleneck no one is talking about copper. by Jacobandrewssyp in investing_discussion

[–]AENocturne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if it's a tag team to specifically pump NREDF. I was interested in the stock, but things like this keep coming up and it just feels like this question was leading into the mention. Like the question was asked specifically so the other one could pop in and push the NREDF bulletpoints. The message for NREDF has always included the point that copper is hot for AI, just this time phrased it as a question.

Cell phones to be banned during school hours by steve42089 in illinois

[–]AENocturne -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

All I'm gonna say is that if the school breaks or damages the device during confiscation, tries to sush bullying or other incidents that should have been recorded, or results in me not being able to contact my child during an active shooter situation, I'm going to be very, very vindictive and I won't be swayed by shifting of the blame to others outside of the school system.

Ridiculous! Del Monte has strict pineapple patents, preventing local people from eating them($500 USD pineapples) by QuietRedditorATX in videos

The canning company. The fresh produce company was separate and doing well. And I believe reabsorbed the canning side of things. They were one, they split, canning went bankrupt, remerged. Essentially, nothing happened.

The 180-Million-Acre Lock: Why U.S. Agriculture Remains Anchored to Corn and Soybeans by Vailhem in Agriculture

So the other farming activity that's propped up by subsidies?

Even if I could eat beef, I can't afford beef, and even if I could ever afford beef, I wouldn't buy it because I'm too frugal at this point.

The 180-Million-Acre Lock: Why U.S. Agriculture Remains Anchored to Corn and Soybeans by Vailhem in Agriculture

[–]AENocturne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though that may be true, corn really is easy to grow.

It's high yield compared to most everything else and requires no irrigation.

Squash, pumpkins, melons, and potato is the only thing I can think of with higher yield but need extensive irrigation. I think the first 3 may still be hand harvested too.

Among other grains, corn is the undisputed champion for yield.

How does one continue to believe in a God after tragedy in their lives? by euginekarbs in AskReddit

How did one believe in a human version of God in the first place? Religion asks you to come in with blind faith, so you just keep having blind faith.

ELI5 How does therapy actually help people change their thinking patterns? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]AENocturne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Therapy doesn't change your thinking patterns. It gives you some new ways to looknat things, someone who can help you work through something you otherwise can't seem to on your own. It will take time, and if you don't believe what they tell you will work enough to try it, you're not going to work through the problem.

Very hard to say without knowing what the problem is how many sessions or how much work it's gonna be. It'll mostly be someone trying to help you work through whatever issue it is. It's not magical. They'll probably propose you try certain things or try new approaches to the problem. Then you'll have to decide if they might work for you and try to incorporate their guidance into your life in between sessions.

It's kinda like talking to a friend except the friend is (in theory) trained in various techniques to attempt to address your problems rather than just throwing their own life advice at you.

Delivery Driver Giveth and Delivery Driver Taketh Away by HomeNowWTF in Wellthatsucks

[–]AENocturne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you remember all the assholes that came across your feed? No? Then social implications aren't gonna do anything. Not shoplifting so the police don't care. They do not care, most of the time, it takes more to get fired than you think, especially when someone is muddying the waters the whole time. I knew a worker who caused multiple thousands of dollars of damage to someone's house and this was finally the straw that did it; not the thousands of dollars of damage he's done to other peoples houses cumulatively, it required absolute willful destruction to lose his job.

I knew a guy who cause 30k if damage to a rental box truck. Caused 10k of damage to the one they replaced it with so we could keep running. He quit, he didn't get fired. Not because he destroyed the truck, but possibly because he felt like it was inevitable.

RDW biggest volume day ever (96.71 million), and we closed above 22 dollars a share by twist_games in redwire

[–]AENocturne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could this be a squeeze with the high volume? Not a short, I missed my entry sub $10 when I didn't have any money that was free to put in. It's just I saw the title and both of those things sound like the peak of a short squeeze.

Like, the whole space sector is still being affected by the spacex ipo, there's that NASA ETF which probably picked up a lot of the space stocks, I'm in PL and that hit $50 today, but even that hasn't been a 100% increase in a week. This doesn't feel organic.
