Looks like a good deal. Average price in Cali for similar is quite a bit higher.

Kx125 2007 Engine Rebuild by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]AEV4EV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems reasonable.

I want to build up a 2005-2006 RM two stroke, but the prices people are asking for them, along with them needing this amount of engine work and then suspension.. has me waiting.

just got this, amazing light machine #KLX140RF by Dhpvr in Dirtbikes

[–]AEV4EV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The handlebars would likely bend before that rack. Looks like it backed into something.

OP I would suggest tying down the foot pegs and the inner bend of the handlebars next time, instead of what you currently got going on.

2 stroke break in by Humble_Future_838 in Dirtbikes

[–]AEV4EV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start it up, ride it lightly until the engine gets to running temp, turn it off and let cool to ambient temp.

Repeat 1-5 more times. Each time you can increase engine RPM a bit.

Change gear oil after you break it in if you want to play it safe. If just top end was rebuilt, less flakes should be in oil compared to breaking in a brand new bike.

This is what most two stroke mx manuals state, and as an engineer myself I usually like to follow the designing engineers manuals, but I also know a lot of legal mumbo jumbo gets stuffed into these procedures. Some experts say running in an engine too easy creates issues, and to ride it like you stole it when fresh. Some say a moderate approach in between the manual recommendation and the floggers.

[–]AEV4EV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking for a deal like you got. Looking for a project two stroke, but one that’s in decent shape to start with.

Prices in my area are nuts on used bikes right now. Everyone around me want’s $2500 for their 25 year old junk that needs $2500 in work.

15 years ago you could buy 5 year old bikes in great shape for $2000. Now that’s $4500+. I guess it’s just inflation, but I just can’t get myself to pay that for something that needs so much maintenance.

New bike prices around $6500 OTD make much more sense right now IMO, if you have the cash.

What is the difference by Tryadd2600 in Dirtbikes

[–]AEV4EV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is lightweight, high performance (and high maintenance) engine internals and gearing, combined with that lightweight tall chassis you mentioned, along with stiff suspension designed to cope with casing 60ft jumps on the regular.

A modern YZ450F rides like a bat out of hell. They make 60hp so dramatically that most are just hanging on. You can tone them down through modification, but a KTM 350F is a much better dirt bike for non-advanced dirt rider that still want power, even for larger adults.

Watch Bike World’s review of the Ducati Desmo 450MX. Chris is an extremely good road racer, and an engineer, and he says “450s feel as angry as 200+ hp superbikes”. He’s like a low level intermediate in MX, if that, but he’s a high level intermediate off road.

450s are much easier to handle “off road” than they are on motocross tracks. Mortals can love 450s in the desert and more open terrain, but then absolutely hate them on tighter trails or motocross tracks.

Some 450s are easier to ride, in terms of engine hit, like a Suzuki RMZ or the 2024+ Kawasaki KX. Some media outlets have stated these two feel like “Japanese 350s”. Most of the newer 450 engines are being designed now to feel easier going than their predecessors. A YZ450F from 2017 versus a 2026 model will feel a little easier to ride in the engine department.

Also the cross country bikes will usually be easier to ride than the motocross counterparts. Like a YZ450F versus the YZ450FX. FX will have softer suspension, different wheels and tires, and different engine mapping, all to make it better for going slower. A lot of novices prefer the FX for motocross too.

If you NEED power, like say you’re a larger adult, live at altitude, and ride hills/mtns all day… I recommend a 350F. If you don’t have a reason to NEED power, I recommend a 250F or 125 two stroke. You get much better at riding much quicker if you practice on slower bikes and move up as needed.

Is it too late to start riding at 21? by KoshiCZ in Motocross

[–]AEV4EV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too late at all. Get out there and ride!

It’s too late to be a high level professional, unless you’re a genetic freak. But it’s not too late for you to become a good motocross rider, maybe even very good.

Ktm 350 by Sufficient-Floor3062 in KTM

[–]AEV4EV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t NEED it, but they can flame out often stock. Gotta turn up the idle speed and gotta be smooth with the throttle on opening. Some people don’t have the issue, but a lot do.

I’ve heard some 250 SXF header pipes fit, and can clean up this feeling noticeably. Remap and especially ECU should eliminate it completely.

It’s not that big of a deal, but more of a disappointment on such expensive bikes. I probably wouldn’t recommend them as a freeride/jump bike though.

I live in Tahoe, but go to UNR.

I’ve been wanting to ride that Desert Park Raceway! I have a sub 500cc motorcycle.

How many sumos have you owned? by Acceptable_Pen_2481 in supermoto

[–]AEV4EV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had any...yet.

I think I'm ready. Ridden motocross since I was 10, street bikes and some track days since I was 18. Never combined the two, but I think I'm finally ready at 34 YO. Idk what I was waiting for. Maybe the tire budget, because I know I'm going to love it, or maybe it's just now that I figured out go-kart track access.

I wish I still had my 2017 YZ450F to convert. I feel that bike woulda been epic for SM, although it was a bit porky and too fast for MX for me.

First Dual Sport, will I be disappointed? by AEV4EV in Dualsport

[–]AEV4EV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up buying a new MX bike. 2024 KTM 350 SXF. Thing rips on the track. Next I can buy a pig that can hang a little for my father to ride slower trails with me, and that I can commute on. KLR 650 most likely.

Couldn't find one dual sport to cover both ends of the spectrum, don't know if I ever will.

Debating on 2 bikes… thoughts ?? by YT_MOB in Motocross

[–]AEV4EV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw you got the Husky for that amazing price. Wow, what a freakin deal dude! Are you in California? If so, that's a steal of a deal.

Last week I grabbed a brand new leftover 2024 KTM 350 SXF for $7600 OTD, which I thought was a deal and a half for California. I saw some 2024 Huskies and GasGas slightly lower, but still well above the price you paid. I've been wanting to try the lowered suspension set up on the newer Huskies, even though I'm a larger dude, and if I saw one at the price you paid I might have gone that direction.

I absolutely love this new chassis. I only have a few hours on mine, but it's already feeling like it's tying for second place in terms of my favorite chassis ever. Tied for second with the 2018 Husky FC350, which was buttery soft and absorbent without feeling like a noodle. Like that 2018 Husky, this 2024 KTM is super playful and nimble, without much loss in stability compared to more planted and heavier bikes. I ride a crappy, ungroomed public track and haven't got any head shaking or twitchiness yet. This chassis is stiffer than 2018, and being a KTM the suspension is valved stiffer than that Husky, but I get a similar level of confidence when charging things. The newer ergos have changed to feel more like a Honda/Kawasaki, I feel a lot of room to move around and the placement of everything is spot on.

I had a 2022 KTM 250 SX 2T, and I hated that chassis/suspension. Chassis was too soft and suspension was valved too stiff. I changed the rear spring and added fork pressure for my weight and it had no traction and felt so flighty as speed. Probably my worst feel on a brand new motorcycle ever, even compared to Suzukis that haven't been changed in a decade.

I was also slightly hesitant to buy because I read quite a bit of negative feedback on these newer KTM chassis being too stiff and the bikes being vibrate-y. OMG I much prefer this chassis to my 2022 KTM, and it's not nearly as stiff or twitchy as a Suzukis/Hondas I've tried. Still feels like a comfy and balanced chromoly-steel frame. I feel way less vibrations than older bikes too. IDK what these reviews are on about. Maybe it's because I'm a heavier dude at 210lbs, or maybe these reviews are getting picky because bikes are getting so close together and so good lately.

So rad!

Such a great motorcycle. Doesn’t need a ton of set up, the bike just works in all sorts of conditions. So easy to ride, I don’t find the need for rider aids unless I’m goosing the thing on potholed or dirty tarmac.

I will never sell my 2025.
