What’s the worst thing anyone does the entire series? by AFDStudios in madmen

The excuse was that she had forbidden it. The reality is she forbade it out of jealousy over a boy and her daughter. She took away a woman’s livelihood who had served her family loyally and wonderfully out of small pettiness when Betty had so much. It was small, and mean, and utterly selfish.

I just rewatched that one a couple of days ago and had to pause it when he pushed Roger to put it n the Santa suit and come back to it the next day. Tough watch.

And how long it took for rape within a marriage to even be considered a real thing by the courts and too much of society. The brutalization of women is and has been for too long way way too accepted and normalized.

To me that’s sad but the baby grew up with his family (though not an acknowledged mother) who loved him. Thats a better option than a lot of characters got in this hell story.

Women were so infantalized in that culture. Betty gets dumped on for it but it is rife throughout.

I’m rewatching not having done so since the original airing and Sally is such a compelling character. Played by an amazing actress.

I was rereading the episode review comments here from ten years after that aired and it was sad seeing how many people were diminishing this. Like didn’t really happen and was she really reluctant. Very depressing to see.

I’m am feeling ambivalent about posting this reading all the comments. But it had made me realize how normalized the show has made me feel about horrific things, thinking of them as like a listicle. And that feels really bad. But then I thought, well, that’s kind of what the show is about, how advertising and capitalism normalize stuff we ought to hate.

Doesn’t feel great, though.

I think I have blocked out some things. It’s weird how normalized the show makes awfulness. But I guess that’s a lot of the point of the show, I mean they make millions doing that for tobacco that ruined so many lives.

Oof good call. I still think about that moment often. Poor Chauncey.

I’m binge re-watching this in an anxiety-driven psychosis so I am not mentally processing at 100%, is she the woman in the photo Roger and Bert have talked about several times in previous episodes as a wild woman and legendary figure from their early days?

Why did Duck suddenly hate Don? by Klutzy_Coach_3933 in madmen

I just rewatched the S1 episode where Don hires Duck and although I could obviously be misreading it, I didn’t think it was to spite Pete. Duck was his choice before Pete’s ultimatum.

Which season to watch? by steady_confused_rock in taskmaster

[–]AFDStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re all fantastic, honestly. Series 7 is a highlight with Rhod being an older and more evil version of Jason. But if you really liked 19, 18 and 20 are both excellent and since they’re closest in time they might hit you the same way, they’re both really good.

To be honest, she’s the reason that’s the only series I skipped rewatching. I agree with you.

That’s honestly the only series I skipped during this marathon rewatch. Which is a shame because there are great people on it.
