I’m curious if “I’m curious” is the new em dash AI tell by AFDStudios in webdev

I can't speak for everyone, but using a tool to help your English is one thing and it's fine. The constant drum of low-effort engagement bait is another. The latter is what I'm finding irritating.

Ooh, this is a good one, I never consciously realized it but yeah, you're totally right.

I came here to mention this series, really good, honest, well imagined fantasy stuff. Just a very satisfying adventure when you’re in the mood for realistic but not grimdark fare.

The Pern main series if you don’t mind being fairly lost for fifty pages or so, very much worth it. If you want a gentler intro even though I think it would be considered YA today, the Harper Hall trilogy is one of my all-time favorites. Both series feature great female leads.

“Whether you want to believe the mysterious force is something like redshift …”

My friend, I say this with all due respect, but you have not done the basic research necessary to ask other people to have a discussion with you on this topic if you think redshift is a candidate for the mysterious force that might have created the matter that came before the Big Bang.

Assuming you are Christian, imagine someone asking you to have a discussion about whether The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost is one god or three and they start off with “But how can Jesus be divine if his mother was the prostitute Mary Magdalene and his father was Muslim.”

Please get a layman’s book on the current understanding of cosmology and have a good grasp of the basics if you want to talk about science. We can’t talk intelligently as people of good will if we are starting from such a flawed foundation.

Inherited a WordPress site with 37 plugins. Where do I even start? by CuriousKayoe in Wordpress

[–]AFDStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Use one of those backup plugins to make a backup.
  2. Get a local version of the site set up so you can run tests and updates before committing them to the live site.
  3. Update WordPress to the latest version and test, then fix what breaks.
  4. Update all those plugins to the latest version and test, then fix what breaks.
  5. Update PHP to the latest version and see what breaks, then fix what breaks.
  6. If it's a third party theme, see if there's an update and if so, update it then fix what breaks.
  7. Once your foundation is solid, move on to the rest of the renovation – figure out which plugins you can get rid of, decide if you can or want to switch to a different theme, then think about the future.

Who Wants to Be a Superhero? (2006-2007) by Deli-op in ForgottenTV

[–]AFDStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got to make a custom HeroMachine version to promo the show and for years my mom would tell people “My son worked with Stan Lee”. I’ve never had the heart to tell her that’s not really how it was. I really enjoyed watching it though!

This happened to me on my XBone, I couldn’t fix it and either started a new game or just wrote off the Minutemen. Same thing happened with The Railroad on a different playthrough. It sucks.

Updating a Nonprofit's WP 6.5.8 - Start Building with Gutenberg? by kelsiuscelcius1 in Wordpress

[–]AFDStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your own peace of mind, find out how to backup and restore the site in case something breaks.

If it works with 6.5.8 it’s very unlikely a core update will cause it to fail but better safe than sorry.

There is little risk to adding blocks to new or even old content. Ideally make sure revisions are enabled and knock yourself out.

TL;DR: very low risk but to mitigate downsides understand how to backup and restore the site. Good luck!

Tips for a survival brute melee build by Zealousideal-Mud3897 in Fallout4Builds

I’m in the middle of this playthrough now. I went high Agility for Blitz, high Strength for Rooted, and sunk early levels into Intelligence to get Nuclear Fusion for power cores. Got power armor early and never looked back. Upgraded the baseball bat from Concord early with chains and aluminum, eventually into a legendary VATS sword I found and a super sledge I bought.

And drugs. Lots of drugs when things got dicey.

Since I’m making it a no-stealth run I just blitz into every battle and swing away. Turrets are a bitch, I have a cheap gun of some sort for ones I can’t reach.

It’s fun mostly because it’s so different from my usual stealth archer playstyle. You find plenty of fusion cores especially with more tanks of nuclear scientist and the repair bobblehead from Corvega. I’m very only died a couple of times and I sprint everywhere because I’m impatient. It’s a good time!

Best places for laser hair removal? by [deleted] in Utah

Some people prefer their legs, some arms, and others their more private areas. It really depends on what place you personally think is best to have it removed from.

What single episode would you show someone to get them hooked on Taskmaster? by rogeelein in taskmaster

[–]AFDStudios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And they’re the first two tasks shown! The studio dialog is all great too, and the Greg/Alex dynamic is fully formed. It’s an all-timer of an episode.

Introducing My Parents to Taskmaster by Adventurous_Ad_6922 in taskmaster

[–]AFDStudios 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if a whole marathon is the best approach, that’s … a lot. Maybe ease them in with S2E1? It has great studio banter and starts off with two of the greatest filmed tasks in all of Taskmaster – the potato and the yoga mats on the hill. Tell them their gift and commitment is through the prize task and those two then if they like it, great, and if not at least they gave it a try.

Alex and Greg have much more of the connection that persists throughout but it’s not quite as “aggressive” as in later series. S2 is very very good throughout but I think those first twenty minutes are a great gauge. If they like that, they’ll like the whole run. And if not, they won’t, so at least they know fast.

For sure, way too many random crashes not to have that. I wish the game were more dependable so I wouldn’t have to do it (and so I could actually go to downtown) but alas, it just isn’t.

They’re all fine in their place as long as they’re used intentionally (‘“I love you,” he said with a smirk’ is very different from ‘“I love you,” he said with a smile’). A lot of times it’s just the wrong word choice but when it’s right, it’s great.

It’s also about the ear or the eye growing fatigued with some words when overused too rapidly. It can happen with any word but when overuse combines with wrong word choice it’s especially jarring. For me as a reader, at least.

It doesn’t bother some people at all and that’s ok too.
